The Next Store to go under is..... BORDERS?!?!?!?

That blows, Borders is my favorite place to study and drink hot chocolate. Hope it finds a way to survive....although liquidated porno mags....jk :)

That will be the first to go at 10% off.

Man, good thing I just used up my gift cards from Christmas. Borders is closer than our Barnes and Nobles, but I enjoy perusing both.

Borders can ship titles back to the publishers for credit. I doubt you'll see much of a discount.

This is also a BIG if, although, it doesn't surprise me in the least.

They seem so overpriced on everything, plus with Amazon I see no reason to ever go in there except for when they have $1.00 clearances.

When they do 40% off discount sales, that's when I pick up a few soundtracks...heck I picked up that new bond 2 disc collection (the one with the title music, which was updated to include the missing, You know my name from CR) for 14 bucks...the same price I would have paid for the single disc!! but yea, I am hitting the graphic novel section when the time comes. I know all the asian anime nerds in my area will clean that shit out in 2 weeks.

Yeah, I've been following the woes of Borders for a while, hoping that this would not come to pass. Borders is far superior to any other book store, what with their great coupons, so I'll be *very* upset if they go under.

One step closer...

Wow. That's pretty big. Considering our mall within the last two or three years cleared out a few tenant spaces to bring Borders in, I can't imagine what would happen if Borders does close down.

I will be keeping a very close eye on this.

Borders is leagues better then Barnes and Noble in every way. They have a much wider selection, the stores are better organized, and they at least have occasional coupons and discounts. Barnes and Noble's selection is terrible, you will never find obscure or hard to find titles on their shelves like you will with Border's, and their organization is crappy and random. B&N also never seems to have anything on sale at all, and until just recently didn't even offer discounts on new titles.

I never understood what the point is in buying a book when you can borrow them for free from a library.

But bomber what if my library doesn't have the book I want? Well, most libraries offer some kind of bookshare program they do with other libraries, so you should be able to get your book that way.

Ok, so what if it really isn't a book you can find in a library? I just buy it on amazon. The price is always cheaper unless you're going to half-priced books.

That sucks. My girlfriend really likes the Paperchase stuff they sell. If they go under, I'll actually have to think when it comes to buying her presents.

Why is this a surprise? Overpriced by every meaning of the word. Clear out the borders and make way for half-price books. If you haven't been to a half-price books then you should be praying for Borders and Barnes to fail just for the hope of experiencing it :applause:.

I hope that they do stay afloat, I get almost all my manga there, and they have nice rewards. They've always been my favorite bookstore

Who buys DVDs from Borders?

It makes sense to stop selling DVDs/CDs, they need to focus on selling books which they are good at. Like others have said, Borders beats B&N in every possible way, B&N is the Gamestop of books.

nobody, hopefully.

honestly, they suck at books too. a lot of B+M stores are becoming my "when I get a giftcard/when I make an impulse buy" fallbacks, since I can get stuff shipped online for cheaper. It's like B+M stores aren't even trying to compete with online prices.
How does it compare to Books-A-Million?
Having been to a B&N, Borders, and B-A-M, I would say Borders is probably the best of 3. But in reality they all suck, I never shop at any of them unless I need a book immediately to read (for a trip or otherwise). Otherwise, online prices are cheaper and then if you just want to read it, there's always the library (if it has the selection) which is free.

Where are prices cheaper? I've noticed they can be cheaper online when you are buying several books at once. But Borders is good for buying one or two books since the price tends to be comparable, even cheaper if you take advantage of the weekly 30% coupons they send you.

Actually I've bought some over the years. They have or *had* i'll say, alot of cheap out of print movies I was looking for.

like all the godzilla dvd's, and some other obscure titles i could find nowhere else

I like how some people on that other site cheers for another store failure.

Yay, lets all be unemployed and shop at walmart.

I like Borders and don't wish for it to go under but, honestly, all I ever really do there is browse. And buy the very occasional clearance book for >$6.

Honestly who didn't see this coming. With the economy the way it is, people are shopping other places rather than at overpriced book stores. I imagine that another one will eventually go leaving 1-2 different "book stores" because, seriously, that's all we really need.

I shop at borders for books so I couldn't care less if the dvd and cds are overpriced. I wouldn't be thrilled if they went out, the constant coupons and nice selection made it a hell of a lot better then barnes and noble. But i'm not too shocked about this, they have been in trouble for awhile.

I don't think I had brought a book from Borders in years. Because the Borders I go to is next to a mall, two high schools, a state university, and multiple elementary and middle schools, the quality of the books are disappointing. Lots of time people just jam books in between others and the cover will be damaged or torn. Their coupons though, bring me into the store occasionally.

I do go to Borders now to shop for boardgames. With their percent off coupons, Borders' prices are comparable to some websites'.

fucking hell. Their manga sections are way better than B&N and Waldenbooks by a long shot. Seriously hope they just ditch the CDs and DVDs, cause that's what's killing them; big sections for terribly overpriced disc media.

The few Waldens left have pretty crappy selections, period.

Between B&N and Border's, I much prefer Border's but my book shopping experience has never been the same since B&N swallowed up all the Bookstars in my area. I used to love Bookstar and would spend hours in there. Other than the small Waldens in the mall, my only option (if Border's goes under) would be B&N. :whistle2:|
