The Office - Season 3 - Discussion [possible spoilers]

If you guys are wondering what happens to Andy, make sure to check out the "Exclusive Producer's Cut" on the NBC site. It has a lot of extra footage, so definitely worth the view.

I actually found last night's episode pretty funny, with the missing of Dwight and the Mexican party. I love how Kevin is barely in this episode, but he always makes use of his on-screen time (I was laughing just seeing him wearing a sombrero in the background while Andy freaked out).

So was there any point for Jim to give Pam Andy's cellphone? I guess just to affirm they're partners-in-crime?

I had a feeling Andy was gonna blow up again sooner or later. Ever since the jello incident at the other branch when Jim first arrived, i knew it would happen again.

Ed Helms (Andy) was made a series regular today. No word on Karen but if I were betting I'd say she's gone as soon as Jim breaks up with her over Pam.

Not the best of their episodes but "shut up Angela" and "this is wrong" were laugh worthy as was the part were Angela spit the champagne back into the glass after she realized it was champagne.

I was laughing my ass off when Dwight was like "I don't care what Jim says...That is NOT the real Benjamin Franklin."

"You're the sexiest president ever.."

and the steaks on the foreman grill were classic.

too bad I missed the rest of the ep (stupid important call I had to take.

Question for you long-time Office viewers:

I just finished watching the entire UK Office series and it was fucking brilliant. I've heard a lot of good things about the US version and have been meaning to get into it for a while. However, I also remember hearing that Season 1 of the US version was a bit disappointing. Any truth to this? I want to watch the series from beginning to end; but if I don't like season 1, I want to at least have some assurance that the ensuing seasons are better before I watch them all.

Any help/input would be appreciated.

"Who wants a piece of my man meat?"

"Its going to a be an hour long shower with guys. Wait, no."

Not the funniest episode but it had some good quotes.

Season 2 is awesome.

Season 3 is awesome.

I've heard the US and Brit versions carve out different segments and thus aren't meant to be directly compared 100%.

I'd watch through part of Season 2. If you didn't like it by then, give it up. However, do not miss out on "Conflict Resolution" and the "Drug" episodes on S2. They are incredible.

So far as I know, some people found a couple of episodes disappointing because they drew heavily from the British version... like the pilot for example, very similar, only Americanized (very well). However, the first season (which is only 6 episodes) is utterly fantastic in my opinion. It is the standard which i've judged seasons 2 and 3 by... season one still makes me feel SO AWKWARD.

But so far as I'm concerned, as great as season 1 is, the show does just keep getting better and better.

Any help/input would be appreciated.[/quote] Season 1 has a few good episodes(basketball, the alliance), but it may be a good idea to start at the far superior season 2 and then work you way back to season 1. Since you've seen the British version you'll know who the characters are and wont have any problems understanding what's going on.
If you watch from the beginning remember that the first episode is a rip off of the first episode of the British series and isn't all that great. It then takes the US version a little while to find its own voice, but you do see some good episodes during season 1, and the show really starts to shine during season 2.

The entire series is amazing.

it's like a cover band: it's still good music and can sometimes be better... or sound totally different and still be good... same goes for this show... kick ass.

Excellent way of putting it!

Overall, tonights show was pretty good. IMO season 3 has been the weakess so far, yet I still love it!

I thought tonight's episode was phenomenal. It reminded me of the season 2 episodes where there were so many funny things that I can't even pick out favorites.

That was an AWESOME episode. We got some Pam-Jim-Karen drama, and lots of great stuff with Michael. I loved that Pam said she knew how to read Jim's feelings just by looking at his neck - it's a touching statement about just how much she cares for him, and I hope that this is the season where she finally confesses her true feelings to him.

"Leave me alone and get the male stripper."
"Michael referred me to a male strip club called Banana Sling... but instead, I went with the Scholastic Speakers of America."
Michael to Ben Franklin - "You wearin' a thong? WHAT!?"
"Is this the same grill you grilled your foot on? No... yes... GROSS!"
Michael: Who wants some man meat?
Dwight: I WANT SOME MAN MEAT!
Michael: Then it is my man meat you shall have!
"You smell like Tide detergent!"
"This is wrong, I HAVE A GIRLFRIEND! And you're you're engaged... and you probably have a boyfriend in prison."
"I'm feeling some electricity here. Didn't Ben Franklin have syphllis? Yes, but I don't."
"Ben Franklin, you're really kind of a sleazebag."
"I don't care what Jim says, that is NOT the real Ben Franklin. I am 99.9% sure!"
"So you know who turned out to be kind of a creep? Ben Franklin. Elizabeth the stripper gave me some great advice."

Please tell me you have a tivo and your memory isnt that good.

I think that was the best episode this season. So many funny moments. I loved when Michael told Jan about the stripper...

"So you don't want to break up with me?"
"I'm closer to firing you."
"You are so sweet."

Oh, Michael Scott, how I love thee.

My fave part was when Jim got a text from Michael asking if the stripper was hot. My manager from CCity did that shit all the time when I was with customers asking "does he like the deal?" or "Are they getting installs?" and they'd be like 10 feet away looking at me and waiting for me to answer the text. So fucking obvious that most customers would ask "so what did you manager say?" Ahh incompotent leadership at its finest.

Other thoughts on the episode..
Ryan - Stay that way and don't take shit from Kelly. Him and Jim being the two "regular" guys, he needs that attitude to separate their personalities more. They've been building that all season and it really shined here.
Pam - leave Jim alone and don't meddle. I just thought she was really annoying the whole episode and usually I love Pam. When she asked Jim what was wrong and kept talking....ughhh... Later I was kind of lost on what she asked Ryan about his business school friends. But it made me think of how great it would be if she somehow ended up dating Ryan. Piss off Kelly for a whole new dynamic!
Roy - stop crying you bitch! I couldn't laugh at the art is sexy thing, it kinda just made me mad.
Karen - I know she was suposed to look tired, but it almost came off as Jim hit her with the phone the previous night. the make up job was a bit much. Was it just me or did she look like she gained a little weight? Maybe just her outfit. I'm really liking her for being a character who's upfront without a hidden agenda. When her and Jim were giving each other the looks and she got up and hugged him, that was my feel good moment for this episode.
Michael - felt him channeling some 40 year old virgin in there, good stuff.
Dwight - savior of all episodes
Phyllis - I'm sorry wasn't this episode centered around a party honoring her wedding? So besides Bob Vance appearing, where was she?
Toby, Oscar, and Andy - where are you guys?

All in all, still my favorite comedy since we lost Arrested Dev. What the fucks with all the constant parties recently? Wasn't it like Christmas then Jamaican party then Oscar/Dwight party all consecutive episodes?

Season 1 is fantastic with the exception of "Pilot" and "Hot Girl" - but those have their moments. I still think "Basketball" and "Health Care" are in the top 5 funniest episodes to date. I highly recommend Season 1.

I tried watching the British Office again a few weeks ago and while it's brilliant I don't think there are as many jokes packed in to those episodes (plus I think "Extras" is even funnier so maybe that's taking a bit away from it).

Wow, that episode just seemed out of control. Jokes were flying really fast, but I guess that's to be expected when strippers are involved.

I laughed long and hard (that's what she said) at several lines, but I thought the moment in the sex shop when virtually everything in the entire shot, save for Michael and Ryan, was pixellated was hilarious.

I know some of you were pissed off at Roy in this episode, but I have to say, I've been there. If you've ever been dumped...hard...or if you're just feeling really vulnerable, there is a tendency to distance yourself from the typical male machismo, both for yourself and in hopes of somehow demonstrating to everyone that you're so much deeper than that (even if there's only one woman in the room and she's been paid to be there).

As part of my bachelor party we went to a couple of strip clubs, and at the last place I had this one girl who pretty much sat naked (strippers in Atlanta can, by law, go bottomless) in my lap for what seemed like two hours (I was really, really drunk at this point, so concepts of time may be off). But she was there a long time, most of the time we were there. I'm sure this cost my buddies plenty. Anyway, my own recollection and those of my groomsmen indicate that the whole time I was telling her that she deserves a good life and I hope she has a guy that takes care of her and is she in school and does she have a dog and on and on. Meanwhile, she's grinding on my thigh with nothing between me and her except my pants leg and good intentions.

I didn't like the British version anywhere near as much... the characters just weren't as interesting and it definitely felt like it took longer for a good joke to come along.

I really liked yesterday's episode though... obviously, strippers usually = comedy gold.

The entire cast of The Office....In Mii form. Brilliantly conceived and executed. To wit:

Make sure you check out the link. They got EVERY single character, including all of the Stamford office, Sexy Ben Franklin, and Cousin Mose.

Whoa they all look great. Its crazy how Jim's trademark smirk transfers over so easily. Its weird that it makes the cast look a lot bigger. Even looking at just half the group looks like a lot more people than you'd think is on the show.

I'm surprised bob didn't punch michael in the face right in front of everyone when he gave his speech. Dwight looking out for wedding crashers is hilarious.

I think my favorite part was the fact that Ryan was in the middle of the women trying to get the bouquet, since I'm fairly sure it was to make sure Kelly didn't get it. It was so great.

This is bullshit!

Another really good episode - I am a bit disappointed that they recycled an old Simpsons joke though - and they made it worse: "What is a wedding? Webster's dictionary defines a wedding as 'the process of removing weeds from one's garden.'" Now that was funny.

Michael was unbelievably petty tonight, so I loved the show. Toby got a chick! GO TOBY! I was glad to see Roy and Pam back together again, even if it's only for one or two shows, as Roy's shown that he wants to be a better person, even though he certainly didn't show that much tonight by acting kind of selfish. But he came through in the and and tried to make Pam feel better, which counts for something. Dwight was great tonight during the few segments he was shown in.

“We Schrutes get married in our graves. It makes the funerals very romantic, but the weddings are a bleak afair.”
“There are too many people on this Earth. We need a new plague.”
