Decent interview with head of Hudon's console division
The parallels have already been drawn between your game and Wii Sports. Do you feel one offers something the other doesn't? Would you find your product superior to Nintendo's sports collection?

Everyone is a big fan of Wii Sports at Hudson. But what we found is that the game left many people hungry for more. Going back to those early focus groups we found that fans of Wii Sports wanted more sports and a greater single player component. We focused on building upon the fun of Wii Sports multiplayer and delivering to that demand.

Do you hope this will topple Wii Sports as the go-to sports collection, or go-to game overall, on the Wii?

We'd be very happy to be placed next to Wii Sports on a consumer's shelf.
Hate to share an opinion with the soccer mom Wii owners who bought a Wii for Wii Sports, but I've been wanting more party game sports on Wii since I got one. $29.99 and I'm probably getting this at launch if reviews are favorable.

(Would embed, but in case dial-up users are reading this...)

25 minutes of Deca Sports

From looking at the video, the sports included are:
Badminton
Kart Racing
Curling
Snowboard Cross
Archery
Supercross
Beach Volleyball
Figure Skating
Basketball
Soccer

Looks like a decent collection, although I can't see figure skating being that much fun.

Assuming the controls are halfway decent (and all signs so far point to yes), then $30 makes this a day-one purchase.

This game and We Ski are good supplements to Wii Sports, IMO.

I've played this. I like it a lot better the Sonic and Mario Olympics. It just seems like things flowed better and moved faster.

Archery is quite great. Badminton felt very "floaty", IIRC its just like Wii Sports Tennis where you don't really control much. It could have more to it since everything was in Japanese though. Cart Racing worked nicely as well. Oddly enough I think Figure Skating may end up to be one of the favorites of the bunch.

Interesting video, but it looks like it really needs to be a multiplayer game. The CPU players seem really unbalanced - totally useless when they're on your team, but way too good when they're on the other team! That seemed especially apparent in soccer.

Basketball looks like it needs an improved shooting system since it seems virtually impossible to get anything even when you're by yourself at the basket. Stealing also seems too easy.

The racing ones looked the weakest, though. Especially motocross. It's like the karts/bikes are just made out of blocks of stone and the hit detection looks overly simplistic. I'm not asking for Motorstorm, but it could be greatly improved.

Overall, though, it does look pretty cool. I'll have to at least consider it when it's released. At $30 it might be worth it, but I'd never pay more than that.

$30 is a pretty good deal. Hopefully, the gameplay is ok. Seems perfect for my 5 year-old. More Wii titles should have this price.

My 3 1/2 year old nephew can play through Wii Sports and any Wii racing game. Also anything that just involves pointing and clicking. Your 5 year old should enjoy Deca as much if not more than Wii Sports.

For some reason I thought this came out a while ago. I know it's mostly unrelated, but I was really surprised at how fun Winter Sports was for the Wii. Curling is the best game ever; I don't know how I lived without it. So I'll probably end up getting Deca too. It's nice to have games for people who want to play but hate cartoony trolls like Mario.

Go back to Canada!

And all the Deca characters look like Miis with muscles.

What are you talking aboot? That sucks about the Deca characters. As long as they're not too garish I should still be able to convince my wife to play.

It would be nice to see how the controls were used in the games with a picture-in-picture view. I'd like to know how the controls were used in archery and curling, and if you could "aim" your shots in volleyball like in tennis. Figure skating actually looked interesting instead of the overused and craptacular rhythm based gameplay it's always gotten over the years.

One major drawback is going to be the background techno music. By the time I watched 20 seconds of Basketball, I wanted to punch my computer screen.

As long as it has sound options, I'm good. I turn the backbround music off on 90% of what I play and listen to my own music instead along with the sound effects from the game.

I'm curious about the archery controls too; archery was my favorite event in Barcelona Olympics for the Genesis and I'm hoping Deca will be able to simulate the slight shaking of the bow as more tension is applied. I'd like to imagine a rumbling Wiimote along with a shuddering screen.

Archery is just hold B and release to shoot with the wind direction and speed on the side. Curling is like a shot of pool in Wii Play with a power gauge to throw the stone. Then you waggle away for the sweeping. Volleyball does play similar to Tennis as you can control the direction but not where your players go. When you setup the ball it glows and you time for the glow to turn red for a good spike.

Thanks for the recommendation. I will definitely pick this game up.

I also enjoy watching curling. Every Winter Olympics, my brother and I, just can't help watching the curling competitions. Why?

We have no idea. :whistle2:k

Because all life springs from curling. Let's co-opt this thread and turn it into The Official CAG Thread of Curling Love.

I too can't wait for this game. I hope that curling is fun. I would love to try it in real life. It looks really fun. The winter olympics rule because of curling.

I hope I don't burst anyones bubble, but as a Semi-Pro Curler myself I must protest that the sweeping physics are totally off! And don't get me started on the friction!

I hope someone comes up with a way to mod the Wiimote so it gets uncomfortably cold if you play for too long. And then a mod for the Wii to also heat and pour cider.
Anybody picking this up?
I say no right now, but I said the exact same thing with Mario Kart and Boom Blox and now I have both of those. With WiiWare coming up too I think I actually mean it this time...

If curling is an Olympic sport, then oral sex is adultery. And oral sex should be an Olympic sport, because it's harder than curling and if you're any good at it, you deserve a medal!

Don't mind me. I was going to come into here and remark about how there were 23 posts about this game, which strikes me as 23 too many.

Hey now strell!!! I wants mys wii sports 2!!

Nows I've waited a year a half for a spiritual successor!!!

I can no haz any Deca sports cause it's too fatty of a price on my wallet. :booty:

This is NOT anything near a Wii Sports 2.
Sorry, but Wii Sports is awesome and I don't think this will be anything like that.

I saw the trailer on the Nintendo Channel..couldn't really care for this. Maybe after I read several impressions here that might change..but I don't know.

Yup. Its more of the Wii Sports : Complicated version. Or Uncasual version, given the sports chosen.
