The Official Castlevania -Dawn of Sorrow Discussion Thread

grr... Does Best Buy normally get things in during the day? Went at 10:00 during a break from class and they didn't have any in the back nor any in the back. Everyone working was pretty clueless.

It is possible Megamibeast is getting the $10 off in his overstock cart because he got the $10 overstock credit if he signed up for overstock auction a while back

Well, usually come in via UPS...or at least ours always did. So yes, it's could be possible for them to get in in the middle of the day.

In other news... still no guide today. The people at EB didn't even have a listing for it in their system (there is no online listing either), and the employee asked me a few times on the phone if "I was sure they were even bringing out a guide, since it's not listed".

Gamestop was a bit more help, the first guy was clueless but the second time I called (to try and get an exact date) he found out the guide shipped today, and would be in the stores tommorrow, he said there might have been a delay since it's from "a small publishing house I haven't heard of before".

I searched DoubleJump Books forums, and only found out info that it should have been in stores 1 - 2 days BEFORE the game, so maybe it's my area? Anyways, that's a shitty way to sell a guide, to completely miss the launch of the game... if I didn't think this thing would hold it's a value and be a good read, I just wouldn't care.

Hopefully tommorrow is when it'll come in... anyone else found any luck getting it?

Anyone figure out the whole weapon synthesis thing? What about 'releasing souls'?

Rouf, My Gamestop did not have the guide either. I'm located in Cali...

Unlike previous Castlevania games like the GBA ones and SOTN, you can't find that many useful weapons to use in the castle. You need to fuse a weapon and a soul to synthesize a stronger weapon.

If you're familiar with the Valmanway, Claihm Solais, Death Scythe etc... you can only get those 'godly' weapons by gathering the needed souls/weapons and synthesizing them.

The way you level up souls in this game is based on the # of souls you have in possesion. For example... certain souls can be leveled up to level 3... the most you can hold is 9... so if you have 4 of 9 possible souls your level would be 2 out of 3. If it's too confusing right now, just play the game and you'll understand.

By freeing souls you basically throw away a soul and level down your soul(I don't see why you would want to do that because most of the time the way the soul evolves is to your advantage)...

Nope I never sign up for anything. I tried it on other games but it only work on castlevania and kirby.

Man, got this today from TRU (Best Buy didn't want my money I guess). Amazing. My roomie picked it up too and we've been playing all evening and night. :) My DS ran out of juice... and I had it pretty near a full charge. First time I've ever done that. So great!

I'm gonna pick up Trauma Center tomorrow, but will be bouncing back and forth between the two for a while I'm sure. It really is everything I loved about Aria taken to the next level. It's just great! :)
On a completely non-related CAG note, I'm furious that I cannot upgrade my Combat Knife.
Nevermind. I like my knuckles.

And I have yet to find the guide, either. I'll keep checking back though - if ti doesn't come through, I'll just order it off of doublejump.

This game is fucking amazing :p.

Got it today at Toys R Us for $44.99, felt kind of ripped as I went back to university with it in my pocket, but when I got home and played it, man. Four and a half hours on it now, totally neglected studying for my math test tomorrow (>.

Got mine Wednesday, kept it unopened on my desk until midterms finished today. It was tough, but probably the best reward you can have for finishing up something like that. I love it so far. :)

Just picked it up today. If you own a DS, buy this game now. Seriously, it's the best DS game so far, easily, and is competition with SOTN for best Castlevania game ever.

Went to Wal-Mart last night and they didn't have it. Actually they didn't have jack or shit. I'll call Target and go during my lunch break if they have it. Otherwise it will be Ebgames or Circuit City Saturday. I have the Platinum Visa at the ready and the first retailer to come up with the goods is getting my $165 for the game and console.

Just remember that Wal-mart and Targets have a better chance of having Mario as a pack-in freebie with the DS. If anything, you can just toss it at the EB/Gamestop guys and get a few bucks off Castlevania

Today is supposed to be the day it comes in, is what I was told at Gamestop. The EB here, after I called them this morning, still dosen't think a guide even exists because it's not in their computers.

So yea, I'll be calling Gamestop on my lunch break and hopefully picking up the guide today, the whopping one copy they will probably get in. Hopefully.

Did nobody get in on the Best Buy pre-order deal back in May? $26.99, free shipping, with tax $28.34. I ordered it anticipating the game would be $39.99, but it's still a nice savings.

I don't think that any more of those are floating around. I struck out at Target and I'll be mad If I have to order the game online. I'm not buying the DS until I have Castlevania in my sweaty hands.

I ordered the game from GameStop.com today. It was listed as being instock. Ten minutes later it is listed as backordered on my account page, but listed as usually ships in 24 hours when I search for the game on the website. They did the same thing with Trauma Center and later that afternoon it shipped.

Wohoo. Got my setup at EB during lunchtime. EB has been good to all of us with their used games online (Saver, CAG15, usually good prices) so I'm happy to give them my business.

For those of you that beat the game. Afterwards you get to play "JULIUS MODE" where you start the game off as Julius Belmont. Eventually with some exploring you meet up with Yoko Belnades(if you didn't know is related to Sypha from Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse), and you get to play with her, by pressing X you can switch between both characters who each have their own moveset and special attacks/stats.

The best part though is later on when meeting up with Genya Arikado, who if you've been paying attention is really Alucard(Also of Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night), once meeting him you also get to control him throughout the castle. The best part about it though, it's not the suit version, it's the SOTN version(almost completely). I just wish you could equip weapons/use items like in the main game, but then again that'd be too good!

I cancelled my order at Gamestop for Castlevania. Walmart got their shipment this morning. My copy of Trauma Center should be here tomorrow.

Picked up both Castlevania and Trauma Center.. played it for a second and couldn't figure out what to do after I got some chick and a bridge is raised so I switched to Trauma Center.. pretty cool so far.. the only thing that blows goat balls is the sticker on the lower left corner of Castlevania wasn't pressed down all the way and when I put the cart in, it made it worse.. hopefully I got that fixed..
my gamestop got the guide in today! yay!
Same here... they only got in two copies of the guide total, only one left now though :D

Is the guide worth the purchase for the extras in it? I'm not especially keen on a walkthrough (that's what GameFAQs is for!), but if it's got a lot of nice art and history and stuff in it, I might be interested.

Man this is sold out just about everywhere around here. Luckly I got a copy at EB when they just recieved a new shipment, so I lucked out. So far it's really good, probably the best DS game I've played.

All you gotta do in Castlevania is wander, kill stuff and collect things and eventually it'll all fall in to place

If I were to buy a GBA Castlevania, whih should I buy? I have limited funds, and want to play 'the best' GBA Castlevania beforE I buy this one.

Aria of Sorrow, not only is it the best but Dawn of Sorrow is a direct sequel, a rare thing in the Castlevania line.

Good luck finding a legit copy of it, though. It's pretty hard (and expensive) to come by. If you find a source, let me know. I'm tired of borrowing my friend's copy!
How big is the guide?
The size of the book is a bit bigger then a DVD case, and its pretty thick. I think it has somewhere like 260 pages? I really enjoy the guide, if only for the synthethis details.
Its also a DJ guide, and its Castlevania, which means it has a decent chance of retaining its value.

Is there any word of a Dawn of Sorrow (and maybe Aria with it) soundtrack? Obviously it'll probably be in Japan only, but I'd love to get my hands on it. What great music.

Just got the Final Guard soul and the Soul Eater Ring. Dang, 2 days, 10 hours. I don't normally do that with games. This one just rocks.

Oh thats a pretty decent size. Not as big as their nocturne guide. I don't know if you have seen that yet, its like a brick.

yup 400+ pages. and it's a real bitch to keep open while trying to navigate those annoying pitfalls in the dungeons in the game.

This game is flat out amazing. So far it's on par with Symphony of the Night. I'm about four hours in right now.

My GameStop got the guides in, so I'll be picking one up soon just for collector's sake.

So what souls does everyone like the best? I'm a big fan of Manticore for Gaurdian, Mandragoras for Bullet, and The Creature for Enchant :p.
