The Official Castlevania -Dawn of Sorrow Discussion Thread

I'm still early in the game, but I like Zombies(x3) for bullet. Dmitri was a breeze with those.

Probably
Witch for Bullet
Bats x9 for Guardian (amazing what they can do to bosses)
and Golem x9 for normal things or Ghost Dancer x9 for soul hunting. :)

Although, most of them are really cool so it's hard to choose. :)

I swear my absolute favorite power overall so far is that "skull shop vac" from persephone that damages an enemy and gives you +2 health as you keep the hose on em. I slaughtered the PuppetMaster boss with it in moments. Its funny as hell to look at too.

So far its a great game, I have Soma at level 23, but its WAY too damn easy and frankly I think the characters suck and look like the generic anime design they were pretty much looking for (UGH). SOTN is still my fave of the series as I am just not an overall fan of the atomosphere or design as I was in the past with the series. The game isn't "Creepy" and I don't even feel like I am in some old castle anymore. I really wish we could get the Belmont's back and hop back to an older setting.

As I said, in the end I am loving it and its still a wonderful game, LONG LIVE 2D art. An absolute must buy and further proof that the DS is going to have some really great stuff coming and if you don't have one you will be missing out big time.

I'm just past the time-stop-soul boss [Zephyr?], and I'm level 49. I think I'm overlevelled as I've never had any trouble with anything in the entire game yet. It's just too much fun hunting souls :p.

Kojima didn't do the art for this game because she was focused on Curse of Darkness art. So IGA just had someone else take over the art direction for this title.

Picked up the guide at my EB yesterday, it was the only one they had. After seeing the condition, I didn't really want it as much, (small tear that doesn't go through on the cover, and the corners are a little bent) but those guys went out of their way and searched for it for a good 10-15 minutes instead of giving up when they didn't find it right away.

Moral of the story: Check back at your EB if you're still searching for the guide :)

I'm thinking of picking this up with guide soon. All I've heard are good reviews. Sounds like a good first Castlevania experience to me.

Dimitiri was a breeze when I hit him with Une for bullet, and he just kept copying that, and it's such a worthless soul otherwise.

it's good for big enemies-- time it right and you can get like 4 hits off with one of them.

I just beat Gergoth the other day and so far I am loving the game :)

I am really trying to take my time with this game, trying to get as many souls as I can. Right now I am trying to get another Valkyrie soul, so that I can upgrade my Great Sword. I have 1, but I don't want to fuse that to my current weapon.

Also Balore looks so much more badass in this game than he did in Aria.

Ugh, good luck. One of the more stubborn enemies in the game. I spent a good long while just trying to get one.

I found the best way was to use the Skeleton bullet. He kept throwing bones, and I was able to run in and punch the heck out of him (with the speed he punches, I get more damage with that than with anything else)

punch punch punch uppercut!

My main gripe is that the game seems too short. They really need to pull a "2nd Castle" or a whole new location to explore, otherwise I'm going to be really annoyed.

Or let you play as Genya or Julius. Something to add replayability.

There is a special mode after...

I had to kill the Valkyrie maybe 10-13 times, and I got lucky and got another soul. So I kept one to equip, and I fused the soul to my Great Sword to upgrade it. Also I've upgraded the sword to a new one since then as well.

:) I LOVE this game.

Anybody discovered a glicth where you can sometimes equip your armor as the "accessory"? (I had 1 leather armor and somehow the only armor is now equipped as both armor and accessory. (You see, I only have 1 armor, but it shows that I am equipping that armor as both the armor and the accessory).

Heh, too bad there IS a Julius mode. Complaint nullified.

Not only that, it's amazingly fun. :D

So is the guide worth it?

I usually don't use them to get through the game (although I did need one to find the sheild rod in SotN), is the content in it worth it?

Anybody?
for those of you who have gotten far,

also how are you able to open those "jackpot" slot machine looking doors?
The last 3 digits of your gold have to match the numbers on the vault door at the bottom. :)
I got Creature almost instantly. Valkyrie, Iron Golem, Final Gaurd, and Alastor....T.T;
what are you using to defeat the Iron Golem. in Aria it died instantly when you used the Mantle soul on it.

also the Creature is a stubborn bastard, I still haven't got him yet. same with the Giant Axe Armor.

ive only gotten on giant axe armor so far, i really want another one so i can upgrade my weapon, and i havent gotten the blue zombie yet, even ive killed about a million of them

The Ghoul soul is great. Eat rotting meat and spoiled milk and regain HP! Hot dog! The good part about getting that soul is, while trying to get it, you problaby got like 3 or 4 Rotten Meats :)

the Waiter Skeleton soul rules!!! I've been rocking every monster with my mad lvl. 2 curry plates!!

I also like playing with the yeti soul, even though it's weak.

i've been having trouble locating some of the enemies i need to kill to get their souls...i jsut forget where they are when i need their souls for upgrades.

Level 9 is awesome. The curry takes up like a 1/4 of the floor space. ;)
OH MY GOD. Nowhere I've gone has had Castlevania in stock
Being the semi-pessismist I am, I have to ask.

Is this game rare/underproduced?

I really want to wait until I get a few more dollars so I can grab game+guide at the same time (B&M or online, either), but I don't want to wait and find out I'm SOL.

I doubt it's 'rare' or 'underproduced', but I have to ask. =\

Knowing the situation with the last two GBA Castlevanias, this wouldn't surprise me. If anyone's really having difficulty finding one, I might be able to get you one for cost + shipping (don't know what's left in my area). Also, the online places seem to be well stocked. :)

just beat the game. :) I took my time with it so it took me around 13+ hours.

I finally upgraded my great sword all the way to a Claimh Solias, but I still want to try and get another Final Guard soul so I can upgrade my axe. one of the most stubborn souls in the game, and they are always in the most inconvienent places (not really near save points or warp points).

has anyone found Dracula's Tunic yet? a friend of mine said he got it in his game, but I'm not sure where it is.

Well...as long as they don't go rare by next week.
lol, the game just came out and you already beat it?
i don't see how thats funny. it isn't the world's longest game, and I've had the game for over a week now.

also I finally found Drac's tunic :) happy days.

How do you get to the lower-right portion of the map? The one that you have to get past that narrow water area with spikes below, but your full body can't fit when swimming

Edit: check that, I meant lower-left

use the Bone Ark soul to get across. it's from the monster that's just a dragon's head carried by 2 skeletons. i think it's somewhere near that area.

I got through a wall somehow and I got these wierd souls that have no names but they are pretty powerful.
It also got my map rating to 104%

Alot of people are saying this game is better than SoTN but I dont think it compares. I kind of liked the Aria a bit better too. Still a great game though.
