The Official Castlevania -Dawn of Sorrow Discussion Thread
Level 9 is awesome. The curry takes up like a 1/4 of the floor space. ;)
Nice! I had an easy time getting it to level 2, but now the waiters just don't want to give up their souls.

I think this game can be really long if you try to do everything. I'm currently at 30%, level 35, about 6 hours. The strat guide helps alot with soul collecting and secrets, which I'm totally hooked to. It reminds me of recruiting demons in SMT:Nocturne, but not half as nerve wracking and a lot more fun.

Anyone found a use for the big piano? The strat guide says that they played with it for hours and couldn't find anything...there's gotta be something to it!!
I got through a wall somehow and I got these wierd souls that have no names but they are pretty powerful.
It also got my map rating to 104%

Alot of people are saying this game is better than SoTN but I dont think it compares. I kind of liked the Aria a bit better too. Still a great game though.
yeah, that's the Succubus glitch.

you need to have the Succubus soul equiped, a dagger weapon, and be facing a wall with no doors.

first, you activate the Succubus soul, and right when Soma is raising his arm, press the special attack button to forward stab with your dagger. then do 3 normal attacks with the dagger. finally, another special attack. you should've gone to the other side of the wall and will probably be floating like crazy through the map.

for more info about it:

i managed to get some abilities from Julius mode, and i got Alucard's Sword too. pretty cool.
use the Bone Ark soul to get across. it's from the monster that's just a dragon's head carried by 2 skeletons. i think it's somewhere near that area.
Great, thanks!

I just realized that I'm right before the last boss; holy fucking christmas it's a short game!

You'd think that I'd have to collect everything in the game since I'm so OCD, but I just don't care. LAME.

If I didn't waste so much time soul searching, this would be maybe a two-three hour game. I can see a lot of people who aren't completionists being really mad about the length of this game, but it's much like a 2D metroid, and meant to played for completion, not just the defeat of the final boss.

I can also see a lot of people not actually beating the game, much like SOTN.

Are you sure you're actually at the end, or the "end"?

Sure, the game's a lot faster if you don't do a lot of soul searching, but damn, 2-3 hours? Granted, I haven't made a second trip through the game yet but my first run took about 6-7, with only a little bit of soul searching.

Official word says that the piano is in the game for fun. There's no secret to it.

Well, it was "an" ending, but hopefully not "the" ending. Pretty inconclusive, if you ask me.

I've heard about the very, very sucky ending.

Guys, I desperately want this game, everyone is talking about it on TDS, just how good is it? And do I need to have played AoS to understand it (yes guys, i didn't...
)

AoS is summarized at the start of the game, so don't worry about that. As far as the very "sucky" ending, that's up for debate. There are, however, multiple endings--one that really IS sucky, the bad ending, and the good ending. It's not some mind-blowing close to what really is a mind-blowing game, but it gets the job done.

I know not all endings suck, I'm talking about the very bad sucky ending when I'm talking about that.

By the wya, once your completed the 'sucky' ending, what happens after that? Do you have to start a new game?

nope, u just start at the last save point. but it autosaved after u saw the sucky ending.

Just beat the game with the 'good' ending. Thoroughly enjoyable from beginning to end - I'm seriously considering tracking down a copy of Symphony of the Night so I can play some more 2D Castlevania on the big screen over the weekend.

question about Julius mode

::SPOILER (though if you read a review, you probably know this)::

After you get Yoko and Alucard, where the hell are you supposed go? I assume you're supposed to go to the top of the castle and fight Soma?

:: End Spoiler

Question:

How do I get past those doors that look like screws? And how do I get through those small gaps in the walls?

Also, I was at the section in...I think the wizardry lab with the slot machine door. Obviously I need to open it to drain the section below it, but every time I try to get 777 or whatnot, I end up with 092. How the fuck do I open that door?

the doors have a trigger on the other side that you can reach later on it the game. as for the gaps, you need to have the Puppet Master soul to get through them. and the slot machine is the last three numbers of your current amount of gold.

You just have to go through the game, beat the bosses, get your levels up, and progress. Note that Alucard's ability to turn into a bat will get you through those small spaces.

Alright, I went through the "Puppet Gaps" and got inside the 777 room...but there was no switch to lower the water. How the hell do I lower the water at the bottom of the Garden?

*SPOILER?*

i don't think you can lower the water. because one of the boss's souls allows you to move underwater.

Where is the boss? I mean I'm already to the cursed clock tower (which I believe to be getting near the end), and I can't swim - I looked at a few guides on GameFAQs, and all of them have the boss listed in an order indicating I should have already fought it, but I haven't...

So where in the map (what section, or what block according to this map) is this boss?

the red circle and X is where the water boss is.

the crown does nothing. apparently it's a reference to an older Castlevania game or Konami game, i'm not really sure.

Radioactive Man: "The crown, it does notink!"

Hmmm, on a related note, anyone notice the tribute to Donkey Kong? That skeleton ape chucking barrels at you?

This is the second time I notice a DK tribute, the first being the one in Resident Evil 4. I'm talking about that part where you have to ascend some tower and dogde huge barrels to get to the top and the maiden in distress.

The Skeleton Apes have also been in previous Castlevania games. I know they were in SotN, and I'm guessing they've been in others as well.

Just keep going. That's the thing about Castlevania games these days, they don't have to be linear. :) The boss you fight to get the going under wanter soul is a big worm thing who is under water while you float around up top.

I think they were first in Rondo of Blood. It's really cool how much Symphony and Rondo payed homage to the older games.

How do I get into the two circled doors on the floor of the lost village?

And what determines whether or not you get the "bad" ending. I was shocked when the credits rolled and I hadn't even fought the main chick...

I just started playing the game. It's definately the best Castlevania game I've played so far, but that's not saying much.

Everyone gets the bad ending. Its just that you need to go through the three stone walls that require certain souls to open to 'finish' some of the game. There are numerous endings here.

That's not really true. I made it through the whole game and only got the good ending. If you mess up or miss something you get the bad ending. :)

No...EVERYONE gets the bad ending, period.
After that, there are two other endings, one being if you equip Mins tailsment, the other if you dont.

Then again, I may be wrong, but Im almost positive everyone has to get the bad ending for the story to even progress.
How do I get access to the dark portal on the base of the tower?
nevermind, I found out how. I jsut defeated Death too. I am really loving this game. 9 1/2 hours in, already saw two endings, have 50% off the souls.

Nope, if you go into the mirror right away in the battle with Dimitri you can avoid the bad ending altogether. :) (It helps having a friend play through it who's a 1/2 step ahead of you in the game. ;) )

Oh my god tell me how.

While I love the game, I REALLY could have done without the magic seal business. Since the DS dosen't register my fingertips very well, I have to fumble to find the stylus, and in that instant the window of oppturnity closes so I have to fight the boss a second time and be ready.

Just seems like a cheap gimmick that they should have just dropped.

So have the stylus in your hand. Not that hard to play with it inbetween your fingers.

Oh, and I keep it in my mouth when I know I'm going after a boss. No one else uses it. ¬ ¬
Urm...one more question. Apparently I need Mina's Talisman to get the good ending? What if I sold it? :D
HA!...you might be able to buy it back from the shop, but idk on that one.

You get the ability after yopu defeat Persona (I think thats the name)
