The Official Castlevania -Dawn of Sorrow Discussion Thread

still working on my first file (beat the game already), put in about 19 hours so far. have Soma up to Level 80, 100% map completion, and have about 97/98% souls. I am one away from having all but 2 (I fused 2 boss souls, unfortunely). probably will start a + file after getting this last soul, so it'll be easier to get the Chaos Ring this time around.
Fusing souls? Is this something else I should know about, or do I learn it later?
you can learn it later, but it helps to get started early in the game. basically, you can fuse one of a particular soul to one of your weapons, changing it to a stronger/different weapon. whether it be a long sword, katana, axe or so on. trick is once you fuse a soul to a weapon it's gone from your inventory (you only use 1, so if you have 2 of lets say Axe Armor, you will still have one left). I fused 2 boss souls to two different weapons, so even if I were to use Soul Release (basically what it says), I would have no way to re-fight the bosses other than starting another game. the above doesn't apply to regular enemies.

the place where you fuse souls is the shop right across from Hammer's item shop.

I see. I guess I haven't found that yet. I just beat that guy who spits fire at you. One of the Dark Lord candidates. I haven't found an item shop or a soul fusing shop. =\

Another question- I've found many walls that have holes in them that look like my body will JUST fit...but I can't go through. It's like...

Kind of. How can I get through?

And lastly, anyone know where to go after I beat the fire guy? I've explored about everything, but can't find a new area. Oh, and I found water, but can't swim.

Then you haven't looked very hard. Both are in the Lost Village, shortly after the Flying Armor's room.

If I beat the game getting the bad ending (Not the worst ending by beating Dario, but the wors eone by not equipping the pendent) and get Julius mode, can I still reopen that old file I got the bad ending for and go on the get the best ending?

Also, if I DO beat Dario in the Pinnacle for the worst ending...do I get anything special, like Julius Mode for the bad ending ( I think)?

Not sure if anyone has discussed this yet (and if so I apologize, I swear I've checked the entirety of this thread), but what is the advantage/reason for releasing souls? Obviously weapon fusion is self explanatory, but I don't understand why I'd release one. I think Yoko told me why she does it, but I accidentally sped through that one window of conversation (something that happened to me a few times in Trauma Center also).

Excellent game, not quite up to SOTN. But then again, what else is? I might write a review...

Yeah, I'd like to know the advantage of that also. =\

This game is excellent. I'm loving it. I just beat Bat company, and have found the three souls needed to break through the barriers to get to the next boss, whoever that may be.

I dont think there is a point to releasing souls, if there is I havent figured it out yet. Also WTF is Konami man, I just got this item today, you cant use it for anything and Im not even sure what I did to get it. it just came flying out the side of the screen. But damn it looks funny

Yoko does a shit job of explaining it and they don't mention it in the damn manual either. I was interested in this too and therefore found a thread on GameFAQs that explained that it's probably only there so you can get a soul ability back to a previous level if you want to. As souls increase in level, sometimes their abilities change quite a bit; so this is a way to get them back to their previous forms.
Wt....that f*cker threw curry at me!

YOU BETTER RUN ASSHOLE
Lol, took me forever to get his soul.

Speaking of which, I got a Valkyrie soul! Yay! Need another one to fuse but can't get it, though. ;-;

I also can't get the soul that allows to the swim wquickly. the one that comes from the head that float on water. I tried forever.

Sorry if this has been asked; I haven't seen it.

In order to get the best kind of weapon, I need to fuse a boss' soul to the weapon I currently use. Is it possible to get another of this soul, or is there another way to collect 100% of souls *and* still get the best weapon (of the great swords)?

Have to replay to get the souls again with New Game +

That is how the Doublejump guide explains it as well.
OK, I'm angry I just "beat" death. Right before I sealed him he sent out those giant skulls that chomp you from each side of the screen. So after I sealed him the skulls chomped me and killed me...I beat him, I even got the seal right on the first try, but no, this game hates me, now I'm gonna have to do the whole battle over again.
I beat Death no problem, but I've tried it several times and I can't do the fucking seal right, ARGH!!!

i love this game. I beat the game twice, but I am still on my first file. I am 3 souls short of 100%, but since I fused Gergoth and Death into seperate weapons, I just need to get the Dead Crusader soul, and then I am going to start a new game to try and get that Chaos Ring. I've put about 19 hours in so far, character level is at 80, 100% map completion.

Go DS.

Take some time and practice it. Odds are you're doing it too slow. I had to learn it well to be able to do it, since it doesn't give you too much time.

Has anyone tried it on hard yet? Ive already gotten the choas ring so I figured Id try for the triple fireball soul. I didnt even notice a difference until some of the later bosses but they are actually somewhat hard now.

If you have the chaos ring and tanjelly, use the gergoth laser to defeat the face inside the skull, keep swinging your sword (hopefully the claihm solais or a strong great sword at the kneecaps.

You should save enough health by using the gergoth killing off the face that fighting the knee should be easy; also, the first form is easy enough that you should not get hit at all, and of course, make sure you stock up on potions from Hammer. What level are you?

Much easier way to kill the last boss:
First, you may wanna spend 20 minutes and grab some good equipment if you don't have it - Dracula's Tunic and Satan's Ring are really, really easy to get and totally worth it. Also, max out your magic potions, or whatever the hell they're called, from Hammer's shop.
Now for Teh Easy: equipt the Death soul and the Abaddon soul. Jump up on the highest level and start tossing locusts at the guy's mouth using the Abaddon soul. If too many triangle monsters attack you, turn the Death soul on and let the sickles help you out. Once the upper head is gone, hop down and do the same on the knee (you'll have to jump before you shoot locusts this time, but that should be your only change.) I fought this boss, like, ten times before I tried this strategy, and it just knocked him out good.

Anyone like Julius mode more than regular mode? It just doesn't feel like Castlevania without a whip.

Where the heck is Satan's Ring? I have 99.0%, haven't found it, and I can't even figure out what room I'm missing.
Anyone have any tips on how to beat the second form of the last boss? I die every time. >

Head to where you fought Dario's final form (have to use Paranoia to kill the demon). Just before that room where the seal was, there's a headless statue with blood, two other statues in the background, etc. Anyway hit the top part of that room. There should be a Fragrach (or wahtever it's called) sword in there also, along with Satan's Ring.

Is there any problem with playing on a copy of a game file? On my original game file, I'm 85% completed and then I copied it and started playing on the copy and am 90% finished. At that point I noticed that I couldn't further copy the copy if that makes any sense. Is that the only limitation with playing on a "copy" file?

The copy file is so you can't copy your file and trade your souls and still have them. If you trade souls from either the copy or the original, it takes them from both, I found that out the hard way...

I had that feeling through both SotN and DoS...i liked being able to play back through it with the whip.

Of course, i was also having fun going through it originallay with a gun, so either way works fine for me :)
