Well i've had it for like 2hr's now & when i 1st opened it up & was entering my personal info into it i broke out into tears. It's awesome!!!!

One feature that isn't mentioned alot is that u can have 1gba and 1ds game in the system at once.

Playing Mario64 with the map on the extra screen it's really helpful & the sound on this thing is GREAT!!!!.

Played Castlevania(gba) on it and it's WAY better than the Gba-sp.

FYI , some think the launch games are lackluster so i would suggest picking up Astro Boy for the Gba. I rank it as the BEST GBA GAME EVER!!!
A while ago on TechTv I heard that it's just a supplement to the GBA and there is still going to be another Game Boy
Hasn't that always been true? I don't think they ever had the intention of replacing the GameBoy.

I cant decide whether to open or sell mine. I was originally going to sell on ebay, but it seems to be calling me, wanting me to partake of it.

I love it... the feel of the system to me feels better than the GBA did... though I still may pull the trigger and buy the limited NES edition GBA soon...
How can Castlevania be WAY better on the DS?
The version i have , "circle of the moon" is ALOT brighter on the DS as opposed to the Gba. Makes a huge difference to me.

Since its backlit, you can actually SEE the game now (yes, its MUCH clearer than on the SP). Plus the Stereo sound makes it that much sweeter.

On that note, I LOVE my DS. I haven't had this much fun playing games in a LOONG TIME.

Super Mario 64 is still amazing and the new levels, minigames, and characters are a blast.

Feel the Magic is so quirky and hilarious that I can't seem to stop playing it! Also, if anyone is a big SEGA/Sonic Team fanatic like I am, you'll be interested to know that you can unlock alternate costumes in Feel The Magic by inserting a few different SEGA GBA games. They're all listed in the manual and include: All the GBA Sonics (including Battle and Pinball Party), Puyo Pop, Chu Chu Rocket, and Space Channel 5 (DAMN, I wish I got it for $5 back in August now! ).

The Metroid Prime demo is pretty fun, but I haven't had a chance to try out the multiplayer yet.

All in all, GET A DS! :D

Okay, I decided not to return the DS or sell it on ebay. I shall now open it and charge it. Then, once it's fully charged, I'll play both metroid and mario.

Yeah I picked up the DS this morning and I love it. I got Mario 64 DS, and the system, but I am going to get Feel the Magic and maybe a Castlevania game since I traded all mine in a while ago.

A few impressions:

Pro: The screens are very nice. The color is amazing. GBA games look much better than on a GBA.

The stylus control is less clunky that I had expected, and the thumb strap actually works well for Mario.

The sound is nice and loud, with good stereo separation.

Con: It is a little on the big side for a portable system (admittedly, this is mostly because I'm used to the GBA SP). Compared to, say, the Turbo Express, it's petite.

The control pad seems stiff and kind of hard to use. Although the touch pad does make up for it to some extent, it's too bad they couldn't figure out how to get an analog stick in there.

All in all, I'd say it shows a lot of promise. As with any system, the games are what will make or break it. We need a few more Marios and a few less Spiderman 2s (haven't actually played that one, but it really doesn't look very inspiring, especially as a DS game).

i am having a hell of a time trying to decide wether to get this or the psp (it cant be both at least not for a while). at one hand i wanna try something innovative (ds with touch screen) or i could get the psp with better graphics and such.

hmmm and i wonder if nintendo plans a sequel to the ds (triple screen anyone? :D )

Let us know how the PSP is when you get one in "Early 2005", whatever that means.

My problem is that there just isnt enough games out yet. I need to read a shitload of user reviews and such before i buy one. Also i dont know if i want to have both PsP and DS.

Also loving the DS. Mario is great. Can't wait to play it again. The only thing that bothers me is I have huge fucking hands and the stylus is so small.

One thing i would consider if i were u is the resale value.
As with all launches this will be slightly hard to find new in the coming months so a used one will go for retail or close to retail if u do decide to sell it because u don't like it.

We know you want it, you know you want it, Nintendo knows you want it. Go and buy it NOW! Just get both. :D

I put a DS(i own one and opened ity and loving it), and a DS i put on ebay which sold for 210$ problem is I dont have another one(hopefully work has one tommorow :))

I am liking my DS so far. The only DS game I bought is Mario, and it is good. I haven't played any GBA games on it yet, but I have lots to try

Ok, my friend convinced me to open it. Fell in love. Looks and feels sooo cool, and i havnt even played a game yet. Hes trying out Hunters.

Does anyone else notice that the bottom screen is a LOT cloudier (i.e. not as vibrant and has a noticeable film over it) than the top screen? I haven't heard anyone mention it so I hope its not just mine.

Mine is like that, too. The touch-screen overlay is noticeable, although I wouldn't say it looks bad.

I love my DS. Better than I expected. Don't judge DS games by the screenshot's. In motion, this thing is amazing.
I cant decide whether to open or sell mine. I was originally going to sell on ebay, but it seems to be calling me, wanting me to partake of it.
I have that same problem. It's sitting there, calling to me...

Though I want to wait for a black one.

And a DS game that I have any interest in playing.

I totally agree, super mario 64 DS screens don't do it justice. Feel the magic rocks. Gonna try Asphalt Urban GT soon.

quick question while on topic of ds.....

didnt they once say there was a way to place calls over ip or something like that from a ds.......

also when are more games coming out....i still cant belive i bought it...i was just at work today and started looking at the ads and said ahh what the fuck..went to bestbuy and put it on my new best buy card

also did anyone pick up any 3rd part accessories????

am i the only one who doesen't like metroid? I think its cuz im left handed and have to use the face buttons as a d-pad. other than that i love Mario 64 as i never owned a N64. The touch control works surprisingly well.

No, I don't like Metroid as well. Well, I actually enjoy it but I just can't adjust to the controls. Otherwise I love the DS and I'm quite happy that I bought it.

anyone get a chance to try multiplayer? i thought the metroid demo supported it. havent seen anyone mention anything at all about multiplayer actually, what about that chat program? how's the wireless range?

Anyone else find it rediculous that games like The Urbz is selling for 40 while Mario is selling for 30? I mean, who is going to buy it?

I must say that I am pretty dissapointed with Mario 64 DS's textures. They are worst than they are on N64. I thought that the DS was more powerful? Don't get me wrong, Mario 64 DS looks and plays great its just that things get pretty ugly and pixelated up close, moreso than the original.

I would buy the DS but I wouldn't know what to do with my SP. They'll only give me 45$ store credit at most stores and I haven't found any good trade in deals.

The textures are indeed pixelated, but, in general, the game looks better than the 64 version...

I must say, playing regular GBA games on this thing is a Godsend...I never owned an SP but I can tell that the DS does extraordinary things for the image qaulity...Gotta love that backlight.

I think the low texture quality has more to do with the capacity of the memory cards rather than the capabilities of the DS. I am sure that down the road larger capacity cards will be available to developers at reasonable cost.
Anyone else find it rediculous that games like The Urbz is selling for 40 while Mario is selling for 30? I mean, who is going to buy it?
I must agree, the 11 Sims fans out there will buy it though. BTW, what is your sig from?

Feel the Magic is the better game though. These will do until Zoo Keeper and Tiger Woods comes out next month.

no, it isn't the game card capacity. Mario 64 was only 64 megabits, a truly trivial amount nearly eight years later from the time of the N64 launch. If you consider all the additional stuff in the DS version it probably at least a megabyte larger.

The real issue here is screen resolution. The resolution of the DS screen(s) is a good chunk less than the 320x240 used for Mario 64 and and massively less than the 640x480 resolution used on the most high-end N64 games requiring the RAM Expansion Pak. Since the resolution of the LCD is a fixed quality is simply something developers have to work with to the best of their abilities. nintendo would surely have used a 320x240 screen to duplicate the res used on literally thousands of console games, as this would have greatly simplified ports from the N64, PS1, Saturn, etc., but this would have pushed up the cost of the hardware significantly. It just wasn't going to happen in a nintendo system shipping in late 2004. Nintendo insists they never lose money on hardware pricing, while Sony has taken the opposite approach. Whether the PSP resolution and size will prove enough of a software sales driver to overcome the hit Sony is taking on each unit remains to be seen. Nintendo, by their claims, is already in profits with the first game sold. This leaves them a lot of leeway to cut the price down the road if Sony comes on too strong.

If anyone does want the Urbz, it is $30 this week at BB. $25 after GGC.

I've never understood who buys any of that series on any system. To me it's like converting every aspect of your life into a form of masturbation. Are people having their Sims do that for them now, also?

Probably gonna get that Feel The Magic (but I've heard it's short someone post detail impressions on that game please) ,I have been playing so much so that while I was playing Super Mario Advance 4 it turned off on me...Time to charge the battery.....it's a b-day gift for myself....The Backlight and speaker and graphics are ok...The metroid prime demo leaves a LOT to be desired...I found out it's only 30 feet range to have wireless gameplay and chatting...THIS is a HUGE disappointment for me unless someone knows different...hell that was it's major selling point to me...possibly playing with other gamers from ANYWHERE not just spitting distance...why would I need to type something or pictograph to someone if they are standing right in front of me....Nintendo let me down on this part...I feel I have nothing more than a glorified GBA right now until titles (Maybe Wario Ware, Inc. DS) interest me....

I think the range is more like 100 feet, and even further with no obstacles in the way. Here's a link to a thread with discussion about Feel the Magic.

I had The Sims Deluxe on PC, The Sims for PS2, Busting Out for Xbox, and The Sims 2 for PC (thanks to that $20 sale at JC Penney)... and I played them for maybe sparse minutes a day or two and never looked back... call me when The Sims actually add 'learning' to the game, where you don't have to tell a hungry Sim to eat, or tell it to go to the restroom.

why would you expect unlimited wireless range? they would have had to include some kind of cell phone network to do something like that and that means a monthly bill. oh yeah and those dudes at warppipe.com are working with nintendo on some program that will let you connect to other gamers over wifi internet connections to play other players but they said they dont expect to release it until 2005

Picked up the DS, Spiderman 2 ( I needed a good brawler) and Feel the Magic.

This thing is great. I got around 60-75 feet through walls without losing my connection with a friends DS during Pictochat and Metroid.

Spiderman 2 is Damn Hard. The graphics are nice I am pretty impressed with that game especially since its a movie licensed game..

Feel the Magic.. well so far this game is EXACTLY that its like MAGIC all the way. A totally fun experience and I do not regret picking it up one bit..

This thing is great..

Yeah, did you *really* expect to be able to connect with people anywhere in the world wirelessly?

Of course Nintendo's going to release a new Game Boy eventually. Notice how the words 'Game Boy' are nowhere in the title of the DS? Just 'cause it's portable doesn't mean it's the next Game Boy.

That said, it's awesome. If you liked Wario Ware, Sega, or those crazy Japanese, you'll like Feel the Magic. I can't wait to see what they maange to do with this system.
