The Official E-Bay Scalping Thread

it pisses me off how much the 60GB's are going for above the 20GB. I understand for the Xbox 360 since the core system is the piece of crap. I think that left a sour note in people wanting the 60GB PS3. The 60GB is on par with the 20GB and in fact a better deal in my opionon. I think people don't realize the drive is easy to swap out. It's a real shame........................

100 dollars shouldnt turn into a 1000 dollar difference.
I'm a little bit pissed off at ebay right now. I listed mine about 4 hours ago and it doesn't show up in the search. Every auction listed after mine up to this very minute shows up - but not mine. What the hell?? I made sure I didn't misspell anything and I'm searching on the exact terms in my auction title. WTF?? There's so many of them on there now that it is unlikely I would be getting bids yet anyway, but it is damn near impossible when I am the only one who can see the damn thing (by doing a direct link from my current auction list).
I just had the same issue with mine.... weird

yeah, I'm thinking about canceling my auction - there are just too many up there right now. I might do better in a week when these auctions are over and the PS3 is still really scarce. I'm not sure though because systems are still going for $1,500 and I'd be more than fine with that... looks like EVERYONE had the same idea this time around. There are 35,000 auctions and there were what - 350,000 systems sold yesterday? 10% seems way high for something like this...

DAMMIT! My buyer is screwing me over and my second chance guy is already picking one up. This is why I hate ebay.

I've got 200 plus feedback, all positive and willing to sell for a good deal to a CAGer. [email protected] or contact me through ebay. But I think I'm through with them.

Yeah I'm happy I dumped mine as soon as I got it yesterday morning. I just did a BIN for 2000 and that was that. Prices have seem to drop in the 1500 range so if you do a BIN for around that price it should sell. It's just ridiculous how many systems are up on ebay.

BIN with immediate payment required. It looked kind of foolish when I did it yesterday, but it's sure looking smart today. Trade peace of mind for "potentially" more money.

EDIT: And if you have great feedback, pay the extra 50 cents for a subtitle. Write: Ebay member since xxxx - Perfect feedback. It'll hopefully make yours stick out and turn it into less of a random click among the BINs.
How do you cancel your auction?
Go to My Ebay > Under ALL SELLING click on SELLING > to the right of the PS3 listing will be a drop box, pick END ITEM from there.

I just ended my listing. Average selling price is going down and mine was sporadically showing up in searches with only 30 views after 20 hours of being listed and a BIN of 1500. Hopefully they go back up in value within the next week or so, but darthlurker I think I might be done with Ebay. I'm also willing to sell to a CAGer, so PM me if interested in a new 60gb

Wow, prices are bottoming out faster then expected.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Playstation-3-60GB-Premium-PS3-w-Extended-Warranty_W0QQitemZ270056241127QQihZ017QQcategoryZ62054QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

This guy also had 1 negative feedback, w/ a total of 30 but nothing horrible. W/ the extended warranty plus 2 games AND Controller, plus ebay fees AND shipping, he will most definitely lose money.

Most auctions are ending b/t 1000-1300 at this point. If I had waited 40 hours for profit like that I'd cry.

Thank god my 8 hours of waiting for a preorder at EB paid off. And I thought I was selling out low when someone BIN at 3700 yesterday morning. Selling at 3700 looks like an absolute dream now. I'll take that and run any day.
If I had to guess though, I would say that prices will likely go back up the closer to Christmas we get. Fewer buyers by then but those who are still left will be more driven to purchase even at a higher cost. Plus there are likely to be less auctions at that time too.
This is a common misconception. I thought the same thing about the 360, but alas, that is wrong. 360 prices hit their lowest right around xmas running the mill around 550ish- with a high of 600.

There is extremely low demand as you get closer to xmas, as people aquire them other ways, become apathetic, or just tell their kid no.

My BIN is way high now ($2,000) but at least I set the reserve at $1,200 so I will still get what I initially wanted (assuming it sells). If not, I'm going to wait a week and relist it then when this craziness has hopefully passed.
This is hilarious seeing all of these non selling auctions for the PS3s.
It's hilarious seeing these quotes on CHEAP ASS GAMER.

People need to save the righteous indignation for the Health Care profiteers or Big Oil.

People are here because they don't like spending money they don't have on games. I would have loved to have kept my PS3, but if someone with money to burn wants to pay me 1250 profit in exchange for me not getting my system until March/April/May... what's a cheap ass gamer to do? Ya' got no choice.

Well, mines up with a BIN of 1800. I was hoping to find a good middle ground in the pricing, but I've got an odd feeling that I am going to need to relist.

But if people don't like spending money they don't have on games, then why spend time buying a $600 POS game system just for a CHANCE to make money off of it?

It's people like that who's causing the eBay market to drown in PS3's.

My thought is this: If I get tired of attempt after attempt at making a profit, I'll just put it up there with BIN at cost plus the shipping and get rid of it in no time.

Or, I'll offer it to a CAG'r at cost, rather than dealing with ebay.

Is this even a serious question? Think about it dude, if you don't have much cash and an opportunity to make $1,000 just by standing in line presents itself... many people would agree that it's a good idea to do so.

Anyway I put mine up for a 3-day auction with starting bid of $2,000 and BIN of $2,500. From the look of things, seems I might not even get that much... oh well. If the news about a more shipments coming in weekly is true, this isn't looking good for PS3 scalpers.

But if people are so hard pressed for money, then why are they even wasting $600+ to begin with?

And then those same people whine and cry when they put their system up on eBay only for them to get owned by scammers and people not wanting to bid on their system with a freaking $2,000 start price.

Not only does that cost more money to list, but it drives potential buyers away.

WELL, prices are already dropping by big margens, compaired to yesterday (no more 2,000 range for you sad hoarders). Odd flucuations are still there. NOTE: These are very recent ending auctions.
If I take down my auction, will I be refunded the Ebay fees?
Nope, you'll get a thank you sucker letter from them, since you'll probably end up losing some money in fees. Thats why evilbay sucks (the down side). Only time you get a refund is when the buyer dosen't complete an auction, or you relist the item when it dosen't sell, and HAS to sell the next time, in order to get your refund.

No, eBay is good as long as you don't abuse it.

It's your own fault you made a starting price of over $1,000 and then wanting to back out of it.

Once again...if you know you're going to make a profit on your item, start the auction off at $1.00, if you are still unsure make reserve price and for love of sweet geebus, only make it for the amount you paid for your itmes.

Well, as I had posted somewhere else in this thread, I sold a PS3 with two games for 1800 BIN.

Annnnnnd the guy decided he didn't want the damn thing after acquiring one locally for a cheaper price. So instead of going through the hassle of telling him he's gotta get it anyway, having him scam me in some way or refusing the item all together, I decided to refund him his damn money and file a dispute, which is already completed (my ebay fees are refunded). Plus, he paypal'd me 250 bucks for my "troubles." Nice guy.

So yeah, relisted the auction with a much lower bin: $1250.00. We'll see what happens. I'll be happy with that, since after my first buyer's gratuity, i'd still make $1500

Mine sold last night to a guy for 1950. He bid right at the last second, and had only 1 feedback. I thought he was a scammer but he emailed me right away and put the money in my paypal. He doesn't have a paypal confirmed address.

And his name is Virgillio San Juan.

Should I be worried? I sent the PS3 out this morning with all of the options I could get on it (insurance, delivery confirmation, signature confirmation).

looks like prices are dropping to around $500 profit from the 20GB consoles. A bit dissapointing. Perhaps it'd be better to wait till we get closer to christmas.
Your Paypal account or bank account? It's in my Paypal account.
I'm thinking no. Like the 360, its only down from here. Tomorrow the Wii is going to come and take even more wind out of this. Having 2 alternatives around really does affect things.

Get rid of it today, you'll be less sorry tomorrow.

I agree. Get rid of that thing ASAP, ASAP, ASAP, ASAP, A-S-A-P, A-S-A-P.

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

I really want to try and get at least $1900-$2000 for mine. The prices have gone down, but people have to realize that they went down late last night and it's still morning on the West coast. I think prices will slowly move up towards the evening.

hmm k, do you think I should wait till tomorrow to list a 20gb? I'm not sure how much people will be shopping online on a sunday. However if I list it tomorrow, it'll end on a monday.

what is the best time of the day to list also?

How much profit do you guys think I can still make on a 20gb? so far it looks like around $500 to me
Is it just me or does it look like closing prices for the PS3 have come down just from this afternoon? (I didn't attempt to get one, but have done a few completed auction searches out of curiosity.)

I see some are closing below $1500 now. (These are ones put up for a straight bid, not BINs.)
Looks like the pattern I thought I picked up on yesterday evening was right. They are going for $1k to $1200 or so now (looking at the last 50 or so that ended only one went much over $1200 and it had 8 games bundled. Surprised how fast the bottom fell out of the market on this one.

Just goes to show the smart move is to throw it up with a competitive fixed price and immediate payment required as soon as you have the thing in your hands. Paying the extra bit to make it featured probably would have been the way to go as well.

Not likely in this market.
I would highly suggest dumping it as fast as possible. There were 200,000 PS3's in the US, and only aroun 25,000 ps3's on ebay, people are going to steadily trickle these in throughout the holiday season, plus second shipment will only make matters worse. Dump it. NOW.
Or maybe throw one on this weekend...it is the biggest shopping weekend of the year.
I never thought about that. I think I'll take a risk and wait and put it this weekend. Any suggestion for a day? Should I put it on Thursday so it'll end on Friday or what?

To continue this story - put the ps3 up on ebay and it sold within a few minutes with a BIN of 1250. Shipping it out on Monday since USPS is closed, as stated in my auction. By then the payments in my paypal account will be moved to my bank account and all will be swell.

Im going to the mall today with a sign on my backpack that says 'PS3 60 GB FOR SALE, ASK ME FOR DETAILS'.......... my friend sold his for 3,200 yesterday that way to a family shopping from mexico.

Make sure you carry some ID so the local authorities can identify you're bloody broken body in the sewage drain.

I can't believe how much this market has tanked. I'm definitely happy with the $2,550 (with free overnight shipping) that I got on Wednesday.

I almost feel bad for the guy I sold it to as he basically paid $500 a day premium to get it on Saturday instead of Tuesday.
