I won't even bother pretending that I played all the heavy hitters out, whether that's due to being a cheap ass gamer, the games just weren't aligned to my tastes, or a mix of the two.
Best game of the Year: Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Mario is on a roll, and I gotta give props) 10/10
Best Platformer: Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Donkey Kong Country Returns was good, but it's difficult to take on a platforming giant such as Mario. Additionally, haven't gotten around to Super Meat Boy or Kirby, but I highly doubt they outclass the likes of Mario.) 10/10
Best RPG of the Year: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story (I'm a sucker for cute mario rpgs, but had I played Costume Quest, Fallout Vegas, or FFXIII, I might have just altered this selection.) 7/10
Best Puzzle and Action/Adventure game of the Year: Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light (I wouldn't mind the next Tomb Raider borrowing some of these concepts, specifically in its execution of co-op) 9/10
Best Shooter: Vanquish (Although, it didn't innovate the shooter genre as much as I had hoped) (I really haven't played any other shooters this year, so I only put down the only one I've gotten around to playing.) 7/10
Best Adventure game of the Year: 999. (I was tempted to say Last Window, but the story is much more gripping and the puzzles are more intelligent, even if parts of the dialogue and characterization can be dry at times.) 8/10
Best Racing game of the Year: Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing (Although, I prefer the chaos of Mario Kart. It's an okay game I suppose.) 6/10
Biggest Disappointments:
Enslaved (Again, a sad case of game trying to be a movie. Everything in this feels too automatic)
Castlevania Lords of Shadow (You've played this game before, and it was done better at that)
Heavy Rain (Boring story and limited gameplay does not a game make)
