Sept Update: Computer glitch is slowing markdowns - some games are marked up instead of marked down. Example: Feel the Magic should be tagged at $9, sept drop should make it $3, glitch is having it ring up $15. Glitch appears to be YMMV or just on certain games. Some games havent dropped at all. Glitch is on the corporate level - no info on when it will be fixed.

FAQ

Q: Why was this thread created?
A: Because there are multiple threads floating around, and its useful to consolidate. THis one will have the OP constantly updates so you don't have to go digging.

Q: Are these prices YMMV?
A: No, they shouldn't be. I currently have 10 K-Marts in my shopping radius, and they've all been consistent. At one time it was thought that they were YMMV, but I'm pretty sure it was instead employee incompetence at keeping prices updated.

EDIT: Some people are reporting prices that are YMMV, but I am hesitant to mark the deal as such. If you get a different price, it seems to be the exception to the rule, not a true YMMV where it is hit or miss. I'd say these prices are 90% accurate.

Q: An employee said the price was higher than what's on the list.
A: Get the game scanned at the register.

Q: The employee got that price gun and said it was higher than what's on the list.
A: GET THE GAME SCANNED AT THE REGISTER. The gun is incorrect sometimes.

Q: Can I use the price checker thingies?
A: YES! Brilliant idea! They will give you an accurate price. Also, if you have the problem of useless employees not opening the cases for you, you can print off the UPC codes and check them at the price checker.

Q: How can I help?
A: Multiple ways:
- Get a job at K-Mart so we have an inside man
- Post the prices of the games you get
- Write down the prices of games you do not get, then post those too

Q: When are items marked down?
A: Once a month, near the middle of the month.

Q: Does this have anything to do with the weekend 50% off sales K-Mart usually runs?
A: No. While some of these games used to be on the list, this is completely seperate. None of these games are on the 50% list anymore and will not be reduced during these sales.

Q: What if I bought a game at a higher price and it gets reduced? Can I get a price adjustment or a return/rebuy?
A: Chances are VERY SLIM. K-Mart does not do price adjustments on clearance items. A return/rebuy might be possible, but most Kmarts do not employee people with the mental capacity to fully understand this concept.

Q:Can I price check the games without getting into the cases?
A: Yes, thanks to this UPC document from TimTucker. You can scan these at self scanners located in most K-Marts, but note that sometimes prices may not be accurate
http://www.timtucker.com/games/kmart_upcs.doc

Q: What if the price is higher than what's on the list?
A: Then your store has not done markdowns left. Ask them if they have any pending PCLs and perhaps they can do it for you, or just wait it out. Also, you could try a return/rebuy if you have another local store that did the drops. Use the UPC sheet to check this

Q: What if a price doesn't come up? It says "Check shelf tag for pricing".
A: This means that the game was at 90% off, and for some reason it was scheduled to be marked down further. If you have a cool employee, you can get games for cheap. If you have a game with outdated tags, you could be in for a hassle. This is similiar when Target marks things down for salvage.

Q: Are these markdowns YMMV?
A: NO. These are universal nationwide prices. If you arent getting them, its your stores problem and doesnt indicate a larger problem as a whole.

Q: How are things marked down?
A: AFAIK, it can be done manually via gun, or it can be done en masse at the register. If you want further details, we are currently looking for a CAG to take one for the team and get a job at K-Mart to infiltrate and learn their secret methods.

Q: What games will drop further?
A: As a GENERAL RULE, games at 1.00, 1.50, 2.00, 3.00, 4.00 are at 90% off AND WILL NOT DROP FURTHER. Games ending in .99 will drop 2 bucks at a time in random intervals.

Q: What do I do with all these games?
A: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95481

THE OLD GAME LIST - All Games on this list are NOW YMMV. These prices are the lowest reported prices, but many are out of the system and will now depend on the employee you get, the tag on the game and your own negotiating skills:

**SPECIAL NOTE** - All games at a certain price point seem to drop across the board. So if say one game dropped from $8 to $5, all other $8 games also dropped to $5. I believe this is due to percentages, I will discuss this in the theories section later. Here are some examples for this month:

Anyone in need of F-Zero GX? LMK before it's gone from my local KMart. If so, please send your trade list.

I don't know how many of you have Boscov's stores in your area, but right now I think all their stores are trying desperately to eliminate their cd/game depts.

I spotted these 'unadvertised' sales listed in a Boscov's in Pottsville, PA tonight.

Game Boy Advance SP(silver version from the box shots) $49.99
Gamecube $79.99

Copies of the following games were also there:

Kabuki Warriors(Xbox):$9.99
Siren(I believe they were ALSO for Xbox):$19.99

As well as numerous other PS1/PS2/Xbox/GC games.

I know this probably doesn't belong here, but I didn't think this small amount of deals didn't deserve its own thread.

Mind you, the games are listed as 50% off, so those $9.99 and $19.99 prices may be able to be halved.

But, after numerous attempts on my part, they put up a disclaimer on the bottom of the 50% signs, saying hardware is NOT included. LOL

Damn, I've been watching this thread all day and no updates. No offense CheapestGamer, I just don't have a Boscov's in my area.

Normally I stay clear of Kmart's since we only have a few left in GA and I never had any luck at one. Today I happen to drive by one and wasn't in a hurry so I gave it a shot. Games were trashed, but to my surprise all markdown games had the yellow tag on them. I thought I mind find a few good ones, but it was a bust until I notice the one item I was hoping to find a Mario Party 4/Wavebird Combo. I even asked the employee in the electonics section if they had any old PS games or items lying around. He just smiled and said no it was all gone. After talking with him for a few minutes he pretty much said anything under $5 ended up in his car. I found the extra wavebird I needed so I can't complain.
After talking with him for a few minutes he pretty much said anything under $5 ended up in his car.
Ahh, to have a job working the K-Mart electronics department.

IAmTheCheapestGamer, I'm surprised you found a Boscov's with games left. Every Boscov's I've been in around Baltimore and Philadelphia got rid of their video games months ago.
Ahh, to have a job working the K-Mart electronics department.
Somehow I'm thinking the drawbacks of working retail in a KMart would vastly outweigh that minor benefit.

Latest GameStop trade-in values:

Mega Man Anniv. Collection (PS2) - $8
Midway's Arcade Treasures 2 (GCN) - $4
Outlaw Golf 2 (PS2) - $6
Golden Nugget (GBA) - $1.50
Somehow I'm thinking the drawbacks of working retail in a KMart would vastly outweigh that minor benefit.
Around here, all I ever see employees do there is screw around. Of course, in the unlikely occasion that there's actually more than 15 cars in the parking lot, they do get slightly busy.

Still in the middle of my shopping trip - added the fact that last months markdowns occured on the 20th, if that helps anyone try and crack a pattern.

Believe me, Damien is right... the dude may have got some $5 games, but he has to work in K-Mart, of all places.

Having worked there myself, it is easily the worst, most mis-managed job I've ever worked at. Those $5 games are a slight joy for the person who has to go work at that hellhole every single day.

Nobody I know of that worked there enjoyed it.

At times there aren't alot of customers, but when you factor in the fact that 99% of customers are either white trash rednecks, old people who will ask 100 questions about electronics and still not understand, or punk ass kids just wailing on the demo units, one customer there equals about 10 customers anywhere else, since they need constant hand holding.

Hopefully good news for me if any of those stores you're visiting have good inventory... I'm in the Outer Banks from the 10th to the 17th, so no video game shopping for me. Virginia Beach is too far to drive in the middle of vacation.

Up here I don't think Kmart is that bad. The one we have is a nice alternative to Walmart when you really need stuff from a department store. The price are generally slightly higher, but some of their stuff is a bit nice than Wallyworld.

BTW, I would kill for a Little Caesar's. Ours all went out of business :(

might swing by some out of town K marts on my travels next week.. even though most of these deals are mega old (almost a year old i would say) you never know in a different area..

I've seen(and haven't seen them added to the master list yet) the following:

Romancing Saga PS2(not sure if this was a misprint on the price sticker or not):$9.99
I saw this in Dickson City, PA in their Kmart.

Unreal Tournament(xbox)- Either $7.00 or $7.99, I don't remember which. I saw this at I believe the Kmart in Edwardsville, PA, where I scored a copy of Rumble Roses.

I did find more, but I'm sure I already listed them in prior posts in this thread.

i might have to check to see if that RS price is correct. If not, well....we don't want to go there mr. iam ;)

LOL Pook, I think I got this guide addiction beat though, as ya haven't seen me 'brag' bout going umpteen miles outta the way to find guides lately.

And yeah, I figured it would be a good idea for someone to double check that price, as I think they used a price GUN to check it for me when I saw the copy with the clearance sticker.

There's no longer demo units at my local K-Mart, and the only people I really see shop at K-Mart are hispanics.

I got the Pooh's for two bucks no problem. Bionicle for gba kept ringing up for 20 bucks and as Lego Star Wars. I was pissed because I had like 6 in my hand.

The older Bionicle game is the one that is $2, not the new one (the one with the gray/black figure on the cover is the new one)

Thanks for the tip. I think I may be done though, the pickings are getting slim....

I totally thought i made out with a bunch of $2 games at a semi closeby Kmart.....but they all rang up for $10!
I still bought a couple $3 ones and walked out the door. Then i had an epiphany and went back and bought them all.
i'll either pricematch or return/rebuy at the store 2 mins from me where i know for sure the $2 is their price. Will be funny when they see my $127 receipt turn into $25.
or return/rebuy which is exactly the same thing.
Are you saying you're allowed to return/rebuy clearance items, or are you saying neither work?

I always assumed most places wouldn't take returns on clearance merchandise, but if K-mart does I wouldn't mind returning/rebuying a few clearance items I recently got around the next drop myself.
Forest Park, IL (7600 Roosevelt) still has 1 or 2 PSOne LCD screens.
Nice, going to check tomorrow for these. Thanks man for the heads up.
Nice, going to check tomorrow for these. Thanks man for the heads up.
The one in Glenwood on Halsted had like 15 of these last time I was there. However, that was the store that was still charging $58 for them.

I've gotten it to work with LCD screens - bought them for 26 at another store then 'returned/rebought' at my local for $9.

I read this post too quickly. At first I thought it said "I bought 26 of them".

Heh - i wouldve been able to buy my condo a bit sooner if that were the case :)

Are these pricedrops valid at all Kmarts?
I asked this because I saw a copy of Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes at one of my Kmarts I've been wanting for quite awhile, with a sticker priced at $29.99. Thanks ahead.

That question is answered in the OP and numerous times throughout the thread. Pricedrops should be universal - it is rare that you will get a higher price on one of these games. Print out the UPC sheet and check the game at a self scanner if you do not want to get an employee to ring it up for you

Only 1 out of 3 K-marts I went to actually had current price stickers on the games (1 had out of date, but not original price stickers and 1 still had the original stickers).

Many of the games I've gotten had regular price stickers on them. Some as high as $49.99! You just have to get the games in question scanned to find out for sure. Don't be disappointed if the game has a high price on it. In fact if the game has been out for quite awhile then I target those games for prices. (As I did for Scooby Doo 2 for GBA for example) That game has been out for a long time, yet it still had a price sticker of $29.99, I figured it couldn't hurt any to check it and voila it rings up $3.

And i successfully got my local Kmart to pricematch(really was a return/rebuy transaction). So if do you find a bunch of supposed $2 games, its likely you can still get that price with a little haggling. Went from $130 to $30 =]

I went back to KMart today. Had a couple more purchases:

Yu-Gi-Oh: Dawn of Destiny (XB) - $4
Conflict Vietnam (PS2) - $2
Shark Tale (XB) - $2
Outlaw Golf 2 (PS2) - $2

Okay, I looked at the OP and saw Megaman Anniversary Collection on the gamecube as $2.
My question is if that price would apply to the recent player's choice version, since I read on the target thread that someone saw it there, but didn't say if its cheaper.
In other words would the player's choice version of Megaman Anniversary Collection be cheaper too? Thanks ahead.

I went to K-Mart in another town yesterday and they didn't have any clearance games.

However, they have a couple of PSP accessories on clearance:

Sony PSP-110 1800mAh battery $12
Sony car power adapter $9
