Sept Update: Computer glitch is slowing markdowns - some games are marked up instead of marked down. Example: Feel the Magic should be tagged at $9, sept drop should make it $3, glitch is having it ring up $15. Glitch appears to be YMMV or just on certain games. Some games havent dropped at all. Glitch is on the corporate level - no info on when it will be fixed.

FAQ

Q: Why was this thread created?
A: Because there are multiple threads floating around, and its useful to consolidate. THis one will have the OP constantly updates so you don't have to go digging.

Q: Are these prices YMMV?
A: No, they shouldn't be. I currently have 10 K-Marts in my shopping radius, and they've all been consistent. At one time it was thought that they were YMMV, but I'm pretty sure it was instead employee incompetence at keeping prices updated.

EDIT: Some people are reporting prices that are YMMV, but I am hesitant to mark the deal as such. If you get a different price, it seems to be the exception to the rule, not a true YMMV where it is hit or miss. I'd say these prices are 90% accurate.

Q: An employee said the price was higher than what's on the list.
A: Get the game scanned at the register.

Q: The employee got that price gun and said it was higher than what's on the list.
A: GET THE GAME SCANNED AT THE REGISTER. The gun is incorrect sometimes.

Q: Can I use the price checker thingies?
A: YES! Brilliant idea! They will give you an accurate price. Also, if you have the problem of useless employees not opening the cases for you, you can print off the UPC codes and check them at the price checker.

Q: How can I help?
A: Multiple ways:
- Get a job at K-Mart so we have an inside man
- Post the prices of the games you get
- Write down the prices of games you do not get, then post those too

Q: When are items marked down?
A: Once a month, near the middle of the month.

Q: Does this have anything to do with the weekend 50% off sales K-Mart usually runs?
A: No. While some of these games used to be on the list, this is completely seperate. None of these games are on the 50% list anymore and will not be reduced during these sales.

Q: What if I bought a game at a higher price and it gets reduced? Can I get a price adjustment or a return/rebuy?
A: Chances are VERY SLIM. K-Mart does not do price adjustments on clearance items. A return/rebuy might be possible, but most Kmarts do not employee people with the mental capacity to fully understand this concept.

Q:Can I price check the games without getting into the cases?
A: Yes, thanks to this UPC document from TimTucker. You can scan these at self scanners located in most K-Marts, but note that sometimes prices may not be accurate
http://www.timtucker.com/games/kmart_upcs.doc

Q: What if the price is higher than what's on the list?
A: Then your store has not done markdowns left. Ask them if they have any pending PCLs and perhaps they can do it for you, or just wait it out. Also, you could try a return/rebuy if you have another local store that did the drops. Use the UPC sheet to check this

Q: What if a price doesn't come up? It says "Check shelf tag for pricing".
A: This means that the game was at 90% off, and for some reason it was scheduled to be marked down further. If you have a cool employee, you can get games for cheap. If you have a game with outdated tags, you could be in for a hassle. This is similiar when Target marks things down for salvage.

Q: Are these markdowns YMMV?
A: NO. These are universal nationwide prices. If you arent getting them, its your stores problem and doesnt indicate a larger problem as a whole.

Q: How are things marked down?
A: AFAIK, it can be done manually via gun, or it can be done en masse at the register. If you want further details, we are currently looking for a CAG to take one for the team and get a job at K-Mart to infiltrate and learn their secret methods.

Q: What games will drop further?
A: As a GENERAL RULE, games at 1.00, 1.50, 2.00, 3.00, 4.00 are at 90% off AND WILL NOT DROP FURTHER. Games ending in .99 will drop 2 bucks at a time in random intervals.

Q: What do I do with all these games?
A: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95481
^ Time Crisis 3 for $18!!!
Is that with one or two guns included?
I'm still debating if I should just wait for the one that comes with dual guncons at Circuit City to pricedrop.
Unfortunately only one GUNCON 2 gun included.

The july update will be coming soon. I got a hold of a new clearance list and there are a lot of new games in the system. The bad news is that they are all starting again at 20-30% off, but in 4 months or so there will be all sorts of new cheapness

Hopefully the $2 markdowns will coincide with another Gamestop $10 bonus sale =]
I think I scored big, but you all can let me know. I stopped by the Jackson, TN store on my way back from Texas yesterday and scored the following:

Time Crisis 3 - $18
Time Crisis: Crisis Zone - $18
Soul Calibur 2 - $2
Well, Crisis Zone w/Guncon 2 is $8.96 at Circuit City and Time Crisis 3 w/Guncon was marked down quite a while ago at Game Crazy ($15, I believe), but if you missed those two sales, it's not bad.

So since the July clearence is coming soon, I guess I should head over to pick up what I want before the current games get knocked out of the system right?
Don't know if these have been posted yet but I noticed a few new drops today

Zelda Wind Waker: $12
Taiko Drum Master $15
Sonic Advance 3 - $10
Taiko Drum Master may be YMMV. I've had Taiko scanned (at the register) as recently as tonight and it's still $25. I've checked 3 different stores in the past few days and they are all at $25 still.

Yeah, I was at a K-Mart earlier today, and noticed stuff that was on clearance that this store never had marked before. Need for Speed Underground 1 and 2 for GCN and Xbox ( I think), Rainbow Six Lockdown (GCN and PS2), Metroid Prime 1 (GCN), etc. The Rainbow Six title was $16. Underground 2 was $20. Wind Waker and Urbz (GCN) were $12 that I scanned.

Didn't have much luck overall. Got nothing at one K-Mart and 2 games at another. Tiger Woods 2005 (GCN) for $3 and Backyard Wrestling (Xbox or PS2, can't remember) for $1.50. Mario Golf was either coming up $19.99 or it was knocked out of the system, not sure. He scanned it, punched something in, and said it was $20. He did the same thing with Midway Arcade Treasures 2 (PS2), which I know is definitely out of the system from prior experience. So there ya go. Both were marked $20, so I declined.

EDIT: Now that I think about, Sonic Advance 3 was most likely ten bucks, as well. The lady in front of me bought a GBA SP and the aforementioned Sonic title, and the total was like 95 bucks or something around there.

I guess this is the end of the 90% off games/accessories like $2 games and the $7 Wavebird/MarioParty 4 bundles. They're all probably going to be kicked out of the system, here's to hoping that they are priced tagged already or ring up correctly still! :)

Here's a tip for the games that have been kicked out of the system. I have kept every receipt that I've gotten from all the Kmarts I've been to. I put them all in an envelope and keep it in my car. This way if I find some games that have been kicked out of the system I take a receipt from another store showing what I'd purchased it for there and some stores may honor that price as it is from another Kmart. Just a thought that may work for some people out there. :)

Dammit!!!! I should've done that at the Kmart I was at Thursday night. I have kept all of my receipts, including the ones from my days as a guide hoarder.

I found a mess of games at the one Kmart I went to Thursday, including a copy of Taiko Drum Master marked @ $15.

If it weren't a 60-70 mile journey to get there again, I'd go back with some of my receipts and try again for those games.

They had:

3-Agent Under Fire for Xbox
2-Midways Arcade Treasures 2 for GC and at least 1 for PS2
1-Winnie the Pooh's Rumbly Tumbly Adventure
3-Rise to Honor for PS2

They also had at least one copy of Rainbow Six 3:Black Arrow for Xbox, which I just bought from the Blockbuster clearance for $5.

I just wish all Kmarts kept up on their prices and marked the games accordingly.

MightySlacker, when you know the exact dates for drops, please let us know :) If it doesn't happen soon, then I guess I should pay K-Mart a visit Monday.

Now I'm confused, do these updates occur during the first half of the month or the last half of the month? In other words, will the August update occur towards the end of the month like July's update? Thanks ahead.

I found a few $2 games yesterday, they rang up as "price required". The other K-Marts where this has happened sold such games to me for $2 ea., but the guy working at this one wouldn't sell them for less than they were marked - $19.99. :headache: I did notice Price of Persia: WW(PS2) marked @ $6 and a bunch of other new clearance games, some of which were mentioned above.

Yea, Army Men RTS rang up Price Req and she wouldnt go below the $14.99 marked price.

Well I'm gonna swing by a K-mart tomorrow and see if they have anything left, they were good about remarking their games so hopefully I'll at least get things for the last price.

After reading this thread, I called up my 2 nearest Kmarts to ask if they had any PS2 clearance titles under $9. Both places said no... those deals were long gone. If that's true and these are supposed to be nationwide deals, are these employees wrong or is did my stores run out of their stock but a few other stores around the country have some stuff left?

Is there any point in me calling my Kmarts periodically or are these clearance deals over for good?

Don't even bother calling unless it's a K-Mart that's far away. Most employees don't even know there is a clearance going on and are usually surprised when these games ring up for such low prices. Plus if they weren't aware of the clearance, by calling you will alert them to it and they could buy up everything for themselves

I think the MP4/Wavebird combo will be $3 now, since last month everything that was $7 in May went to $3 in June.

Found some really great/odd stuff at a Kmart in the middle of nowhere today. 2 copies of the original Devil May Cry (non-GH) for $9.99 and 2 copies of Zelda Classic NES for GBA for $9.99 each as well, in addition to a boatload of $1.50 and $2 games (Soul Calibur 2, Viewtiful Joe 2, NFS2, etc.). Great score!

Picked up a couple good finds today:
Taiko Drum Master, PS2: $15
World Championship Poker, GBA: $2
Medal of Honor - Frontline, GC (non-PC): $2
Splinter Cell, Xbox (non-PH): $5

Alrighty, here's the scoop - a new batch of games has been added to the clearance queue. I'm not sure if some were added earlier and not marked, because they vary from 20-50% off, or if they just added them all at the same time and staggered the prices. Here's another mini-faq since they seem to work so well:

Q: What's the difference between these games and the other ones?
A: Nothing. They just haven't progressed through the clearance chain yet. You can gamble and wait until they hit the price thats right for you, or get them earlier and a not so cheap price.

Q: What's the clearance cycle?
A: 20%-30%-40%-50%-60%-75%-90%-OUT OF SYSTEM. To find out what level a game is at,just figure out the starting price for when it was marked and see what percentage it as at now. A $20 game will go 16-14-12-10-8-5-2.

Q: These prices are high, who gives a shit?
A: Then come back in October.

Q: How can I help?
A: Get PRICES! Even if it's a shitty price, we can start tracking it now and wait till it gets good.

RANDOM NOTE - PS1 LCD SCREENS ARE NOW PENNIED OUT IN THE SYSTEM. K-Marts pennying out is not like others, you will get a "price as marked" message at the register, then its 100$ YMMV at what you can get them for.

PARTIAL NEW LIST (This list is very PARTIAL - I was writing down as much as I could till I ran out of room. There was nothing really earth shattering anyways, and by the time the prices get good we should have a good list.

Some of those $10 games look good for $4 next month hopefully, I'd definetly pick up Sonic Advance 3 and rebuy Spiderman 2 DS (traded it in last year after not giving the game much of a chance) for $4 each. Thanks for the new list

In addition to the games I mentioned above I picked up today:

Dark Cloud 2 (x3) - $2
FFX (x3) - $2
Splinter Cell - $2
Crisis Zone w/Guncon - $18

Smokin hot deals.

Most of those $10 won't be $4 next month. If a game start out the clearance at 39.99, $10 is 75% off and $4 is 90% off. However most of those games started at $20, meaning $10 is 50%, so they will be $8, then $5 then $2 in October

Dave

I was thinking about returing Tiger Woods 2005 for the Gamecube that I bought for $3. However, this new price drop will knock it out of the system (I think). Will I still be able to return it?

Edit: nevermind

Help a idiot out. Does that mean the old games are back to reg price. My K-mart have a lot of Blinx and Blinx2 left which would be great tradebait.

Nope - I will clarify the FAQ also. The old games are still progressing down the clearance chain, or they are stuck at 90%, or they are out of the system. If they are out of the system, then the register will read "Check shelf for price" or something of that nature. THen it is totally YMMV on what price you will get - the majority of employees will just give you the lowest tagged price

Dave

pennied out = Out of System. It shows up on their clearance sheet as .01, but at the register it will scan "Check Shelf for Price". I've never seen anything at KMArt tagged at .01, and don't recall getting anything at that price

Blinx & Blinx 2 aren't that great for trade ins. Blinx doesn't qualify for the $5 bump at GR and without the 3/$10 bonus at eb its gets a $1...

I saw a Hamtaro Ham Ham Games tonight marked at .50 cents! I also saw LOTR The Two Towers for GBA at $10. Oh and I scanned a couple of gamecube games, Robots was $16 & 007 Everything Or Nothing was $10

Blinx2 is $3 + 3/10, makes it a good value for trade bait at $2.

I had a great employee today at a Kmart that was REALLY late in posting the last drops - Baten Kaitos and MGS Twin Snakes were still $7 a few weeks ago. Today I went in and the MGS scan was good now, so I went to look and, unfortunately, that game was gone.

However, I found 2 Baten Kaitos ($3), Zoo Keeper ($2), Sprung ($2.99), Ping Pals ($1.99), Lemony Snicket PS2 ($2), Conflict Desert Storm II ($5), and Wing Commander Prophecy GBA ($3).

Most of those were "check shelf price" games, but he stood there with me and used the hand scanner to look up the last clearance price just like they do at Target. So he priced everything for me that way - it was very nice. He checked a bunch of other games he thought might be on clearance. Now, I'm not entirely sure he actually looked up the last price, or if he just took 90% off the original price because he was explaining the "90% and then out of the system" deal to me. Probably highly unlikely you will find an employee that knowledgeable about the games. Most were still tagged at full price so I'm glad he was there and not someone else . He told me he picked up a bunch of games for $1.50 or so - Syphon Filter, Ty Tasmanian Tiger were 2 I remember him mentioning.

I think he found one more for the new list - Rayman DS was $10. I'm pretty sure that's part of the new drop because he also scanned FF Crystal Chronicles at $12 and Getaway Black Monday at $9 just like MightySlacker's list.

thanks MightySlacker.

now, if only i could check out the few remaining K-marts here in my area.
why is it that everytime I go, I'm surprised to see a Kohls sign rather than a K-mart sign, although I knew that Kohls has been there when some of the K-marts closed down. LOL

Which Kmart was it? Just trying to save me a trip there ;)

Ok 2 Questions. Did old games drop in price, i.e. did a game that was $7 last month drop to $3? Also does anyone know of a thread that has a lot of GS/EB trade in values?

Dawn of Souls is $10? I picked it up today for $12.

Also got Midway Arcade Treasures 2 -> knocked out of system, but lowest clearance tag said $5, still good for EB Trade 3 Get $10. Also got Taiko Drum Master for $15, just for a second drum controller. :whistle2:D

Well K-Mart proves again why they suck. Last night I go into the one local K-Mart that had a decent selection of clearence games 2 weeks ago. They still had a few left, but when I ask for a price check on a few they all ring up for $5. I'm pretty sure this is due to what I stated in post #896 in this thread. It pisses me off when small podunk stores have no clue what is going on and when they see something ring up low like these games they assume there is a glitch. Of course if there is a glitch that means we should manually put in a correct price...cough...sarcasm...cough. Thanks to CAG I'm able to get in on these deals prior to certain idiots screwing up the system.

On a happier note, thanks to all the games I was able to score from K-Mart, along with other games, I racked up $225 in GS store credit. Now I just have to wait for Wii pre-orders and in a few months I'll be a proud owner of one of the best Nintendo systems to date.
