Sept Update: Computer glitch is slowing markdowns - some games are marked up instead of marked down. Example: Feel the Magic should be tagged at $9, sept drop should make it $3, glitch is having it ring up $15. Glitch appears to be YMMV or just on certain games. Some games havent dropped at all. Glitch is on the corporate level - no info on when it will be fixed.

FAQ

Q: Why was this thread created?
A: Because there are multiple threads floating around, and its useful to consolidate. THis one will have the OP constantly updates so you don't have to go digging.

Q: Are these prices YMMV?
A: No, they shouldn't be. I currently have 10 K-Marts in my shopping radius, and they've all been consistent. At one time it was thought that they were YMMV, but I'm pretty sure it was instead employee incompetence at keeping prices updated.

EDIT: Some people are reporting prices that are YMMV, but I am hesitant to mark the deal as such. If you get a different price, it seems to be the exception to the rule, not a true YMMV where it is hit or miss. I'd say these prices are 90% accurate.

Q: An employee said the price was higher than what's on the list.
A: Get the game scanned at the register.

Q: The employee got that price gun and said it was higher than what's on the list.
A: GET THE GAME SCANNED AT THE REGISTER. The gun is incorrect sometimes.

Q: Can I use the price checker thingies?
A: YES! Brilliant idea! They will give you an accurate price. Also, if you have the problem of useless employees not opening the cases for you, you can print off the UPC codes and check them at the price checker.

Q: How can I help?
A: Multiple ways:
- Get a job at K-Mart so we have an inside man
- Post the prices of the games you get
- Write down the prices of games you do not get, then post those too

Q: When are items marked down?
A: Once a month, near the middle of the month.

Q: Does this have anything to do with the weekend 50% off sales K-Mart usually runs?
A: No. While some of these games used to be on the list, this is completely seperate. None of these games are on the 50% list anymore and will not be reduced during these sales.

Q: What if I bought a game at a higher price and it gets reduced? Can I get a price adjustment or a return/rebuy?
A: Chances are VERY SLIM. K-Mart does not do price adjustments on clearance items. A return/rebuy might be possible, but most Kmarts do not employee people with the mental capacity to fully understand this concept.

Q:Can I price check the games without getting into the cases?
A: Yes, thanks to this UPC document from TimTucker. You can scan these at self scanners located in most K-Marts, but note that sometimes prices may not be accurate
http://www.timtucker.com/games/kmart_upcs.doc

Q: What if the price is higher than what's on the list?
A: Then your store has not done markdowns left. Ask them if they have any pending PCLs and perhaps they can do it for you, or just wait it out. Also, you could try a return/rebuy if you have another local store that did the drops. Use the UPC sheet to check this

Q: What if a price doesn't come up? It says "Check shelf tag for pricing".
A: This means that the game was at 90% off, and for some reason it was scheduled to be marked down further. If you have a cool employee, you can get games for cheap. If you have a game with outdated tags, you could be in for a hassle. This is similiar when Target marks things down for salvage.

Q: Are these markdowns YMMV?
A: NO. These are universal nationwide prices. If you arent getting them, its your stores problem and doesnt indicate a larger problem as a whole.

Q: How are things marked down?
A: AFAIK, it can be done manually via gun, or it can be done en masse at the register. If you want further details, we are currently looking for a CAG to take one for the team and get a job at K-Mart to infiltrate and learn their secret methods.

Q: What games will drop further?
A: As a GENERAL RULE, games at 1.00, 1.50, 2.00, 3.00, 4.00 are at 90% off AND WILL NOT DROP FURTHER. Games ending in .99 will drop 2 bucks at a time in random intervals.

Q: What do I do with all these games?
A: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95481

THE OLD GAME LIST - All Games on this list are NOW YMMV. These prices are the lowest reported prices, but many are out of the system and will now depend on the employee you get, the tag on the game and your own negotiating skills:

I just got back from K-mart and they were updating prices while I was there. I talked to the lady and she knew nothing of the list. The scan gun told her to take 90% off of certain games. Here's what I got:

Mega Man Anniversiary Collection: $2 x2
Midway Arcade Treasures 2: $2
Baten Kaitos: $3
Zoo Keeper: $2

I'm up for trading anything, except one copy of Mega Man and Zoo Keeper. And, it seems as if my K-mart is relatively untouched. If anyone wants me to check on some things, and be reasonable about it, I'll do it.

Went to another Kmart today -- not much left and no price update. Apparently they weren't allowed to do any PLC updates until after they were done with inventory (going on today). For those whose stores haven't updated yet, you might ask if they're scheduled to take inventory this week...

Trip wasn't a today wash, though, since I wound up with a free Dragon Quest VIII demo disc.

This messege is a repost from the CC thread!!!!!Anyways today I got in the mail The Recycler (it comes in the mail every Tue)and inside its a Circuit City flyer. Basicly its a short version of the sunday version but in spanish. But it has listed Big Brain Academy for the DS at $9.99. Now Im pretty sure this is a typo so Im not going to take it there but rather to Walmart or Best Buy. So look at ur mail if u get The Recycler with fast food ad coupons and small businesss flyers. I think the circuit city ad only comes to Latino neighborhoods since its in spanish. Im from LA CA. I hope this helps somebody out

Uh...that's nice, but why are you posting this in the KMart thread?

If anybody is interested in trading Big Brain Academyfor DS I could get some extras when I go buy it.
I am looking for

Mario Party 4 Wavebird Bundle
Bubble Bobble GBA
Metal Gear Twin Snakes Gamecube
Shadow Hearts Covenant PS2
Silent Hill 2 Greatest Hits PS2

Went to another KM and their wireless Logitech was $31. Their prices are weird - some games rang up $2 as they should, then others like TMNT: BN rang up for $16.
I got Rumble Roses for 2.50$. Basically a wasted trip =]

Picked up F-Zero GX for $2. The lady was shocked because none of the prices were marked and I was explaining that other K-Mart's had games clearanced. She said she had the list but hasn't gotten to it so she let me loo over the list for anything but the store had pretty much nothing left. Oh well, at least I got something out of this sale since I was mainly going to pick up stuff at CC anyways.

I went to 3 walmarts only one had somestuff on list picked up like 17 items and the antigrav game with camera for 25.00 most expensive thing. I may go back to the other k-mart cause they had a wavebird pack.

walmart???

I picked up:

Baten Kaitos
Wario Ware
MGS: Twin Snakes
3 PS2 Soul Calibur 2s (already gave one away)
2 F-Zero GX
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
Dark Cloud 2
Bloodrayne 2

No luck on any of the controllers, and all the games rang up for $2-3. An interesting thing happened with Mega Man Collection: it was down to a penny, and the clerk told me that they had to ship it back to the warehouse. I'm not sure if they all do this, but be cautious when buying games previously at $2.

I have been able to buy a game for K-Mart at a penny before. N-Sync for Gameboy Color scanned for a penny last year and even though I'm embarassed to admit it, I did buy it (now before everyone laughs, I figured I would use it for trade ins, since it had to get more than a penny)
The Kmart in Fairborn, OH is wiped clean. I didn't see even one game on the list.
Ditto for New Hartford, NY. That place was fucking sad. Didn't look like it was raided or anything, just looks like they've got a pathetic stock in general.

anyone been to the kmart in Redwood City, CA? all the ones around me closed a long time ago so im planning on taking a 30 minute drive to that location. don't want it to be a wasted trip if they are already cleaned out. thanks in advance.

K-Mart in Peru, IL still hasn't updated their prices. I now have 2 F-Zero's I spent $10.65 on, so I'll be returning/rebuying. As if that wasn't somewhat bad enough, somebody bought the last Twin Snakes.

I wanted a twin snake.

My list that I got is.
QTY
AntiGrav With Webcam x1
Enter The Matrix X1
Soul Calibur II x3
Baten Kaitos x1
Wario Ware x1
Blinx x1
Splinter Cell x2
Blood Rayne 2 x1
Riddick x3
& Last Theif Deadly Shadows x1

I didn't see any accesories either.

I just pciked up 2 of the mp4/wavebird bundles. Gamestop gave me $5.60 cash for each of the controllers, and I got $4.99 from Gamerush for one of the games. I think I am going to keep the other.

Is there a better place to trade these in?

Hit up the K-Mart in Brownsburg outside of Indianapolis and they had pretty much nothing. The games were all priced correctly, so that probably had a lot to do with it. Plus, none of the clearance games were in the glass case, they were all sitting out.

Saw Mark of Kri for $21 (no thanks, $9 shipped on Ebay) and some Olympic game for $3 but I don't play sport games.

Kmart in Weirton, WV has a few tiger woods for GC & def Jam Vendetta for PS2 was I think $5, that was about it.

I picked up the last......
Jak II - $2
Shaman King - $2

I have a copy of Thief(which I opened to try out) and Riddick, Supershammy. But, I've never done the trading thing before and don't have a Paypal account or I WOULD trade you.

LOL I may go back to my old ways of going on road trips, like Pooky always busts on me about, but not for penny guides anymore.

I'm after cheap games to pad my collection with.

Oh and for anyone looking for a copy of Riddick for $2, the Moosic Kmart had one last time I was down there. And the Edwardsville Kmart had Rumble Roses(1 copy) in stock.

And UNFORGIVINGPAIN, where is Moon Township, that sounds very familiar for some reason. I'm up in Scranton area.

I thought that I'd hit something good tonight when I went to a BigK that I hadn't been to before, but they hadn't done the latest round of markdowns yet! I had a big stack of games that I was going to take over to a price checker when the woman working in Electronics showed up and offered to price check them for me. And of course, all of them came up at the marked price. Bah.

Trading is fun! Don't need a paypal to trade - only to send/receive money.

And i knew you'd never quit ;)

You know where Matamoras, PA is Pook? They have a Big K there that I 'sense' may be ripe for a CAG plundering. It seems though that I'm always passing that way on the way back from ANOTHER trip with a relative or my one friend from Monticello(I DON'T GAMBLE) and its like 1 am, so nothing but their Super WallyWorld is open at that hour.

And actually, on the way back from Newburgh last week(auto auction that I drove a car to for a relative who has a lot), I saw ALOT more stores and what not further down from the Kmart and Wal*Mart. So, I may have to check out that exit SOON.

I mean, its about 45 mins from me, but to me, thats still not a bad haul.

I just wish I had picked up that FFVII instead of gloating about seeing it till someone DID come and grab it up. I could've made $120 or more in $$$$$ on top of the $14.99 buy price. Oh well, lost opportunity.

As for the Paypal thing, REALLY??? Well, I'd probably use my one friends Paypal acct, since I don't want to give out any bank info to sign up for one.

But thanks for the heads up nonetheless, Pook.

Moon Township, PA is 20 min. north-west of Pittsburgh, but all that is left is a few copys of Metroid zero mission - GBA

Hey IAmTheCheapestGamer, Matamoras, PA Kmart is MY local Kmart. I've already pretty much cleaned it out so don't waste your time going there!;) The only thing I've left there is Soul Calibur II, Eye toy Groove, and some F-zero's for GBA. I also frequently go to Newburgh, Middletown, & Poughkeepsie for work so I hit up any and all video game related stores along the way:) The Poughkeepsie Kmarts in particular had a nice haul for me & I'm going there in a few hours to do one of their inventories. I hope I find some hidden stuff in their backroom!
I've never traded before, but I've been dying to try it out. Teach me how, SuperShammy!
Well IAmTheCheapestGamer, since you asked so politely, let me tell you all about it!

First of all, and BEST of all, you don't need to involve money at all! The great thing about trading is that you're not buying anything, you're just giving eachother stuff, so the only thing you need to pay for is the postage to send them your item. Truly the CHEAPEST thing a gamer can do!

Second of all, there are several ways to ensure you are going about trading safely. There are a number of great websites that the user can sign up to that will track internet sales and exchanges - eBay is the first and most famous of these (remember, eBay allows for negotiations as well as purchases, but people rarely negotiate if the price is right). There are two well-known websites JUST for trading video games, and they are really, really fucking great. http://www.tradegamesnow.com is my personal favorite, and http://www.gametz.com is a little bit more complicated but I think it's more popular. Both require you to sign up (TGN is free, and last time I tried to register on gametz it cost money) and you then fill a list of games that you have, and a list of games you want. You can then search for people who have games you want, and offer them to check your list for stuff you want. The websites then allow you to cofirm that you are initiating a trade, and you can then leave feedback about the other person based on your experience trading. I, for instance, have 20 trades and on all of them I have received positive feedback. It's exactly like ebay in this respect, and you therefore have a record of online trade history (which will work in my favor if I convince someone to trade with me =)

Third of all, trading doesn't really require any outside person, website, or item other than the items to be traded! As long as you can communicate with the other person, and you trust them, trading can be very simple and cost-free. I've met to trade items, and I'm sure many of you have done the same for craigslist purchases. Of course, eBay accounts and TGN/GTZ accounts are great ways to relieve yourself of any doubts.

So lastly, trading is fun and safe! Give it a try.

Also CML.

In fact, EVERYONE HERE SHOULD SIGN UP FOR TRADEGAMESNOW! It's the CAG thing to do.
The Kmart in Fairborn, OH is wiped clean. I didn't see even one game on the list.
Is that the one on Woodman...down the street from the Airway plaza?

I was there a week or two ago and didn't see anything at all worthwhile.
Ditto for New Hartford, NY. That place was fucking sad. Didn't look like it was raided or anything, just looks like they've got a pathetic stock in general.
Hey a CAG near me! I was just at the New Hartford, NY's Kmart the day that you posted this. All they had that was interesting was 3 Metroid Fusions and 1 Hamtaro but I did not pick them up. They had the good stuff though, as I got my wavebirds and PS1 screen from them cheap many months ago, but I think someone seriously raided them during a prior sale. Our Toys R Us suffered the same fate where you could not get much of anything during the 90% off clearance as someone had already picked them clean during the 70% off sale. You're better off trying Syracuse for the sales, as they don't seem to have the hoarders there like we do here. I was always luckier getting stuff at stores there than from here.

Anyway, you may want to go try the Herkimer Kmart. I probably will go this weekend myself. I've not been there in many months and the times I did go was always fruitless, but perhaps I can hit a few garage sales in the area and find some used games. I always seem to have better luck at garage sales than at clearance sales. Like last weekend, I got Guitar Hero in like new shape for $25.00, a boxed Genesis 3 for $5.00, and a boxed woodgrain Atari 2600 for $10.00. JOY! LOL
Am I the only CAGer in Hawaii? I want to know what the kmarts around here look like
Hehe. No, you aren't the only one in Hawaii. Sometimes it feels like it though.

Anyway, I was thinking about going to K-Mart sometime this weekend... I'm quite lazy to go today. I know my sister picked up a Mario Party/Wavebird combo at $17, 2 weeks ago, probably from the Kapolei K-Mart. Going to try and grab another one of those Mario Party/Wavebird bundles this weekend, and hopefully a bunch of other games...

If you go anywhere, let me know if score anything. I've always had bad luck with the K-Mart in Waikele, so you may want to stay away from that store.

Anyone been successful in matching up the cheap games/along with EB/Gamestops highest trade in value games and traded them in (plus the 10$ bonus going on right now)?

Ive printed a list of the Kmart games, along with a list of EB/GS's trade in prices to see what I can do.

Hallelujah! I actually scored pretty good @ Waikele. Nothing left though, I took the cheap ones.I saw those wavebird combos @ kapolei but I don't have a GC and several games but only picked up a few since I was in a rush. They had a lot of stuff there so I may head down todoy.
Don't even try Salt Lake, they had crap. Have you been to the one on Nimitz? Too far for me but let me know if it is worth it.

Yes, just check out the CAGwiki and you will see :D. In particular, I've used Outlaw Golf 2, EyeToy Groove (though the value of that has dropped), the Winnie the Pooh game, and Mega Man Anniversary. There might be a few more I'm forgetting. None will get you alot of credit, but they are good filler for other games you might have (to get sets of 4 for the $10 bonus deal).

My K-Mart finally marked down the games today. I got 5 games, and I went to check out at the electronics register. First game was Bloodrayne 2 for PS2. It was yellow clearanced tagged at $21. When it rings up for $3, the electronics cashier is shocked and studies the price tag on the game. I told her they were just marked down today. She then sees I have a list out as well as a sheet of UPC's (to check if the games dropped in price), and says almost accusingly, "where did you get a list?" I just replied "internet." She then goes to call the front customer service desk and I quickly throw the UPC sheets in my pocket because I was afraid they would think I was doing something with the UPC's, to make the prices so low (I know that's not possible but when you have an employee that can't figure out why the games are so cheap, they could think anything).

Luckily she didn't say anything after that and I was able to get the games. I was also afraid they were going to say they can't sell them at that price and it was a glitch or mistake in the the computer and I wasn't sure how I was going to explain how those are the correct prices but fortunately, it didn't come down to that.

LOL Yoshi, the 'glitch' explanation, that's what I received at the Circuit City in Middletown, NY with one of the 'great deals' games that they'd put a sticker over the original UPC on. It was one of the games that was supposed to normally ring up for $2 or so(Champions Of Norrath, I think).

I gave them a bit of an argument about it, but eh, I gave up in the end and settled for my $8 Narc for Xbox and $2 Psi-Ops.

And Shiningslade, thanks for telling me, before I ended up going up there for nothing. Is there even a Kmart IN Middletown or Newburgh? I'm just curious, as I've seen the Wal*Mart in both towns but never did see a Kmart.

My local Kmarts have a couple $2 games left, a few GC Medal Of Honor games, which I'd never even thought to check, because at the time they weren't on the list.

Weird.. my Kmart didn't drop the prices. Everything was priced 2x as the clearance list. I wonder if it's on an older system or something (it isn't a Sears hybrid store yet, just a normal Big K). I still picked up Warioware and FZero for the GBA, as well as Midway Arcade Treasures 2 (it rang up as $2, but Warioware came up as $7 and FZero as $7). Anybody else had this issue???

hit 4 big kmarts at city of indusrtry, culdehy, montabello and rosemead.

-rosemead and coldehy nothing at all cleaned out.
- montebello I got soul calibur 2 ps2 non gh and baten kaitos (all they had oculd barely see them since they stacked so many other games infront of them)
- industry got soul calibur 2 gh, monster hunter and baten kaitos all they had -.-

if anyone got mmx8, Custom Robo, Metal gear solid Twin snakes, or onimusha 3 id like to trade

Is that the one from Prattville? The last time I checked they had a bunch of Mario Party/Wavebird bundles. I'd check that out.

i got denied for pooh bear game aS trade in in petaluma,ca EB
You know where Matamoras, PA is Pook?
I remember the one in Port Jervis... [tries to remember the Matamoras one--- was that the one they ended up building near Delaware Valley High/Middle/Elementary?

Scary thing? I lived in Mildford, PA for YEARS before moving to the South. ;-) I saw Matamorus and it led me to remembering the K-Mart/Jamesway/Shop Rite area stuff in "Port Jervis" and remembered the fondness for the armpit of the world. ;-)
i got denied for pooh bear game aS trade in in petaluma,ca EB
Denied?? As in they wouldn't take it, or it didn't qualify for the bonus deal? What, do they think it is a 2005 or earlier sports game?

Really, though, there's no reason to deny that. It isn't like they are available in huge quantities and thus flooding EB's right now. Plus it is the kind of thing they can sell easily to parents during a Buy 2 Get 1 free sale. Very wierd - but you need to give us the details of the denial.

^There is no Kmart in Port Scurvis! It must be the Matamoras one that you're thinking of. As for the DV School, Walmart Supercenter is right next door, and the Kmart is right down the road. In between the 2 are Lowes and a Staples in a strip plaza. (They've been building recently)

IAmTheCheapestGamer, we need to get together and do some CAG'ing. I think it would be fun! There is no Kmart in Middletown anymore. It became Burlington Coat Factory. There is one near Newburgh, but unless you know the area it's a little tricky to get to. In other words, it's not right off the interstate!

Now, I've 3 new games to add to the list:
:gba: Midnight Club Street Racing .80
:ps2:World Tour Soccer 2005 $3
:gc:Lemony Snicket $1

And these price changes to confirm:
:ps2:Midway Arcade Treasures 2 $1
:ps2:Star Wars Jedi Starfighter $4
:ps2:Terminator 3 $4
:ps2: Conflict Desert Storm II $5

I scanned a crapload of games today myself just to check prices and they pretty much had the reduced prices on what they had left.
