Sept Update: Computer glitch is slowing markdowns - some games are marked up instead of marked down. Example: Feel the Magic should be tagged at $9, sept drop should make it $3, glitch is having it ring up $15. Glitch appears to be YMMV or just on certain games. Some games havent dropped at all. Glitch is on the corporate level - no info on when it will be fixed.

FAQ

Q: Why was this thread created?
A: Because there are multiple threads floating around, and its useful to consolidate. THis one will have the OP constantly updates so you don't have to go digging.

Q: Are these prices YMMV?
A: No, they shouldn't be. I currently have 10 K-Marts in my shopping radius, and they've all been consistent. At one time it was thought that they were YMMV, but I'm pretty sure it was instead employee incompetence at keeping prices updated.

EDIT: Some people are reporting prices that are YMMV, but I am hesitant to mark the deal as such. If you get a different price, it seems to be the exception to the rule, not a true YMMV where it is hit or miss. I'd say these prices are 90% accurate.

Q: An employee said the price was higher than what's on the list.
A: Get the game scanned at the register.

Q: The employee got that price gun and said it was higher than what's on the list.
A: GET THE GAME SCANNED AT THE REGISTER. The gun is incorrect sometimes.

Q: Can I use the price checker thingies?
A: YES! Brilliant idea! They will give you an accurate price. Also, if you have the problem of useless employees not opening the cases for you, you can print off the UPC codes and check them at the price checker.

Q: How can I help?
A: Multiple ways:
- Get a job at K-Mart so we have an inside man
- Post the prices of the games you get
- Write down the prices of games you do not get, then post those too

Q: When are items marked down?
A: Once a month, near the middle of the month.

Q: Does this have anything to do with the weekend 50% off sales K-Mart usually runs?
A: No. While some of these games used to be on the list, this is completely seperate. None of these games are on the 50% list anymore and will not be reduced during these sales.

Q: What if I bought a game at a higher price and it gets reduced? Can I get a price adjustment or a return/rebuy?
A: Chances are VERY SLIM. K-Mart does not do price adjustments on clearance items. A return/rebuy might be possible, but most Kmarts do not employee people with the mental capacity to fully understand this concept.

Q:Can I price check the games without getting into the cases?
A: Yes, thanks to this UPC document from TimTucker. You can scan these at self scanners located in most K-Marts, but note that sometimes prices may not be accurate
http://www.timtucker.com/games/kmart_upcs.doc

Q: What if the price is higher than what's on the list?
A: Then your store has not done markdowns left. Ask them if they have any pending PCLs and perhaps they can do it for you, or just wait it out. Also, you could try a return/rebuy if you have another local store that did the drops. Use the UPC sheet to check this

Q: What if a price doesn't come up? It says "Check shelf tag for pricing".
A: This means that the game was at 90% off, and for some reason it was scheduled to be marked down further. If you have a cool employee, you can get games for cheap. If you have a game with outdated tags, you could be in for a hassle. This is similiar when Target marks things down for salvage.

Q: Are these markdowns YMMV?
A: NO. These are universal nationwide prices. If you arent getting them, its your stores problem and doesnt indicate a larger problem as a whole.

Q: How are things marked down?
A: AFAIK, it can be done manually via gun, or it can be done en masse at the register. If you want further details, we are currently looking for a CAG to take one for the team and get a job at K-Mart to infiltrate and learn their secret methods.

Q: What games will drop further?
A: As a GENERAL RULE, games at 1.00, 1.50, 2.00, 3.00, 4.00 are at 90% off AND WILL NOT DROP FURTHER. Games ending in .99 will drop 2 bucks at a time in random intervals.

Q: What do I do with all these games?
A: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95481

THE OLD GAME LIST - All Games on this list are NOW YMMV. These prices are the lowest reported prices, but many are out of the system and will now depend on the employee you get, the tag on the game and your own negotiating skills:

**SPECIAL NOTE** - All games at a certain price point seem to drop across the board. So if say one game dropped from $8 to $5, all other $8 games also dropped to $5. I believe this is due to percentages, I will discuss this in the theories section later. Here are some examples for this month:
Denied?? As in they wouldn't take it, or it didn't qualify for the bonus deal? What, do they think it is a 2005 or earlier sports game?

Really, though, there's no reason to deny that. It isn't like they are available in huge quantities and thus flooding EB's right now. Plus it is the kind of thing they can sell easily to parents during a Buy 2 Get 1 free sale. Very wierd - but you need to give us the details of the denial.
i traded rumble rose, midway arcade 2, brute force, and pooh game. well when he got to the pooh bear game, he told me "we cant take this!" i said "why, not its a playstation game" then he went on this rant on how the game is not in the system, blah, blah. i took my loses and went. but mark my words, eb will pay for either a 360 or a WII thanx to this list.. i live near three EB's. and im going to make sure that all my credit is individual. wanna see those pukes squirm when i come in with a wad of $10.00 credit that equals to a sysyem and some games.:booty:

I looked through my receipts - I had thought I traded one at EB but I didn't. I think I did it at Gamecrazy instead. However, I do know that I got a quote for one - so the guy was able to look it up in the system. I think that is the source of the $5 price that I put in the wiki. So if it didn't scan right he should have looked it up by name. You can try it at another store I'm sure (or just when a different guyis in that store).

I'm going to have to print some UPC's I guess as the last Kmart I went to wasn't updated yet. I just hate going in there for nothing - but it is better to have a page to scan than track down someone and have them open the cases.
That's really weird.. I'm starting to wonder if this latest drop is West Coast only
It's not.

Sweet. How do you wanna do this? I work a lot but I could probably manage to meet you somewhere next time you are in/near Kent and run back here. Appreciate it.

I traded the GC pooh game last week, 2 of them actually Ebgames and Gamestop and it was 5 bucks nefore the 10 dlls bonus.

Hiyah, I'm a newbie (just joined a few days ago). I was so pysched when I found out about this thread. I went to the only Kmart close enough to where I live only to find out it had been picked clean. So if possible can anyone pick up/sell me these games if they happen to find them at a Kmart?

MGS: Twin Snakes
Dark Cloud 2
Mega Man Aniversary Collection

Damn this blows!! Why didn't the markdowns hit my Kmart! I'm all about some $2-$3 games!!! I might have to drive to Auburn this weekend for this

Columbus still has some stuff here and there, fyi. The Macon Rd and Airport Thru-Way stores have way more than the Milgen Rd Store.

The Airport Thru-Way store had *TONS* of the Mario Party/Wavebirds.

I picked up 2 like 2 weeks ago at Milgen Rd for $17 and now they're 7, so I'll be returning those or PMing... grrr... :whistle2:/

Yeah, it's weird.. my store has a couple left as well, but they're still coming up as $17. Almost everything on the list is double the price at my local Kmart, as if they didn't download a price update into their systems or something. Now I know that they went through somewhere else in my region, so it has to be something in particular with my store. Very odd indeed..

Any Kmart CAG's out there that maybe know what's going on? On a side note, my store actually got a Oddworld: SW in for Xbox, but it's ringing up at $29.99 instead of the old $14.99 markdown price from before.

It was explained earlier in the thread, but basically each store has to scan in the new prices from a sheet of barcodes or some such. If they haven't done that, then the prices won't change. Locally, there are some stores that have activated the June drops and some that haven't. At one local store, I asked about when the latest price drops would be entered, and a manager was listening - he seemed pissed that I know how the system works, and that I was waiting for the lower price. When he asked how I know, I just said "the internet." He gave me a disgusted look and walked away. :D

Thanks for the info!!! I'm on hold with my store now. They were really taken off guard by the question. Supposedly there's one electronics worker who's been there a week, and a manager explained that "the downloads are done automatically in their computer, and the lady that does them has already finished them for the day." Sounds like a crock of shit to me... count on Prattville to be lazy with things (although not as bad as Montgomery) :)

The Kmart (BigK?) in Scotts Valley, CA is moving, so the place is a mess.
They had a few games stacked in a corner and they were marked down.
Some more were in a glass cabinet, so I asked the lady to unlock them for scanning. Just the dregs - here's what I saw:

SRS Racing (XBOX) $3
F-Zero GP Legend (GBA) $3
Metroid Zero Mission ($3)
DS Mobile Kit (11 items) $6
GBA Big Deal Pak (12 items w/ PacMan Collection game) $6.65
Winnie The Pooh (PS) $1

There was a WWF XBOX game too, which was $3.
I need to find some more Kmarts around here - maybe SJ?
If anyone has seen what's over there, please post. Thx!

Is there anyway to know if your kmart has a game in stock using the upc's? Mine has a bunch of games but they are stacked one behind another and I don't wanna ask the clerk to look through their entire shelves. If I scan the upc, will it show if they have it in stock?

No.

Those along with BLOODRAYNE 2, Tiger Woods, Eye Toy (alone), and Eye Groove (alone) and the GBA "movies" are all over this area. One store had a handful of Mega Man Battle Network 4, SRS, etc.... another had several Spider-Mans... but I can't imagine any reason to get them.

I was able to score a SOCOM w/ headset for $4 today. ;-)

Also, the $17 Mario/Wavebird I mentioned previously was a few weeks ago before it dropped to 7... which is, depressing since even $17 is a sweet deal.

Haven't been following this deal. That being said... is it a crap shoot whether your local K-Mart will have some decent games in stock for the said prices... or have must CAG come up unsuccesfully? I'm asking this because my local K-Mart is out of the way from anywhere I ever go.

My Kmart sucks the balls of a geriatric camel... after the "supposed" update, they still have everything at double price. Talk about lazy staff.. I had to call 3 times just to get someone to answer without holding for 5 minutes.

What it comes down to is if the prices are accurate or not. I stopped a K-Mart I had never been to before earlier in the week and all they had was F-Zero for GBA which was correctly tagged at $3. A store that has correctly tagged games will almost always have nothing as all the employees, and customers who aren't even aware of all these cheap games will buy them because they see a game for $2 or $3 and will buy it just because it is so cheap.

If it's not that far out of the way, I would still try but if it's really a pain to get to, then I would go through the list and see if there was anything you really wanted to make it worthwhile for stopping at K-Mart

It's definitely a crap shoot. That said, none of the 3 stores I've checked in my area came up "empty" (and one store even told me some "guys" cleaned them out over a week before I did).

The closest thing to empty was the store with FZero and Eye Groove (which weren't in the other stores and were games I wanted, especially since I picked up the Eye Toy and didn't have any games). They did have the Mario/Controller packages which I'm very fond of as well.
Is there anyway to know if your kmart has a game in stock using the upc's? Mine has a bunch of games but they are stacked one behind another and I don't wanna ask the clerk to look through their entire shelves. If I scan the upc, will it show if they have it in stock?
The clerks are usually pretty cool about letting you just do your thing after they open the case for you. Just let them know you'll be taking awhile because you'll be looking through the whole thing and they usually are totally cool with it or are so disinterested in hanging around they just leave you to your business. Plus, the cases where games are hidden behind one another is where you find the good stuff everyone forgot about -

I found TWO unopened copies of FFVII for the Playstation, for instance, $15 each. They go for upwards of $60 on eBay, and I've sold them both for a $100+ profit. Who woulda thought? =)
Damn. Your Kmart still carries PS1 games?!
Inside the glass case in the corner of one shelf is a small plastic tub with 7 or 8 sports titles from the late 90's and maybe one copy of Syphon Filter. That's the extent of their PS collection though (now that I've taken the two good items).
Anyway, you may want to go try the Herkimer Kmart. I probably will go this weekend myself. I've not been there in many months and the times I did go was always fruitless, but perhaps I can hit a few garage sales in the area and find some used games. I always seem to have better luck at garage sales than at clearance sales. Like last weekend, I got Guitar Hero in like new shape for $25.00, a boxed Genesis 3 for $5.00, and a boxed woodgrain Atari 2600 for $10.00. JOY! LOL
Let me know how you make out. The trip from Utica to Herkimier leaves me plenty of opportunities to get lost, so I'd like to know that's it's worth the effort before I venture out :)

As for Syracuse...considering the awful gas mileage my truck gets, I don't think it would be much of a sale after everything I'd blow going out there and back ;)

I went into a KMART to try my luck. I figured I'd pick one game off the list and have it price scanned. This KMART had all the games locked in a glass case so you can't see the prices and must get a salesperson to assist. I had the salesperson scan the price of Red Dead Revolver for XBOX. The game had a price sticker of $49.95. The salesperson scanned the game and said the price was $49.95. The game is suppose to sell for $2.00 according to the list on the first page of this thread. How can this be? I figured this was a lost cause and left the store. How do you get the low prices? Also, are any games on the list stickered with the low price or do you have to have all games scanned by the clerk to find out the actual price?

Did they scan it with the pricing gun or at the register (and if it was at the register, did you see the price on the screen attachment?).

It's possible that he scanned it with the price gun and saw it was $2 and told you it was $49.95 so he could buy it for himself.

Depending on the store, the games may or may not be labeled with the correct price.

I can personally confirm that Red Dead Revolver is indeed $2 in at least two different K-Mart stores, heh. I'd say you have an f'ed up K-Mart or he's just keeping it for himself.

Although, I did go to a store today and found Star Wars: Obi-Wan. It should have rang up $4, but it was ringing up $25 (he was using the price gun). Now he was using the price gun for all my other clearance games. They would come up the older price (ex: F-Zero GX comes up $5). I explained to him about other K-Marts in the area with different prices. He checks something in the system and on the gun. He realized the prices should be updated, but aren't. He goes into the system to fix it. He then manually scanned all the clearance games I got him to get out, wrote down the correct prices on them, etc. He was the best K-mart employee I've ever seen. :)

It was weird about Obi-Wan, though. He said it was ringing up $25 with no indication that there was a price drop he had missed (like with the others).

Sears Essentials is basically the same thing as K-Mart right? Because I scanned a copy of F-Zero and it came up as 17.95.

As a follow-up to my earlier post, the games I mentioned were all marked with a yellow "clearence" sticker and $12. But they rang up $3.

I wish I had gotten there sooner - I'm sure there was more than today's stash.

that sucks, visited a new kmart today but red dead revolver (xbox) and lemony snicket (ps2) said that there was no price in the system so he couldn't sell it to me...grr

any way to combat this and get him to sell it to me?

Lemony Snicket did the same for me yesterday when scanned at the register, but the store manager had scanned it with a price gun and did something and told the cashier it should be $1.

BTW Mario Golf for Gamecube scanned $9.99 for me yesterday.

Hmmm, wonder what he did. Any idea?

It depends on if they've updated their clearance prices at the store. I'm waiting on mine to do the same.

Is the Prattville store still pretty well stocked?

No it is different. They have different sales/clearances. Sears Essentials had some DS games for $20 a few months ago that were full price at K-Mart for example.

I went to my local Kmart last night and found 2 copies of Zoo Keeper and 1 copy of Red Dead Revolver. Neither would show a price when scaned at the register. The salesperson offered to sell them to me for $9.99. I said no thanks.

Too bad, I really wanted Zoo Keeper for $2.

It was an older lady who scanned Red Dead Revolver for me at the register. She said it scanned at $49.95? I doubt she was trying to cheat me and keep it for herself because she wasn't a young kid. I might go back and have a few more games scanned to see what happens. Are the games behind locked glass windows in all Kmarts or do some Kmarts have the games on the floor racks where you can look at them for yourself? Also, do you print out the upc bar code page and scan the codes on the printout yourself? Or do you need an employee to scan the codes on the printout?

It depends on the store, some K-Marts have the cheap games out, some keep all games locked in the case.

You can scan the UPC printout at the price checker machine yourself

Wrong thread, wrong forum...just wrong everything. C'mon, Knight Rider? LOL.

Yay, I just picked up the last copy of F-Zero GX for 2 dollars today. I thought Warioware Touched was on clearence, but it still 35 dollars.

That's eerie, because that's the exact thing that happened to me this afternoon, with the same games (2 copies of Zoo Keeper and 1 Red Dead Revolver). I had a slightly happier ending. The clerk called the manager over, and they were both clueless. I told them I had purchased Zoo Keeper at another store for $2, and knew RDR was $2 as well. The manager asked the clerk what the cheapest Xbox game they had was, and the clerk thought for a minute and said "$14.99". The manager turned to me and said he'd sell RDR for $7; I said forget it. Then he asked the clerk what other DS games were going for, and the clerk said he didn't know, so the manager said he'd sell it for "a couple of bucks", so at least I got Zoo Keeper at the correct price. The funny thing was, I also bought an Eyetoy Groove that had a price sticker of $3 on it, and scanned correctly, so a $2 Xbox game shouldn't have been that far-fetched for them.

Oh well, with today's trip, I've been to all the Kmarts in Baltimore, plus Greenbelt, Crofton, Gaithersburg, Hyattsville, and Frederick. I'm calling it quits.

WarioWare for GC is clearance, not Touched.

Same KMart. (Greenbelt) :)

I hate the K-Mart store locator... there was a Big K in Kitty Hawk or Kill Devil Hills, NC, one of those places, and I didn't realize it till the last day I was on vacation. Would have stopped by at some point if I had discovered it sooner. Ah well.
