Sept Update: Computer glitch is slowing markdowns - some games are marked up instead of marked down. Example: Feel the Magic should be tagged at $9, sept drop should make it $3, glitch is having it ring up $15. Glitch appears to be YMMV or just on certain games. Some games havent dropped at all. Glitch is on the corporate level - no info on when it will be fixed.

FAQ

Q: Why was this thread created?
A: Because there are multiple threads floating around, and its useful to consolidate. THis one will have the OP constantly updates so you don't have to go digging.

Q: Are these prices YMMV?
A: No, they shouldn't be. I currently have 10 K-Marts in my shopping radius, and they've all been consistent. At one time it was thought that they were YMMV, but I'm pretty sure it was instead employee incompetence at keeping prices updated.

EDIT: Some people are reporting prices that are YMMV, but I am hesitant to mark the deal as such. If you get a different price, it seems to be the exception to the rule, not a true YMMV where it is hit or miss. I'd say these prices are 90% accurate.

Q: An employee said the price was higher than what's on the list.
A: Get the game scanned at the register.

Q: The employee got that price gun and said it was higher than what's on the list.
A: GET THE GAME SCANNED AT THE REGISTER. The gun is incorrect sometimes.

Q: Can I use the price checker thingies?
A: YES! Brilliant idea! They will give you an accurate price. Also, if you have the problem of useless employees not opening the cases for you, you can print off the UPC codes and check them at the price checker.

Q: How can I help?
A: Multiple ways:
- Get a job at K-Mart so we have an inside man
- Post the prices of the games you get
- Write down the prices of games you do not get, then post those too

Q: When are items marked down?
A: Once a month, near the middle of the month.

Q: Does this have anything to do with the weekend 50% off sales K-Mart usually runs?
A: No. While some of these games used to be on the list, this is completely seperate. None of these games are on the 50% list anymore and will not be reduced during these sales.

Q: What if I bought a game at a higher price and it gets reduced? Can I get a price adjustment or a return/rebuy?
A: Chances are VERY SLIM. K-Mart does not do price adjustments on clearance items. A return/rebuy might be possible, but most Kmarts do not employee people with the mental capacity to fully understand this concept.

Q:Can I price check the games without getting into the cases?
A: Yes, thanks to this UPC document from TimTucker. You can scan these at self scanners located in most K-Marts, but note that sometimes prices may not be accurate
http://www.timtucker.com/games/kmart_upcs.doc

Q: What if the price is higher than what's on the list?
A: Then your store has not done markdowns left. Ask them if they have any pending PCLs and perhaps they can do it for you, or just wait it out. Also, you could try a return/rebuy if you have another local store that did the drops. Use the UPC sheet to check this

Q: What if a price doesn't come up? It says "Check shelf tag for pricing".
A: This means that the game was at 90% off, and for some reason it was scheduled to be marked down further. If you have a cool employee, you can get games for cheap. If you have a game with outdated tags, you could be in for a hassle. This is similiar when Target marks things down for salvage.

Q: Are these markdowns YMMV?
A: NO. These are universal nationwide prices. If you arent getting them, its your stores problem and doesnt indicate a larger problem as a whole.

Q: How are things marked down?
A: AFAIK, it can be done manually via gun, or it can be done en masse at the register. If you want further details, we are currently looking for a CAG to take one for the team and get a job at K-Mart to infiltrate and learn their secret methods.

Q: What games will drop further?
A: As a GENERAL RULE, games at 1.00, 1.50, 2.00, 3.00, 4.00 are at 90% off AND WILL NOT DROP FURTHER. Games ending in .99 will drop 2 bucks at a time in random intervals.

Q: What do I do with all these games?
A: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95481

THE OLD GAME LIST - All Games on this list are NOW YMMV. These prices are the lowest reported prices, but many are out of the system and will now depend on the employee you get, the tag on the game and your own negotiating skills:
Not that I care, but what happened to the shaq fu filter....?
Doesn't work when it's fuck instead of fuck. They didn't apply it to capital letters I guess.

I found a store that still had several of the Metroid/Wavebird combos, but they rang up for $40(I checked each one). I had bought 2 Wavebird/MP4 combos at this same store just a couple weeks ago and they were properly clearanced.

However, I did buy Dark Cloud 2 and Bloodrayne 2 for $3 each.

Have a great story to share with all of you. So I go to the one local K-Mart with some of the listed games today to grab a few for myself and a couple for trade. Here is what I wanted:

SSX3 (PS2)
Lemony Snickett (Xbox)
ESPH NHL 2K5
Eyetoy Groove
Backyard Wrestling 2 (Xbox)

I left the store with only 2 games, Eyetoy Groove and Backyard Wrestling 2. Now to fill in the gap with the rest of the story. Well I get someone to open the case and it ends up being a girl in training. After getting the games she says she can check me out in layaway. I'm back there for about 3-5 minutes until finally another worker decides to walk the games up to the front. She goes to the jewelry register and begins to scan the games. My wife informs her they are on clearance for 90% off. As I expected from previous visits some of the games did not ring up.

So the lady goes to customer service where she asks another employee(Darian) for help. Now the first time I bought games a week and a half ago Darian being the awesome cashier he is manually entered the prices after seeing other titles ringing up on clearance. This time however Darian calls the manager, but who comes instead, some idiotic woman with the scan gun. Now I know that the gun projected the clearance prices due to past price checks from previous visits (PSONE Screen) and because she thought these looked suspicious she phoned the manager at the CS desk.

She then comes back to the jewelry with the following bullshit line, "We cannot sell these games under $5 it is our policy". Well this is where my wife finally had had it and asks to see K-Mart's corporate policy. Now the woman appears confused, not thinking someone would call her out. She heads back over to CS and pages the manager and in a few minutes he is up front. Once there we explain to him that we have purchased games in the past week and the games were given to us at the clearence prices. He then tries to explain to us, as if we're idiots, that there is no way they can sell them at that price because they would loose money when trying to sell them back to distributors.

So he says whoever sold them did not know what they were doing and should not have sold them to begin with. My option now is to pay $5 ea. for the 3 titles that did not ring up and $4.50 + tax for the 2 that did. For those who didn't catch what I just said, I could pay $4.50 for 2 games and they would be fine with losing the money on those, but it didn't matter because they placed the new "imaginary" $5 price on the other 3.

Now I understand the whole thing with K-Mart losing money with clearance titles, but don't fucking BS me or my wife. From the looks of it no one knew what was going on. They kept naming other employees names and asking if we knew some Jacob fella. I guess Jacob is the all knowing person. Not one of the employees knew there was even a clearance sale, which is sad due to the fact there are signs posted in electronics. In the end I got two more games and will try another day to get some more when the idiot brigade isn't working.

Wow, so I went in to pick up an extra copy of Soul Cali 2 to trade in at EB for their "3 games get 10 extra credit" deal, and my friend who works there said that they'd been cleaned out the day before. That's fine...a hoarder is one thing, I'm used to them at this point...but apparently they were some guys who worked at a local game shop...and they're just putting them back on their shelf as new titles and charging full price. I don't know if it's just me...but that's fucked up on so many levels in my mind.

Anyway, if the guys who work at the Game Craze here in small ass Cabot, Arkansas read this, I'd just like you to know that I hope you rot in the bowels of hell.

What really irks me about this, is that apparently the only reason they knew about it was that another CAG had gone in there bragging about the sales. And thus these guys bragged to my friend. And now I'm out of a copy of Soul Calibur 2 :( I'm gonna go in my little corner and cry now ^.^

I never tell the employees where i read the information, if they ask how i know i say "i read it on the internet" or "i heard it from a friend". Most are too stupid or just dont care enough to go searching for the information themselves so it usually works.

Oh yeah i know a game store in a mall here that does the same thing, the last time i went in there they were charging 35$ for a used and open copy of metroid prime pinball ds. I know they pick up games on clearance at other stores and put them on their shelves and sell them at full price, hopefully people are not stupid enough to fall for this, although at christmas time lots of people fall for it. I found out this store also has an ebay business so i know i wont ever find anything worthwhile to buy in it, and its in the same mall as an ebgames (which has lower prices than the store i am talking about!)

Its funny how the small local shops are the dishonest ones around here since most of them buy their stock on clearance and then put it on the shelves at full price.

I have to laugh at the people crying over not being able to find a 'spare' copy of this game or that SOLELY for the purpose of trading into EB/GS, while some of us can't even find one or two of the games we want(TO PLAY) without having to trade on here or buy used.

Then, they whine about it when someone else 'cleans out' a Kmart by them, when they didn't buy all the games they wanted for whatever purpose.

Game hoarders are a plague on gamers everywhere. Why buy a game when you're only going to trade it in?? Don't get me wrong, I may well be doing that SOON myself with Baten Kaitos and the other 2 Gamecube games I bought cheap.

But not before at least playing them for a bit.

What do the rest of you think??? Are game hoarders, who are only buying games to swap into EB/GS a bad thing??
Are game hoarders, who are only buying games to swap into EB/GS a bad thing??
Well, im buying games to get clean new cases AND trade into GS.

LOL Pook, and as I've said before, you could do that first part easier by simply befriending someone at your local Blockbuster. Well, unless you need some Gamecube cases, as the manager there told me they can't put the used games in their rental cases right for the GC ones.

I should take in my copy of Geist and the other GC games I bought cheap to GS/EB disc only, just to see what kind of look someone who does that gets.

i think they are used to that...just look on the shelves at all the generic cases for games...and new games at that...they should actually be a little stricter on that since those games will sell last if at all...i just traded in 2 PSP games without the cases...why? so i can switch it out when i buy a used psp game that is loaded with stickers...

Well no, I mean on some little level, I think that yes...me grabbing an extra copy just to help fill in my 3rd slot on my trade in deal is a bit lame for me to do. See, that's one thing. But calling it a brand new game and charging some random 8 year old who walks in and doesn't know any better 20 dollars for it...that's something else.

Flipping, basically what I'm doing in this CAG context...that's one thing to me. I'll be getting a buck fifty for my efforts before bonus...these guys are getting twenty dollars. Just using this to stock their own shop. For some reason, in my mind, that's a hell of a lot worse. It's like saying "Well you're doing something bad too...a sin's a sin." To me, it's like I'm saying "god damn it"...while they're killing and raping someone. Sure, both sins...but the same? Hardly to me.

Again, I'll restate that yes, I did flip a few copies of cheap games at Kmart to EB/GS. I'm sure a lot of us did. I don't see us selling them for new though. Isn't that about as "wtfbbq" ish as straight-up returning them to Walmart and commiting return fraud? Same value, at least. Plus, if this little town had to worry about tons of CAGs coming in and scoping it out, fine...I wouldn't touch an extra copy. This is freaking an 8,000 populated small town, in Arkansas...where I would've never thought another CAG would step foot. And those guys, I don't call them CAGs anyway. But hey, you can think I'm just whining and crying about being done wrong. I guess I'm such a terrible person to call out someone who joined CAG for the sole purpose of restocking their private store's inventory. But perchance we just don't see eye to eye on this topic. That's cool, man.

I thinks its one thing when you buy 4 copies of a $2 game like Soul Calibur at K-mart and another when you buy 5-10 copies at something like say Wild Arms 4 at the 8.96 sale at CC. On the K-mart side of things, these games have been on clearance forever and could have been picked up at discounted prices for months on end in many cases, while a sale like CC you are hoarding games that have been on sale for the last 36 hours (and in some cases shouldn't be on sale until next week lol). People have had plenty of opportunities to pick up these games on clearance at K-Mart, thats why they have been reduced to 90% off!

Kapolei K-Mart still has the Metroid/Wavebird package, but these rang up at $19.99 today. As others have said, looks like the Hawaii stores are cleaned out of anything worthwhile.

Ya know, I really never bothered to check this thread. Huge mistake. I am a huge gaming freak AND I have a K-mart 5-10 min within walking distance. Plus, I normally go into it or pass by it everyday.

Oh well, tomorrow is going to be an awesome day.

Picked up two FFXI with HDD for 10 bucsk each today

After checking 3 kmarts, finally got em

One for my Girlfriend, and trading the other to a friend for FFXI Online for 360 and a Guitar Hero bundle for ps2 =D

I picked these up a few weeks ago:

Bloodrayne (PS2) - $2
Full Spectrum Warrior (XB) - $2
F-Zero GX (GC) - $4 for 2 of them
Hamtaro (GBA) - $3
Soul Calibur 2 (PS2) - $2
Wing Commander (GBA) - $3
I got the eyetoy camera only price checked at the register and it rang up $30...
Really? I bought 2 Eyetoys the day the drops were confirmed and they rang up at $6 each.

I was hoping that I could find the FFXI w/HD at mine, because its such a ghetto as store, but they didn't. They didn't even have anything decent from the list. Only thing I say that looked like a good deal was a 32MB memory stick duo for 7 bucks on clearance. But alas, I don't have a PSP.

Out of curiousity, I saw a controller bundled with Unreal Championship II. Are those on clearance as well. If they're on the list, I must be as blind as a bat

Just spent $50 on clearance stuff at one store. The clerk told me that someone had come in earlier and spent $1700 on clearance =0

Ugh...my KMart, which is otherwise shockingly ghetto-fabulous, is apparently all over their video game section with a fine-tooth comb. I've found _zero_ clearance titles available in their stock, and I live in a town where I have had more or less free run of things like the CC sale so I dont think it's other CAG's. To make matters worse, the next closest KMart is some 90 minutes away.

Anyway, I'd LOVE to work a cash deal with some benevolent CAG with access to the following Gamecube titles...

Baten Kaitos - $3
Spyro: Hero's Tale - $2
Star Fox Adventures - $2
Viewtiful Joe 2 - $1.50

And I know this is a stretch, but...

Mario Party 4/Wavebird - $7 :)

Shoot me a PM if any of you have the time or willingness to help a fellow CAG out. Thanks!
Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow 15.99 at k-mart
Whoa! Ok, I'm finally going to have to go around to my K-marts and see if they've got one! You can't imagine how happy I'll be if I can get a copy for that price! Thanks!
Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow 15.99 at k-mart
.........what?

Son of a bitch, I passed K-Mart twice today. I'm suddenly greatful I didn't drop $35 for it on bestbuy.com. I'm gonna have to call tomorrow to verify that. Thanks for the heads up!

made a k-mart run today, and usually its a bust. BUT they must of gotten a shipment of old stuff because i picked up(1) MARIO PARTY WIRLESS COMBO $7.00,and PS2 HARDRIVE $10.00. they also had metroid wireless combo $19.99(2), 1 ps2 hard drive left, PS2 time crisis gun game $35.00(5), some bongo game for the ps2 $25.00.this was all in N.CALI(Petaluma). thanks to the CAG GOD'S for looking out for me today!!! :applause: :bouncy:

Went to 3 K-marts here. Didn't see any of the obvious stuff like the controller packs and FFXI bundle. None them even carried any PSOne merchandise anymore, so that was a no go. And everything was behind a glass case, so I couldn't root through any of the games to actually find anything. And somehow I don't think the store clerk would've let me anyway. I don't like K-mart :\
We have 2-3 Baten Kaitos here in Dickson City, PA. The Kmart just a little bit off I-81 has a bunch left, since I only grabbed ONE to try out.
No, they don't. I went on Saturday to pick one up for a friend, and they were all gone...

Glad I bought mine a few weeks ago.
Does anyone know if they have the PS2 version of this game for $2 as well?
Yes, it's $2 for all 3 systems.(PS2,GC,Xbox)

$42 in games from a store i had never been too = $115 in credit w/ 2 copies of shadow hearts covenant left over for myself :) Not too bad for 20 minutes work

I've been looking for Shadow Hearts Covenant myself. Care to work out a deal or a trade? :)

eau your private messages are full so i cant send u a pm. Got a tradelist? I only have 1 left and i'm not sure if i want to trade it or not. I'll probably be keeping it for myself
Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow 15.99 at k-mart
Well, we know some of the KMart prices are YMMV, but I just had a Castlevania DS scanned today and it came up at $35.

Anyone else get a $16 :ds: Castlevania or see the "scan sheet" with that price?

I returned a copy of Shadow Hearts Covenant to the Kmart in Moosic, PA about a week and a half ago, EAU. If you could get some local CAGer to go grab it for you(if its still there), it'd probably have been dropped to the $2 price or whatever it is on the list nowadays.

I would say I'd go buy it again and work out a deal, but I think the clerk there is annoyed at me, as I almost always forgot my list to know which games were on sale upfront and had her PC alot of stuff.

You aren't a true 'IAmTheCheapestGamer' unless you memorize the list before you go

found some original Sony brand PSP batteries on clearance for $8...seemed like a good deal so i grabbed some...not a game but i figured its worth mentioning

Will work something out for it :bouncy:

LOL Pook, I've had my one friend print up copies of the list for me, so I can just take one of those with me.

We're going to NJ to Hot Dog Johnnies for the 4th, hopefully, so I may well stop by some of the stores near there, so hopefully I'll have some luck.
