Sept Update: Computer glitch is slowing markdowns - some games are marked up instead of marked down. Example: Feel the Magic should be tagged at $9, sept drop should make it $3, glitch is having it ring up $15. Glitch appears to be YMMV or just on certain games. Some games havent dropped at all. Glitch is on the corporate level - no info on when it will be fixed.

FAQ

Q: Why was this thread created?
A: Because there are multiple threads floating around, and its useful to consolidate. THis one will have the OP constantly updates so you don't have to go digging.

Q: Are these prices YMMV?
A: No, they shouldn't be. I currently have 10 K-Marts in my shopping radius, and they've all been consistent. At one time it was thought that they were YMMV, but I'm pretty sure it was instead employee incompetence at keeping prices updated.

EDIT: Some people are reporting prices that are YMMV, but I am hesitant to mark the deal as such. If you get a different price, it seems to be the exception to the rule, not a true YMMV where it is hit or miss. I'd say these prices are 90% accurate.

Q: An employee said the price was higher than what's on the list.
A: Get the game scanned at the register.

Q: The employee got that price gun and said it was higher than what's on the list.
A: GET THE GAME SCANNED AT THE REGISTER. The gun is incorrect sometimes.

Q: Can I use the price checker thingies?
A: YES! Brilliant idea! They will give you an accurate price. Also, if you have the problem of useless employees not opening the cases for you, you can print off the UPC codes and check them at the price checker.

Q: How can I help?
A: Multiple ways:
- Get a job at K-Mart so we have an inside man
- Post the prices of the games you get
- Write down the prices of games you do not get, then post those too

Q: When are items marked down?
A: Once a month, near the middle of the month.

Q: Does this have anything to do with the weekend 50% off sales K-Mart usually runs?
A: No. While some of these games used to be on the list, this is completely seperate. None of these games are on the 50% list anymore and will not be reduced during these sales.

Q: What if I bought a game at a higher price and it gets reduced? Can I get a price adjustment or a return/rebuy?
A: Chances are VERY SLIM. K-Mart does not do price adjustments on clearance items. A return/rebuy might be possible, but most Kmarts do not employee people with the mental capacity to fully understand this concept.

Q:Can I price check the games without getting into the cases?
A: Yes, thanks to this UPC document from TimTucker. You can scan these at self scanners located in most K-Marts, but note that sometimes prices may not be accurate
http://www.timtucker.com/games/kmart_upcs.doc

Q: What if the price is higher than what's on the list?
A: Then your store has not done markdowns left. Ask them if they have any pending PCLs and perhaps they can do it for you, or just wait it out. Also, you could try a return/rebuy if you have another local store that did the drops. Use the UPC sheet to check this

Q: What if a price doesn't come up? It says "Check shelf tag for pricing".
A: This means that the game was at 90% off, and for some reason it was scheduled to be marked down further. If you have a cool employee, you can get games for cheap. If you have a game with outdated tags, you could be in for a hassle. This is similiar when Target marks things down for salvage.

Q: Are these markdowns YMMV?
A: NO. These are universal nationwide prices. If you arent getting them, its your stores problem and doesnt indicate a larger problem as a whole.

Q: How are things marked down?
A: AFAIK, it can be done manually via gun, or it can be done en masse at the register. If you want further details, we are currently looking for a CAG to take one for the team and get a job at K-Mart to infiltrate and learn their secret methods.

Q: What games will drop further?
A: As a GENERAL RULE, games at 1.00, 1.50, 2.00, 3.00, 4.00 are at 90% off AND WILL NOT DROP FURTHER. Games ending in .99 will drop 2 bucks at a time in random intervals.

Q: What do I do with all these games?
A: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95481

THE OLD GAME LIST - All Games on this list are NOW YMMV. These prices are the lowest reported prices, but many are out of the system and will now depend on the employee you get, the tag on the game and your own negotiating skills:

**SPECIAL NOTE** - All games at a certain price point seem to drop across the board. So if say one game dropped from $8 to $5, all other $8 games also dropped to $5. I believe this is due to percentages, I will discuss this in the theories section later. Here are some examples for this month:

Picked up The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker for $8.00 and Sonic Advance 3 for $6.00. I'm planning on picking up Metroid Zero Mission and Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour in the next few days. The Kmart I went to really didn't have much in the ways of GBA or GCN games. :(

Funny thing is that WW rang up as "Gamepak" while the other rang up by its full name. Sounds like they're trying to get rid of it if they don't have it listed by its title.

Looks like K-mArt is definitely trying to clear shelf space for the new systems. I was in 2 K-Marts in Baltimore today and both had a large bin of reduced games on the counter. I found:

Pikmin 2 $6
Wind Waker $8
Fina Fantasy 1 and 2 $8
Time Crisis 3 with Guncon $18
Pokemon Fire Red $17
Pokemon Leaf Green $17
Ace Combat 4 $6
Super Monkey Ball 2 $6
Mario Party 6 $20
Mario Golf (GameCube) $8
EyeToy AntiGrav with Camera $15

I went to grab Metroid Zero Mission today. Unfortunately, it was packed together with a GBA Spyro game and had a sticker price of $24.99. The clerk scanned it with her gun and it rang up for the said price and wouldn't check with the register unless I was going to buy it.

Anyone have any Kmarts doing the same thing and know if it's that exact price or the price listed in this thread?

^Only the single game is clearanced out, but it's one from the old list so it's out of the system now as it should come up as a penny. (in their gun) The register will say check shelf label.

As for some new finds not yet on the list and some prices that are wrong:
:gba: Finding Nemo $7
:gba: Finding Nemo 2 $6
:gba: Bomberman NES Classic $3
:gba: Mario Pinball $8
:gba: Banjo Pilot $6
:gba: Midway's Greatest Hits $1 (may be YMMV as it was on the old list)
:gba: Zelda II Adventure Of Link NES Classic $4 or $5 (Can't remember which)
:gba: Snood $4
:gba: Power Ranger DT $7
:ps2: Devil May Cry Non GH $5.99
:ps2: Galactic Wrestling $5.99
:ps2: ESPN Xgames Skateboarding $5.99
:ps2: ESPN Xgames Snowboarding 2 $5.99
:ps2: UFC Throwdown $5.99
 Atari Flashback System $2 :hot:

Ummm, you do know that in like a month or two, you could PROBABLY grab Taiko for about $3 or so. And, for $9 EACH, I hope those Eyetoy Grooves included an EYETOY with each or else you got seriously ripped off. I bought a copy of Eyetoy Groove for either 2 or 3 dollars about 2 months ago.

But then I realized it wasn't practical for me to own, since I didn't have an Eyetoy, so I took it back. Heck, my local Kmart has 3-4 copies still in stock, but anyone trying to buy them is SOL, since they were never marked clearance n will come up 'check shelf label'.

As for the rest of that list, I certainly hope that like others said, you plan on trading some, not that I'd want any of that since I could find my own at my local Kmarts and will probably wait till the very end of the markdowns so I get it the CHEAPEST. :p

Went to my one local Kmart in Rochester, MN and got the following...

:xbox:MechAssualt 2 - $6
:xbox:Mercenaries - $6
:gba:World Championship Poker - $3

My store was pretty picked over though I did not check the PS2 games.

I'm not sure if these are part of the clearance or are marked to normal price, but I noticed Wario Ware: Twisted at $20 and Radiata Stories at $30 (yikes). No one was around when I looked, so I didn't have them scanned to see if the prices were current. Just a (potential) heads up to hopefully future price drops.

Nothing at my K-mart... was really hoping for Sonic and a Game Boy Player. Price checked Timesplitters Future Perfect of Gamecube. Turned out to be 19.99. I did find a sealed interactive Gamecube Demo Disc (I Think # 18) sitting on the bottom of one of the piles. The manager wouldn't sell it to me though because it didn't ring up in the system (was hoping it would be a penny), which is too bad because it sells for about $40-60 on ebay :(

I just got back from the Deptford, NJ K-Mart. I got:
GBA
Banjo Pilot $6 (not $4 as in OP)
Sonic Advance 3 $6
Ice Climber NES $4
Zelda II NES $5 (not $7 as in OP)
Pokemon Ruby $10
Zelda Minish Cap $15

DS
Sprung $2.99 (not $1.99 as in OP)

The K-Mart had bunches of extras of Zelda II, Metroid, Pokemons Ruby and Sapphire, and Sonic Advance 3. If anyone can't find them at theirs and wants to trade, PM me.

Picked up a Wavebird/Metroid bundle hidden behind a stack of Donkey Kongas for $20 and another copy of Super Monkey Ball 2 for my neice. GoldenEye Rogue Agent $8

Picked up a non-PC version of Mario Golf for $8 today. I could've waited it out for another few weeks, I guess, but $8 wasn't too bad and I didn't want it to get purchased.

I didn't see if this was mentioned earlier. I don't know how many may or may not be interested in Final Fantasy XI for the PS2, but it's a nice purchase if you want to play around with the hard drive.

My local KMart in St. Louis has 2 of them marked at $25 complete.

Happy hunting to you all!

Does anybody know if the Zelda 4 Swords for GC is the one with the box and link cable, or the PC version that is onsale? I saw it with the box, but the price tag still read $50 or whatever and I didn't feel like bothering the guy for the price since it was so clearly marked.

I believe either version should ring up for $10, regardless of the price tag. I saw some(the box version) and they rang up for that price.

I bought the box with the link cable for 10$ a couple weeks ago, they should be either 10 or 6$ now, ignore the price tags, it will ring up in the system!

Zelda 4 Swords is $6 now and yes it's the box with the link cable. I found a Zelda Windwaker non PC yesterday for $8. I find the friendliest stores. I went to a Kmart yesterday and the girl unlocked all the cases for me and gave me her gun. She pretty much told me to scan anything I wanted. I also found a couple of Nyko Airflow controllers. If anyone is fortunate enough to find these still they are now $2!!

I had a few things scanned today at a Kmart in Gas City, IN

1080 Snowboarding - decided to ring up at the regular $20 price, but I think the sketchy clerk typed in that price as the register made a funny sound as if to indicate it was out of the system.

I asked a different clerk to scan Donkey Konga w/bongos as it was marked $49.99, and when she did it came up $14.99. So, I bought that and the Urbz was also $8 and I decided to get that too.

I managed to get XBox Mercenaries for $6 today and a Mario golf game (i think Toadstool Tour) for $8 (Gamecube).

Not too shabby!

Steve

Some prices from my kmart (gotten by scanning barcodes at self scanner), these prices obviously just dropped a few days ago since i checked a few days ago and the prices were even higher than these:

tony hawk ds - not in system
mario party 6 - 20$
pokemon ruby - 10$
true swing golf - 24$
zelda minish cap - 15$
lilo & stitch gba - 5.99
zelda II (nes classics) - 5$
dave mirra 2 gcn - 9.99
asphalt urban ds- 6$
the urbz ds- 12$
rayman ds - 10$

can someone please please pretty please give me the barcode digits for the dk jungle beat and dk jungle beat 2 the packages with the bongos, my kmart has both of these in stock, 2 or 3 of each and i would like to know the price but i cant seem to find the barcodes for the packages with the bongos, i would really appreciate this, thanks!!!

Thanks for the barcode, i just discovered you can also find barcodes in ebay auctions so i should be able to find the remaining one that i need.

Have you ever played Ridge Racer 64? It's pretty much the same game and if you are a fan of the ridge racer series or arcade style racers, I would recommend it for $6.

Anybody know if Pokemon Emerald is included in this? They have just one copy shoved in the back at my local Kmart and the guy wouldn't scan it, just said it was $35.

SaraAB - if you do find that DK Jungle Beat happens to be on clearance, could you post the price? There is one locked in a case at a nearby K-mart and I never thought to get it pricechecked because I assumed it wasn't part of the clearance.

So, reading through a couple of threads on CAG, I saw that the Guitar Hero bundle was $35 at Kmart. Is this a universal price or a YMMV?

pokemon emerald is 35.00 check about 3 days ago.
Does anybody know if mario party 5 is on clearance?
how about fire emblem gc?
gunstar super heroes?
any more ds games?
Is urban asphalt any good?

I hate to dredge things up again but just felt absolutely compelled to post on this one. Unless you're planning on being a CAG hero and trading or selling to other decent CAGs for minimal profit, you're an ass and are ruining the fun. In my view, a good CAG buys what he/she wants to play and leaves remaining copies on the shelf for others to enjoy.

Unless you go back 3 months later when its all still there and fair game. I rememer the EB gold mine I hit where I snagged 113 guides for $1.13. Most had been pennied out over 6 months ago.

K-Mart in Greenville, SC (well, Taylors) is pretty wiped out. I wanted the DK with Bongos, but despite a price check, it still came up $38. Not worth it for me.

In other news, went by Video Games Cavern and bought some old NES clear box cases for my old games (.25 each), a boxed copy of Star Tropics for the NES (cool, friggin hard game for $2.95), and the strategy guide for Advance Wars DS for $3.25. At least my searching lead to something today.

Because then, you end up with a Kmart like the one near ME, which has 2-3 copies of F-Zero GX, 3-4 copies of Eyetoy Groove and other various clearance games STILL on the shelves but now coming up 'check shelf label', which to most Kmart employees means 'charge the sticker price'.

And thus, then those games will sit there until that Kmart goes back and does some research on the old clearance prices about halfway through the NEXT generation of gaming and FINALLY properly marks them.

For example, there are about 10-12 clearance games at a Kmart about an hour from me, but due to the fact that most of them are out of the system already AND most of the Kmart clerks I've run into act like you're hassling them to price check games, they will probably be there for eternity.

THIS is why, if you see the same clearance games on the shelves for 3-6 months and others have had 'the chance' to get them, then you should just grab them all before they drop out of the system, because once they do, NO ONE will get them.
