Sept Update: Computer glitch is slowing markdowns - some games are marked up instead of marked down. Example: Feel the Magic should be tagged at $9, sept drop should make it $3, glitch is having it ring up $15. Glitch appears to be YMMV or just on certain games. Some games havent dropped at all. Glitch is on the corporate level - no info on when it will be fixed.

FAQ

Q: Why was this thread created?
A: Because there are multiple threads floating around, and its useful to consolidate. THis one will have the OP constantly updates so you don't have to go digging.

Q: Are these prices YMMV?
A: No, they shouldn't be. I currently have 10 K-Marts in my shopping radius, and they've all been consistent. At one time it was thought that they were YMMV, but I'm pretty sure it was instead employee incompetence at keeping prices updated.

EDIT: Some people are reporting prices that are YMMV, but I am hesitant to mark the deal as such. If you get a different price, it seems to be the exception to the rule, not a true YMMV where it is hit or miss. I'd say these prices are 90% accurate.

Q: An employee said the price was higher than what's on the list.
A: Get the game scanned at the register.

Q: The employee got that price gun and said it was higher than what's on the list.
A: GET THE GAME SCANNED AT THE REGISTER. The gun is incorrect sometimes.

Q: Can I use the price checker thingies?
A: YES! Brilliant idea! They will give you an accurate price. Also, if you have the problem of useless employees not opening the cases for you, you can print off the UPC codes and check them at the price checker.

Q: How can I help?
A: Multiple ways:
- Get a job at K-Mart so we have an inside man
- Post the prices of the games you get
- Write down the prices of games you do not get, then post those too

Q: When are items marked down?
A: Once a month, near the middle of the month.

Q: Does this have anything to do with the weekend 50% off sales K-Mart usually runs?
A: No. While some of these games used to be on the list, this is completely seperate. None of these games are on the 50% list anymore and will not be reduced during these sales.

Q: What if I bought a game at a higher price and it gets reduced? Can I get a price adjustment or a return/rebuy?
A: Chances are VERY SLIM. K-Mart does not do price adjustments on clearance items. A return/rebuy might be possible, but most Kmarts do not employee people with the mental capacity to fully understand this concept.

Q:Can I price check the games without getting into the cases?
A: Yes, thanks to this UPC document from TimTucker. You can scan these at self scanners located in most K-Marts, but note that sometimes prices may not be accurate
http://www.timtucker.com/games/kmart_upcs.doc

Q: What if the price is higher than what's on the list?
A: Then your store has not done markdowns left. Ask them if they have any pending PCLs and perhaps they can do it for you, or just wait it out. Also, you could try a return/rebuy if you have another local store that did the drops. Use the UPC sheet to check this

Q: What if a price doesn't come up? It says "Check shelf tag for pricing".
A: This means that the game was at 90% off, and for some reason it was scheduled to be marked down further. If you have a cool employee, you can get games for cheap. If you have a game with outdated tags, you could be in for a hassle. This is similiar when Target marks things down for salvage.

Q: Are these markdowns YMMV?
A: NO. These are universal nationwide prices. If you arent getting them, its your stores problem and doesnt indicate a larger problem as a whole.

Q: How are things marked down?
A: AFAIK, it can be done manually via gun, or it can be done en masse at the register. If you want further details, we are currently looking for a CAG to take one for the team and get a job at K-Mart to infiltrate and learn their secret methods.

Q: What games will drop further?
A: As a GENERAL RULE, games at 1.00, 1.50, 2.00, 3.00, 4.00 are at 90% off AND WILL NOT DROP FURTHER. Games ending in .99 will drop 2 bucks at a time in random intervals.

Q: What do I do with all these games?
A: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95481

THE OLD GAME LIST - All Games on this list are NOW YMMV. These prices are the lowest reported prices, but many are out of the system and will now depend on the employee you get, the tag on the game and your own negotiating skills:

**SPECIAL NOTE** - All games at a certain price point seem to drop across the board. So if say one game dropped from $8 to $5, all other $8 games also dropped to $5. I believe this is due to percentages, I will discuss this in the theories section later. Here are some examples for this month:

Just a heads up, by Kmart still has Guitar Hero at $76.99 (???).

Anyway, I saw that in the case there was a Mario Kart DS System Bundle. Anyone know if these went on clearance at all? They were kinda busy today so I didn't bother them to have it opened up.
Because then, you end up with a Kmart like the one near ME, which has 2-3 copies of F-Zero GX, 3-4 copies of Eyetoy Groove and other various clearance games STILL on the shelves but now coming up 'check shelf label', which to most Kmart employees means 'charge the sticker price'.

And thus, then those games will sit there until that Kmart goes back and does some research on the old clearance prices about halfway through the NEXT generation of gaming and FINALLY properly marks them.

For example, there are about 10-12 clearance games at a Kmart about an hour from me, but due to the fact that most of them are out of the system already AND most of the Kmart clerks I've run into act like you're hassling them to price check games, they will probably be there for eternity.

THIS is why, if you see the same clearance games on the shelves for 3-6 months and others have had 'the chance' to get them, then you should just grab them all before they drop out of the system, because once they do, NO ONE will get them.
Um... so every one that hoards are buying games no one has any interest in?
Um... so every one that hoards are buying games no one has any interest in?
I don't hoard games, I only ever hoarded guides and have since stopped doing even that.

However, if you went into a Kmart store and found 20 games that were clearanced on an old list, but each came up 'check shelf label' and then the clerk quotes the price on the last price sticker(if it isn't the clearance price that was last in system), would you buy the game(s)?

Wouldn't you rather get 10 games for $20, rather than have 2 games mismarked, which are already out of the system, marked $10 each?

Think about it, people HAD a chance to grab these games prior to the clearance, they didn't and soon the games may drop completely out of the system, making them 'priced as marked' to some clerks.

Sure, buying 5-6 copies of any game, just because they're $2 each is wrong and deprives another possible gamer of getting a copy. But, as I said before, if no one grabbed them before NOW, then they should be 'fair game'.

Hell, soon as the middle of September hits, I'm going to try and hit up multiple Kmarts for copies of Taiko DrumMaster, since it SHOULD drop to about $7 or UNDER.

Anyway, that's my opinion on the clearanced games, believe what you want, but a little hoarding saves those cheap games from being field destroyed, although people buying JUST to Ebay are SMART too, IMO.

Sorry for the rant, but I don't think it's anyone elses business what other CAGs on here do with the games/guides they buy. If they decide to trade or sell to other CAGs, good for them. If they also decide to Ebay those items, good for them too. It's all about personal opinion. And, IMO, I don't give a crap what people do with what they buy.

No one's saying both you're a hoarder or that it's anyone's business on what people do. Capitalism allows you to buy whatever you want for whichever you want.
But, I really doubt anyone who buys multiples of those games are really doing it for that you. You propose an interested practice that would probably yield more clearance games being sold. But, almost a lot of people who end up doing that will end up Ebaying them except for CAG heroes.

surprised to see K-mart staff, at least three of them, at the Electronics dept.

well, because it's Blue Light Special Sale this Labor Day Weekend.

FYI gamestop is going to run the trade 3 get an extra $10 sale from 9/4-9/24 so this should be perfect for those $2 games. Even though my stores picking are pretty slim this time around.

So everyone just keep checking for when the price drops again and post here.

Stopped by my local Kmart in Fairfax, VA and got a huge surprise, they reorganized the entire store and all the surplus of old games are now gone. I guess they want to make shelve space for PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360. It's a shame because the really had some gems I wanted to pick up. Now all they have is the most current releases and there really isn't much stuff.

Ok i got the prices on the DK games

Donkey Kong Jungle Beat (bongos) UPC 045496962708 scans up 39.99 although there is a tag on the shelf at my kmart that says its supposed to be 38$

Donkey Konga 2 (bongos) scans not in system, there is one on the shelf at my kmart. (upc 045496962746)

Donkey Konga 1 (bongos) scans up 15.00 none on the shelf at my kmart though (UPC 045496961299)

There is also a box with just DK Bongos on the shelf at my kmart, anyone got a UPC for those?? Also double check the UPC's listed above for me, but i am sure i got them all right.

On another note i was in another kmart yesterday and got rayman ds for 6.00 however its still 10$ at the kmart near me so i guess they are doing this individually by store.

If there were some games you really wanted on the shelves and you have a reciept for a very cheap price when you purchased them previously you can bring in your reciept that shows the price and they will honor the price. It might just be me but i have run into some very nice kmart employees and i brought a reciept in yesterday to a kmart and the employee gave me e-cards for .60 a pack, the price they were supposed to be (instead of the 5.99 listed on the pack).

The amherst kmart is now picked clean, and it was not me who finished it off either, most of the games left were crappy gba games anyways, it was probably random people because they did have the games tagged at clearance prices so people probably picked them up over the holiday weekend.

Yesterday i picked up:

Namco Museum Players Choice GCN - 8$
Luigi's Mansion Players Choice GCN - 8$

Also fire emblem path of radiance GCN has dropped to 19.99.

Nice find! Do you know if they just dropped it recently?

No idea but when i scanned the barcode thats what it came up. Its probably a players choice type drop although i dont know if its dropped to that price everywhere or not.
Nice find! Do you know if they just dropped it recently?
Indeed. Very nice find. I hope my K-Mart actually has a copy. The place seems to have been ravaged viciously. Today I got a non-Greatest Hits DMC and Zoo Keeper and that's pretty much all I can see purchasing for the clearances (besides FE, if they have it). If anyone has requests I'll look but overall the selection is pretty pathetic.

Fire Emblem for 20 dollars?! That's a nice deal except the Kmarts around me are too far away and have crap selection. I'm still looking for a Megaman Anniversary Collection for PS2 (did it drop out of the system yet?) so if anyone find a copy and is willing to sell it to me please give me a PM.

I am sorry i made a mistake, the barcode i had was for fire emblem sacred stones gba, and not for the gamecube fire emblem, so dont go out of your way to get a copy of the gamecube one since i am not sure what the price on it is yet.

FE Path Of Radiance is still full price.

I saw loads of copies of 'Harry Potter & The Chamber of Secrets' for Game Boy Color. They had a yellow clearance sticker that said $14, I'm sure that game has been out of the system for years.

They also had a few copies of 'Sprung' which I had the cashier scan, she scanned with the hand scanner and it was scanning as 0.00. After trying it a few more times, she looked all confused and turned the game over and looked at the sticker price and said I guess it is $29.99. hahaha what a joke.. I declined to buy it.

I didn't bother getting anymore games scanned, as it seems like this K-mart had a ton of the games off the old list (7 copies of Soul Calibur for PS2) and they are probably all scanning as 0.00 or check shelf for price. Plus the employees seem so pissy, like you have to buy the games if you want them price-checked. It's ashame, cause this K-Mart had like 5-7 copies of most of the games off the old list, the glass cases were packed in tight with games. All those clearance games laying in there and they will only be sold for sticker price.

LOL - this brings up something I've been meaning to ask - why the hell does EVERY Kmart I've been to have like 100 copies of Harry Potter for GBC? No other GBC games, just Harry Potter. It must be the most overprinted game ever (next to ET :)).

They also had 8 copies of the E-Reader with a yellow sticker price of $20 and squating down and looking right in the far back of the glass case I saw 4 copies of the Eye Toy Groove with camera, which I am sure is long gone out of the system. Also saw a ton of controllers in the far back, can't even tell what they are, must have been for PS2 as it was under the PS2 games.

:gc:
Zelda Four Swords $6
Zelda Windwaker $8
Any chance someone can get me a copy of Four Swords? My KMart didn't have *anything* worthwhile, but that's the one at the top of my want list. Help?
Anyone know how much the large box with eye toy kinetic in it is, a couple of these are at my kmart and i am curious.
I have had it checked at several K-Marts and it rings up $40.00. What a deal!!

fuck. My local Kmart suddenly has 5 copies of Wavebird with Mario Party 4/Metro, which wasn't there before (during the previous clearance). I had one of them scanned and of course, and no price came up. Instead they just pulled a figure ($30) out of their ass. No way I can convince them that it was $7.

Ask them to use the hand scanner to look up the last selling price. There's a slight chance it will work (worked for me yesterday with 3 games).

If you find a way to get one, I'm willing to buy Mario Party 4 from you. I don't even want the wavebird.

I saw this today which doesn't seem to be on the master list.

icongamecube.gif
Harry Potter & the Prisoner of Azkaban - $6.00
I am sorry i made a mistake, the barcode i had was for fire emblem sacred stones gba, and not for the gamecube fire emblem, so dont go out of your way to get a copy of the gamecube one since i am not sure what the price on it is yet.
Fire Emblem Sacred Stones is $4.97 at Sears if your Sears has one. Way better than $19.99 at Kmart.

Anyone who was able to find a copy of Shadow Hearts: Covenant I'm very much interested in trying to get a hold of a copy. Nothing to really offer in trade other than cash though since there's nothing in my crappy little town.

K-Mart today only had two copies of Devil May Cry (non GH) for $6 and a copy of Mercenaries (Xbox) for $6 also IIRC.

List will be updated tonight/tomorrow morning

This is the time for the monthly drop, so keep your eyes peeled. If you notice items starting to drop, please scan as many as possible so we can determine the percentage amount everything has dropped.

Oddity - 4 copies of Devil may Cry popped up at one of the stores I go to - tagged 14.99. Scanned 49.99 at the register and at the self scanner. Have to wait for a competent employee that knows how to work the gun to get them apparently

Dave

Could it be Devil May Cry was taken off clearance at that store? I found NFS HP2 for PS2 and Spryo Hero's Tale for GCN last week and knowing they were out of the system, I asked the electronics employee to use the gun to look up the prices on those 2 games and with the gun, they both were $19.99, full price.

Same thing happened to me with Custom Robo and Baten Kaitos the other day.

That definetly means it is on a store by store basis then because using the hand gun, I got Custom Robo for the correct 90% off price the same day that the other 2 games I mentioned were full price so Custom Robo was out of the system at the store I went to.

Either that or the guy was jerking me around. It was a new store to me, I just kinda blew it off since I did get quite a bit at that store. I'll try it again in a few days.

Willing to work out a trade or $$.

LMAO I have the case and instruction manual left from the copy of SH:Covenant that I found for $2 at one of my local Kmarts.

However, once EB/GS upped the price in their system for it USED, I swapped it in DISC ONLY. That was the first time I've ever done that, but in case I ever need a 2 disc case, I now have one.

As for me, I checked my one local Kmart tonight(Dickson City, PA) and found the following had already dropped to lower prices:

Advent Rising(Xbox) $5
Feel The Magic(DS)$3

They also have a buttload of copies of Zelda Windwaker, still ringing up at $8 and ONE copy of Luigi's Mansion(which I hid) for $8. Other assorted games and various other crap that won't seem to fully discount(copies of Mark of Kri and ONE PS1 Multitap come to mind) are still in a decent abundance at this store.

What I still laugh at though, is how some of the same games from these clearances are on Kmarts site for ALOT more(Eyetoy Groove game by itself is $29.99). Too bad they wouldn't update the site with these clearance prices.

Anyway, I still have a bunch of games I haven't even opened from other clearances(Sears,TRU,etc), so I didn't grab ANY of the clearance games from Dickson City.

Happy Hunting

Adevent Rising rang up $15 for me today. I'm hoping that its merely a case of my store not being updated yet.

Any thoughts?

I did go ahead and pick up LoZ: 4 Swords ($6) though.

Mark of Kri is the one game I can think of that goes against the grain of how the timing of the clearance stuff gets reduced further at K-Mart if it doesn't sell. I know I've seen it marked at about $21~28 dollars for a long ass time at my store (I'm thinking for well over a year now). You'd think it would have been out of the system long ago if it was treated price-wise like the other clearance games. Perhaps it's the clearance game that was put on clearance and forgotten about sort of like how Devil May Cry & Resident Evil: Code Veronica were regular price for a long long time at K-Mart.

My local kmart is closing so they have clearance + 30% off the lowest price on all games.

Maybe i can help some people out if you tell me what games to get.

Also what games could get good wal-mart credit?

mark of kri is weird -

i was able to pick it up just once for 3.00 (about a month ago) but every time i try to get it anywhere else it rings up 21.00 and most places it is actually labeled at 21.00.

I've got it in MINT condition. How much would you be willing to pay? My copy wasn't from the K-Mart sale, but I paid about $35 for it new from GS.

Let me know how much, and I might part with it.

SEPTEMBER DROPS HAPPENING NOW. FOR SOME REASON NOT ALL GAMES ON A CERTAIN LEVEL ARE DROPPING.

One store I went to had the new tags printed, but the computers were down and they werent adjusted. One store flat said they didnt have enough time to do them and to come back Thursday. One store had no competent employees. One store did however have them done. The store that did them didn't drop all the games though and they weren't on the master list, and I have no idea why. Here are prices I can confirm for now:

Ridge Racer DS- $2
Feel the Magic - $3
Advent Rising - $5
World Champ Poker GBA - $1
Hot Shots Fore PS2 - $4
Namco Museum Xbox - $4
Yu Yu Hakusho Tourney Tactics - $3

Games that did NOT drop

Final Fantasy DoS - $8
Zelda Minish Cap - $15
Eye Toy Kinetic - $35

Time to start searching stores and hounding employees until they update prices. Even if you arent interested in a title, please scan as many as possible to help out the list. If someone has enough time to make a UPC like TIm did for the new list, that would be awesome. I have 5 stores to hit tomorrow, and even more Wednesday and Thursday, so I will try and update with as much info as I get as soon as I can. I had some interesting stories at some stores today

Dave

Wha? Hmm, not that much... guess we'll have to wait for further updates...

But Feel The Magic for $3 = YAY

Anyway, I can get to a Kmart tomorrow, but I don't know any ways to get prices other than asking the employees to open up the case and scan them. Is there an easier way to get the prices, Slacker? I might be able to help out.
