The Official Nintendogs Thread!

Finally beat the Master Class disc competition you were having trouble on last night.

The leader got 39 points, and with 5 seconds left, my dog brought me the disc, and we had 31 points. So I launched it, hoping he would catch it, and he did. 10 more points got me to 41, and I won. I'll have to practice more and go after the Championship. And I've got so much money I don't know what to do with it.

Got my second dog, a Husky. Her name is Sasha. She can sit, lay, and go onto her side. Later we're gonna try an agility contest.

Speaking of which, DJ beat the Expert Agility, got too many faults in Master and lost, then won 1st again in Expert. Hey, 600 bucks, good enough. =P

My next goal is to get the $1,000 home upgrade, seeing as how I don't need ANOTHER dog to take care of.

I tried turning the mic sensitivity down to medium, and it helped a lot. Thanks to whoever reocmmended that. =P

That would be me. It's a significant difference. Another recommendation for everyone is if they have two dogs and you're having problems training one dog, stick the other dog in the dog hotel. Zel was being stubborn with his jump command so I stuck Kira in the dog hotel and it worked wonders.
I unlocked Shiba Inu this morning. They have a cute black one I'm thinking about getting.

Just a quick question, when the dog recognizes a command and the lightbulb appears, you can drag the bulb to their mouth and they'll chomp on it. Is there any benefit to this? Or is ti just a little silly thing in the game?

It seems to make that dog happy. And possibly learn commands quicker. (?) I just started doing that, and my dog seems to be learning a little quicker and doing the commands better. But it's really a matter of opinion, because I haven't found any definite proof of my claims.

I feed my puppies the light bulb because I think it's rather cute and amusing. I haven't seen any effects after doing so, though.

I did notice that my triaining of Sasha took a LOT less time than DJ, and I'd bet anything it's because of the mic sensitivity issue. Thanks again, Lulu.

Although I've only had my Husky for a little better, the trianer points just pour in once you have two dogs. I'm hoping to have 6000 Trainer Points (Cavalier King Charles Spanial, I think) by Friday. I don't know if I'll buy a Shiba Inu, though. I'm kind of wiating to get the German Shepard...

In any case, thanks everyone for the numeroius tips.

Just found this out:

Get your puppy to play tug-of-war with you with the pull rope. Then, drag the rope from the bottom of your screen to the top. This should lift your puppy into the air, and it will give you a birds eye view. You can then proceed to spin him around like a propeller, and throw him across the room.

Hehe!

I did that last night, and the first time I did it I almost soiled my britches. I was like "Oh, fuck! There he goooooooes!" And then he came back for more.

Max got first place in both the Expert and Master Obediance Trial today! We have one more competition left, so we're gonna go for the Championship tonight!

I've been slow about teaching tricks, so I still have 1 slot open. Today he learned handstand and walk. I'll either teach him to wave or wiggle his butt, whichever comes first.

I have about $5400 and 3500 trainer points. I think I am going to wait to unlock the shiba at 4000 and then get that as my new dog. Not in a rush, just taking it day by day.

So far I have two of the items only found in Dachshund: the red rubber bone and the smart clock. The walkthrough on gamefaqs has a list of the version-specific items for all 3 versions (not sure if it's complete).

Also, has anyone seen/bought the keyboard at the discount store? I don't remember if anyone had posted that or not. I have yet to see it at all, but I guess you can play it for your puppy! And the pull rope - I've only seen it one time at the store and haven't seen it since.

I saw the Keyboard once, but didn't buy it. It was 180 dollars, and I just didn't have that kind of cash. I haven't seen it since. I saw the Pull Rope once and picked it up, and I saw Biscuits/Jerky once and bought about 20 of each. =D

I have about 1100 dollars and 2700 Trainer Points. Sasha got 1st in the Beginner Disc competition! Not bad considering we never even went to the park. -_-;

I'm waiting for her to buold enough stamina to go to the gym so we can train and try some agility. As of now I haven't tried obedience yet. I think I'll be able to win Agility, but I dunno about Disc. It's hard.

I make regular trips to the discount store on the off chance that I'll find a jump rope or something. Maybe even the keyboard again. I finally found a bark ball, and DJ loves it. Sasha hasn't seen it yet.

As for the version specific stuff, I have Dachshund, and I have the Red Plastic Bone, and nothing more. ;-; But I gave Sasha a Beret!!!
hmmm I haven't found a tug rope yet ; ;
They're found at the Discount Store, in casee you didn't know.

guess I need to make more pit stops to the discount store. ; ;
EDIT: I got it and the keyboard... I always visited the top store so I tried the bottom store and they had a bunch of stuff I hadn't seen.

wtf??? i got 6000 trainer points and...

:spoilers:

the interior designer has a "desktop" for sale for $5000... ???? from the looks of the pitcure, it's just a table with books and pencils on it... why would anyone put their dogs on a table? oh well... i want to buy it anyway, but I need to save up my cash.

Could you tell me what exactly the Keyboard does?

Same here. I think I'm a smidge obsessive over this and Pac N' Roll.

It's a music item. It's a keyboard you can hit the keys and change it to piano/trumpet/xylphone/other strange sounds.

Amen, this game is insainely addictive. I also have found the Urbz to be very addicting, so that along with Nintendogs is eating away at my DS's battery.

My wife bought the game this week. She didn't have much time to play though, so I've been tinkering here at work. We've got a Shiba Inu apparently, my wife named it pocky (no capital letter, grrr) after the Japanese candy.

The no 2-save slot thing does kind of suck. I've been training her puppy. Oh well. Maybe I will delete him later.

The mic does pick up a lot of background noise. I accidently hit the mic and didn't say anything. It replayed the sound of the white noise here at work - environmental control system (constant a/c blowing sound) and old VAX system fans & disc drives humming. Expains why the recognition was working poorly. I turned the mic down to LOW and it works a lot better so far.

is there any tangible benefit to upgrading your apartment?

I don't know if any of you had this problem, but I bought a new DS, since I was playing Nintendogs all the time and my boyfriend wanted to play Jump Superstars on his DS. Well the problem is that if you switch to a new DS the dogs can't go for walks or competitions for "some time". I decided to just play with his DS until 11 tonight and then switched and everything is back to normal at midnight.
Just some information so you're not stuck a day without being able to walk your dogs and do competitions.

First let me say "HELLO" to everyone here at CAG!
I have been a lurker for some time, I lurk no more.

Now on to Nintendogs....
I got Lab and Friends on Tuesday and have not put it down.( well maybe to eat , sleep; and work )

I'm at 1993 trainer points, i could have made more points but my wife keeps grabing my DS and she just pets the dog, ummmm that did not sound right.
I started off with a Corgi named Zelda, and i now have two more pups named Rocket ( a lab),and Froggy ( a Poodle)

I don't know what items are unique as of yet, but i do have a few i like, such as the Mario ? block, and the Dice cushion.

This is addressed in the game's manual.

Well we didn't place in the Championship Obediance Trial last night, so back down to Master level. I was amazed at his obediance though - he had to hold 'roll over' for 20 seconds, and did it perfectly! I couldn't believe he stayed put for that long.

I started to get more into the disc training. We went to the park and he did really well, but still needs some practice. Might enter the Open Class Disc Competition sometime today and see how he does.

I finally saw the balloon at the discount store. Picked up about 20 of them (they're only .10-.20). I was worried that Max would get scared when it popped, but it didn't seem to faze him.

I will definitely unlock the shiba today, and I may just buy one. I'm sure Max will be happy for a new playmate!

I actually like how Nintendogs is meant to be played multiple times during the day. I can play briefly, i.e. maybe 15-30 minutes at a time. It doesn't get boring because after I take him for a walk, practice tricks or competition stuff, and give lots of petting, I can just shut it off and go do something else for awhile. I'm sure once you have more than one dog, playtime increases. But overall I've been enjoying the game so much! It was worth the long wait! :)
This is addressed in the game's manual.
The reason I brought it up was the manual didn't specify how much time, which irritated me because then I had to go and figure it out.

Probably been discussed but I saw the commercial for this last night. TERRIBLE! If they have more than one - a kid is talking about how great the game is (using 'hip' lingo in a not-so smooth way) and is called downstairs by his mom to greet all his lady friends at the door. He ends by saying something like 'Play on players.' Just horrid.

Just got my second dog, a boy pug named Peabo (after the TJ&E character). He's laid back and cool, and has sports shades on. Woo! So right now I have a friendly female Lab and a laid back male Pug, and I'm planning on getting a rambunctious male Dalmation later on. A nice mix of things.

I have a question....

I was about to start teaching my pup how to jump. He jumped, I clicked the lightbulb, and said "Jump." Unfortunately, my brother was in the room and he was talking, so the mic picked up on him too. Now what do I do? My dog knows the jump command as a jumble of voices. Will he be confused next time I say jump?

My two dogs are the best at the disc competitions; one of them, my Corgi Meiko, has won the Championship twice already. Since the discs are so easy for them, I'm not even bothering with the other competitions. Just put in my tatami house order in today.

Did he actually learn it during the garble, or was it just a light bulb? If it was a light bulb then you're fine, you'll be able to keep saying it noise-free and he'll forget the garbled one. If he actually learned it (and you named it), it might still be fine, but you can always delete and reteach the trick.

Has he actually learned the trick yet? If not, don't worry. Just resume training in a quiet room. It might take a little longer, and those question marks might pop up, but after awhile he'll understand your command and learn it. If he's learned it already, just delete it and do it over.

This happened when I was teaching Max to beg. I was having a hard time with the word beg. I had even changed the command to "up", but that didn't go so well. Finally I just said "beg" long and drawn out. It made the process longer, but he finally learned it, even after changing the word I used for the command.
No Gamestops close by here have this game. It's pissing me off. :bomb:
have you tried toys r us? Last I checked they had tons.

No, he hasn't actually learned it yet. Thanks for answering my question! I had a REALLY hard time with shake. I ended up having to say it long and drawn out so I sounded really stupid, but it worked lol. Beg was my fastest believe it or not.

Just got the keyboard. What are the odds that if you play the Mario or Zelda theme you unlock something? Anybody with any musical talent want to give it a go?

Bought my second dog today: a black and white shiba named Yuki. She has a shy nature, but gets along with Max (who has a mischievous nature). She learned 4 commands today, which was a plus! Haven't entered her in any competitions yet, though.

It's fun having two dogs running around now. Sometimes I feel bad when I just call one over, or when they both come over I can only pet one. It's like I'm neglecting the other! But I'm trying to spend equal time with each.

Well, I have 3100 dollars and 3800 Trainer Points. Both my dogs have achiebed 1st in Master Rank Agility. Time for Champions tomorrow!

I have the Jump Rope, and I'm going to place my order for the 1000 dollar house upgrade tomorrow, vringing me to 2100 dollars...yeah.
have you tried toys r us? Last I checked they had tons.
rofl, I'm not paying $30 for this game

Well, I placed my order for 1000 dollar house last night. I didn't get it yet.

DJ lost Agility in Champions, 1sted in Masters, then 2nded in Champions. Woohoo! I unlocked Shiba Inu, and they'r etoo cute. I want one SO BAD! But I REALLY want a German Sheperd, so I'm gonna wait. Hopefully I can find a friend w/ a German Sheperd.

Anyway, I'm not walking Sasha, hoping to place in the Championships of Agility.

That's it for now.

EDIT: Damnz.

Sasha got 1st in Master Agility, then 1st in Championships Agility, then 1st AGAIN in Champ Agility. That's 2600 bucks right there!!! I'm at 5800 dollars and 4400 Trainer Points, pro trainer.

Mmmmmm. Can't wait for my new place. Now if only I could find the freaking keyboard...

I finally got the game (Lab & Friends) a couple days ago (damn EB and their slow shipping), with the neat-o lunchbag and screen cleaner thingy. (Those were pretty nice preorder promos.) I've got a black/brown/white Corgi named Puma.

Sasha and DJ both placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd in Champs Agility today. I got the Keyboard and a Pink Aerodisc today, as well as an RC Helicopter! I'm also planning on upgrading to the 5000 dollar room tomorrow. I have 5000 Trainer Points and 7500 dollars.

well, I hit 10000 trainer points yesterday... it's alot easyer to get points and money now with owning two dogs at once. I have a male pug, Tofu, and a male mini dach, Crusty... so far Tofu has won the championship of all different types of competitions (disc won disc 3 times in a row for champ and 2 times in agility for champ). I still love this game a ton... it's really easy to get into, and it's hard for me to get board with. I want to unlock the boxer before I buy another dog.

I have a few questions:

Is there anywhere I can find a list of all of the items in the game?

Also, are certain items only available at certain point levels?

And finally, is there any advantage to upgrading your living area?

Thanks!

Dude I just got the Mario Kart on my walk today. It's a toy that you control with the control-pad and buttons.
Also I got some new records, the Flower Waltz makes my dogs do the funniest things.
I decided on my third dog today: Freya a black Shiba Inu.
EDIT: Wow when you press the left trigger the camera is right behind the kart so you can really ride around the room.
Check the walkthrough at Gamefaqs (there's only one). It has an on-going list of items, plus the items that are version-specific. I'm not sure of it's completeness, but it has quite a number of items identified so far. Hopefully that helps!

My wife and i were in line the other day to get my parking tag for school, and my wife decided to buy a new pup out of the kennel.

Well all of you know that have played it , that there comes a time were you have to name the new pup.
Well my wife starts calling out the name she had picked..."gummibear"...."gummibear".
The people in the line thought my wife was nuts!:dunce:

Well i guess she did marry me, so their not too off!:imwithst:

I've squirreled away enough cash to either buy A) the first house upgrade or B) a new dog. Any suggestions as to which I should purchase first?
