The Orange Box: Team Fortress 2 - Gen. Discussion

I played last night got 1 laggy game and then walked into a awesome group and stayed for almost 4 hours before going to bed. The game is really fun I like being a spy but engineer is fun as well. Flamethower guy is the ultimate last base defender I was single handedly holding off the whole other team for a bit with the help of a medic.

I have yet to touch the other 4 games in the Orange Box. Saving them for the weekend and been hooked to TF2. :D
 
Got more playtime last night, and I'm surprised at how much more fun this is compared to TFC. Pyro isn't useless anymore, scouts are actually fun to play, and even small 3 vs 3 matches are fun as hell.

Though a part of me still wished I had a better PC rig to play this on a dedicated. I haven't run into many laggy games, but when I did they were very noticeable :\
 
I haven't had any lag yet, so maybe I'm just lucky so far. I don't usually play super late at night though, so maybe the servers get congested.

I'll compile the list of tags of people that mentioned wanting to be part of a CAG group and get em posted sometime today (hopefully). I know I'm always up for playing with someone that actually thinks working as a team is a good idea.

I do not see many engineers implement the teleporters as much as i do. they seriously turn the tide on battles.


EDIT: btw, if i havent said earlier, I am all up for a CAG group.

I think pretty much all classes get this (except maybe medic). Its a random shot that will be a bit glowy blue and it crits. It's most fun on a pyro when you get a string of them in a row using your flame thrower.

I don't know about the console version, but on the pc, you get more of them the better you do in the game.

I know! People just build their turrets and stand next to them the entire match.

If you set up a teleporter in the enemy base usually everyone thinks it's brilliant, rather than common sense.

Good question! Post patch I gave TF2 a go and the first couple of matches were flawless, but the ones afterwards were pretty laggy.
 
Anybody else have problems with freezing? Almost every other time I search for a game or go to join one, it just freezes and I have to restart my 360.

Other than that, I think it's great. I'm best with the pyro and medic so far, but I haven't experimented much.
 
Yeah, I played for a good 3 hours and it froze(no exaggeration) ~10-15 times in the menu, mostly in the terrible server browser.

The game is amazing once you get into a game without lag though. At first I was disappointed that you can't infect with the medic anymore but the bonesaw makes up for it.

Seconded, incredible design. It was Friday night and I got in trouble with the wife for playing this instead of going out. Regrets? NONE!

Beware- Scorch is very good at this game. Play against him and your ass will be handed to you.
 
Man the lag gets pretty bad in this game. There are times my character will move sporadically on it's own or not move at all.

I guess I have just gotten unlucky with the games I have joined.

Other than that gripe, the game is amazing so far. I've been having a lot of fun. I wish more people online would choose Medics or Engineers though.
 
I had a blast playing this tonight. I dont know how long the high will last, but for now Im loving it. I was a bit dissapointed at first, being a huge fan of the original game (no grenades is killing me), but I canmot deny that I had alot of fun playing this.

I'm assuming you're asking how the points are generated. You get points for all the different things you do, not just kills.

For example:

Everytime you get a kill: 1 point
Everytime someone uses your teleporter as an engineer: .25 points
Everytime you backstab someone as a spy: 2 points
Everytime you get an assist: .50 points

I'm not sure if these values are exactly correct but that is the general idea.
 
Nah, it's not that but that's good to know too.

I played a good 20+ games last night(most ranked) and I went to the leaderboards to see how I was doing and the button that is supposed to jump to your leaderboard position did nothing. Plus I couldn't find a way to compare leaderboard rankings of people on your friends list like every other 360 game has. Maybe they're just lagging behind or something.
 
me, zew, Jim, and a friend of mine dominated for 5 straight hours last night and loaded up on achievements. Team Fortress 2 is more fun than Halo 3 MP ATM.

QFT...is it just me, or does Halo seem...boring compared to this? I fired it up earlier and I had to go back to TF2.

I'm on Fall Break now, so I'd really like to get some CAG games going. Tonight maybe?

I like it alright. The only problem that I have with it is that I keep getting disconnected from the host every other match.

Wound up getting disconnected from the host at the end, then a freeze, then getting horrible lag which eventually froze my game. Earlier today went a bit better, I actually played a few games with no freezes, and only a couple bad lag spikes.

I've been doing medic almost exclusively and having a blast. Though, I'm still picking up a lot of aspects of the game, it's been so long since I had TFC installed on my PC.
 
Fun time tonight, but then Zew was like "hey, all the cool kids are in here" and we followed in like blind sheep.. lag lag lag lag lag.. I gave up. When I hit zoom in on my sniper rifle, it zoomed in and out really fast like six times, zoomed in without the scope on the screen, then showed me zoomed out with the scope on the screen, then zoomed in.. and I fired a shot.. I pulled the trigger six times, and one finally hit the wall about seven seconds later. So I left. That was redonkulous.
 
Good time tonight guys. Once we got it down to a limit of 8, the lag dissapeard.

Although it would have been nice to be able to blame the lag on why we couldn't take out their 2 medic 1 heavy combo.
