I wish I had a job using Autocad...it was my favorite class in HS...well Architecture class was the best.
Heh, AutoCAD is quite easy, but I'm trying to aim for a job that will pay anywhere from $40k - $60k, so I can:
-Move out of my house and fully support myself.
-Buy new car (well, not really looking at a high priced model, just something to suit me)
-Get new furniture (all my furniture is kids stuff)
-Maybe new computer (mine dates back to 2004, but it's not a priority for me)
-Mostly just so I can pay all bills and such.

I don't really care about having lots of money to buy video games, I just want enough to live comfortably and have stuff paid for. But oh well, my mistake taught me to not keep so many files around so I don't get confused.

A job is a job, TMK. Especially in this economy, beggars can't be choosers. If you can take the $15/hour gig...grab it. That would work out to $29K to start.

I loved drafting. All the dirty girls took it for some reason. The computer lab as a separate little room with a door that shut itself. Good times.

So much fun stuff done while we waited for those 486s to render.
It has been years since I used AutoCAD. It's very likely I'll end up with an AutoCAD job in over a month if I can't get a job elsewhere. I'm TRYING really hard to get something better, but it's like the amount of job postings has greatly decreased at all places I've been applying to. However, at that one company I made the mistake too today (I applied for jobs in IL), I could maybe apply to a position in Sacramento, CA. Only reason I may be slightly hesitant on CA is housing prices, although I would not mind re-locating. I'm single, no family and such.
At this point, you should probably take any job that comes your way.

plus it provides experience... experienced workers are usually more fortunate in finding other employment, unless your skill level is too high for the position you apply for, meaning they'd have to pay you too much salary to do something someone with entry level experience could do.

^^Truth.

I want to gain experience in an electrical environment, so I can get a good job there. Most AutoCAD jobs relate better to Industrial or Mechanical majors it seems (which I'm trying to avoid, since I don't know crap at all about that stuff). Now if the AutoCAD was in relation to cable designs, then it might help.

While I'm gaining some experience, the experience I'm getting isn't really in an area I'm looking at. It also worries me a bit because what helps me a lot right now is my fantastic academic record. Once it goes away, it could lower my value in a way.

If I had a lower paying job but was doing something like PCB design, assembling analog circuits, computer programming, etc., then I could see myself wanting those jobs (because they give me experience in jobs I could see myself doing in the future).

Wii sucks.
I like Wii. But the prices on CD64 games are a HUGE rip-off, which I agree on.

Look Mana, a job is a job, it isn't like it's something you have to do for the rest of your life. Take it until you find something else. Just keep looking while you're working.
the coupon expires five days after you print it. I have three quizno's on the way home from work so maybe it won't be a big deal.

i love quizno's. :D
It's definitely five days after you print it?

So I could wait a week or two to print one, and then still have five days? I'm definitely not using this many before the 28th.

Nevermind, I just looked at the email.
How long do those Quiznos coupons take to arrive...I did mine about 3 hours ago and still nothing.
you get a link in your mail to print out a small sub of your choice. i got mine immediately.

What you're failing to realize is that every month, week, and day you spend out of college without a somewhat technical job is a day that the value of your degree is depricating. If you're still looking for a job a year from now because you want the perfect job for your field, you're going to be competing with every single electrical major that graduated in 2009. Also, in theory, if the hiring company is paying the the same price for you or a similar 2009 graduate, they'll take the 2009 graduate because everything is "fresher" in their mind.

I stepped into the door of my current company using my Technical Communications BS and tried my hand at technical writing -- within 2 years or so of being in the company and doing well at my job, I was able to transition my job to an IT related job in the same area, dealing with writing small scripts/code/automation and such. It's called "getting your foot in the door."
shit, I gotta do a fafsa this week.
Sending Owen to school already, eh?

The only 2 commodore games I can think of that I'd consider paying $5 for would be (definitely) Mail Order Monsters and (maybe) Archon.

This.
Damn...guess it's dead already :whistle2:(
uh, no? 1,000,000 subs to be given away and they're barely under 100,000. a lot of people are getting database errors, though.

also, when you print the coupon, it holds up your internet explorer and print jobs for a couple of minutes before it goes through.
Ya, which means I need to finish my taxes first... yikes.
Do you have to fill out a 1040 Schedule C because you're "self-employed"? Cause I got to try that through Turbo Tax this weekend and I wanted to bash my skull in with a coffee maker.

Naw, I'm applying to a grad program at my school, now that the school offered to waive my application fee and 25% off my tuition. Might as well given that the job search is yielding 0 results.

No, I only earned $500ish self-employed this year (my week in Vegas), I got a W2 since I work for the university most of the time.
Ya, which means I need to finish my taxes first... yikes.
Since I'm still a dependent I have to wait on my mom to file hers and I don't even know if she's sent them off yet to our "people". I might take out loans since I hear they might not force students to pay them back.

Ya, that's a nightmare. This is my first year as an independent, which is fine by me, I get a shitload more back. Plus for grad programs, apparently, they consider you independent regardless of your filing status.

Well that's cool for you. I get a lot of aid because my mom is working a shit job. I usually get enough in grants to cover the semester and my g-ma fronts me the rest, I just want to take out some loans to pay her back and have some left over so I'm not completely broke all semester if I can't find a job.

Ah...I did get a database error but then I got confirmation after that...that may have been it.

Just tried 2 more times no db error...lets see what happens.

Sweet. That makes like 4 confirmed.
I have them both on ignore, but even so I think Kayden wins by a hair.
The whole dependent/independent fafsa rules are annoying. If I have my own mortgage, my own job, my own bills in my name, etc, I should be considered independent however being under 24 means you are dependent. Bullshit.

I know how that goes. My mom sold our house the year before I started college, so she had to file as making like $200k that year. Since I was a dependent, I wasn't eligible for any type of financial assistance.

Ya, I ended up gifting my grandmother my entire savings account which she put in a CD in trust to me. Friggin ridiculous they penalize you for saving money.

I don't think I have met anyone who has qualified for FAFSA. You have to live in a cardboard box to get that shit.

A recruiter called me a few moments ago. Why the fuck do I want to go through a dumb ass temporary service with no job security. Even though it's for a Lexmark job, which is in Lexington of course, I don't trust those crazy bastards. Ah fuck it let's see if they really want me and how many beans they are offering.

That's weird for some reason I thought GMOOJ was JolietJake. I am an idiot and should have seen through that.
That new Tyler Perry movie is #1 over the weekend and made $41 mil...

WTF? Who watches this shit?

Black people...black people watch every black film that comes out.

My wife wanted to see that shit :puke:

I got a real small amount of fafsa, but remember that they give you aid based upon the gap between the cost of attendance and the estimated family contribution.

If you go to a state school, that number is gonna be small, and you're not gonna get much. I went to a $35k/year school, so even with my parents having decent jobs, the gap was still huge. But even then, I didn't get much.

My wife went to go see Confessions OAS Saturday with a friend from work because, I as you know, fuckING refused. She said there was a mile long a line- like opening night of the 2nd Matrix movie. Bass in the parking lot was also, according to her, INSANE.
