Wow...I am really glad they didn't go with the star shaped one. Looks like something Fisher Price would make.

This picture was from Nikkei Business magazine and was posted by JAPTAR10101 on the Nintendo Forums.

That star thing can't be real, can it? The other's look plausable, although I don't know what the point of that "weird looking wavebird" is. I mean how is it different from a wavebird? Can you throw it across the room and it returns to you?

I remember when I first saw the Wiimote I thought Nintendo had completely lost their minds...but what if it had been that Star thing :D

Ahh damn, none of those look appealing at all, and what the hell kind of game would you be able to control with that STAR with the paint chipping off the sides?! It looks like it was found at a rummage sale sometime in the late 80s.
I want those black controllers. They look like futuristic gadgets from the 80s.
Agreed. Say what you want, both those look BADASS.
star thing looks spongy - guess we should be glad we didn't get a sponge covered wiimote.
Tell that to all the people who threw their WiiMotes thru their TV's. :)

Umm... Whats the source on this pic? There were already threads quite a while back with excerpts from a Nintendo PR book that showed the prototpye Wiimotes and none of them looked like anything in that pic.

I wont call it fake, but the Star controller (other than being used soley for Mario Party) makes no sense at all.

Looks like the black controller that is the most Wiimote-like has some technology not included on the Wiimote we all have.

That is, if you scotchtape a piece of paper with a letter written in pencil to the controller, BAM! new button.

I am absolutely convinced that the Star controller had to be used to encase the motion sensing technology in the very early stages of development. You can't expect the Wii Remote to have been the first design for something like this.
I like the Wiimote a whole lot more than I did five seconds ago.
Me too
...I REALLY want to know whats on the flipside of the top right one since it seems to be upside down...
I bet it was a joystick.

I like the one on the top right. I've always thought the Virtual Boy Controller would be awesome if it twisted in the middle and had a thumbstick... ;)

I like how they arranged the controllers in the picture. It looks like the face buttons of the GCN pad where the STAR controller is the A button, B is the Wavebird, and the two other controllers are X and Y

 Well, see, Nintendo was trying to take gaming in a new direction.

That's an interesting idea about it being a prototype just for the motion sensing...

Although it seems like that would look more basic, not like a sponge frisbee with a fancy star...

So I'm still saying bogus.
