The PS3 Online Availability Thread

I think there are a fair number of people who are interested in getting a heads-up when the PS3 is available for order online, but if a new thread is created for each deal it clutters up the forum and also these deals tend to end so quickly that the threads end up in the Deal Graveyard almost immediately, which can make discussion difficult. So if the mods don't mind, I thought it would make sense to have one thread where these things can be posted. It's possible that this would be more appropriate in the PS3 forum, but in the past these deals have been posted here, since it's largely people who already have PS3s that visit the PS3 forum.

I'll start it off with this deal on Walmart.com which is still available as I write this:

20GB PS3
PS2 Memory Card Adapter
2 extra SIXAXIS controllers
Your choice of 10 games
Your choice of 2 blu-ray movies
Price: Starts at $1,251.28 (depending on what you choose, apparently)

This is a pretty egregious bundle, but a lot of people on the PS3 forum at Amazon.com have said that they've had luck just returning what they don't want to a Walmart store, or even calling Walmart.com and canceling what they don't want, so it may not be as bad as it looks.

Man this is a hard choice... get the 20gb or wait for the 60... and can i go back and return these games if i get them?

wtf the 60GB was back up for a few mins but then it went back down before i could put it in my cart, gah take the 2gb or not >.

In my opinion, unless you absolutely have to have wireless or are dying to use your PSP to view video and photos on your PSP, the 20GB is perfectly fine. Just about any USB card reader will work, so you don't really need the built-in one, and the hard disk is easily upgradable if you decide you want to.

What is the wireless exactly? Just wireless internet or wireless controlers? and what are you talking about for the PSP?

Wifi and PSP connectivity.

So i cant connect my PSP to my PSP if i get the 20gb? Is there actualy anything happening with that connectivity?

The 60GB has wi-fi, so you can connect to the internet without cable, and this also allows you to use your PSP to access some content on the PS3's hard disk. You can still connect the PSP to the PS3 with a cable if you get the 20GB, although the "remote play" (viewing video and photos on the PS3 hard disk with the PSP) cannot be used.

I guess it's not that big of a deal, i can just use the controler for that anyway. I'll mull it over but i'll probably bite on this, i really want a PS3. Thanks OP, you've been more then helpful!

Well, it's more than a controller -- you can view video stored on the hard disk using the PS3's screen. From what I hear it's not that great a feature at the moment, but I haven't tried it.

Whoa that is pretty neat... can you play games and watch stuff on the smaller screen at the same time? Why wouldnt you just watch it on your TV?

It's limited to video, photos and music right now (and it's only video files, not DVDs or Blu-ray movies). And at the moment, using the feature ties up your PS3, so you can't use the PS3 to play games or anything while viewing content on the PSP. In the future, there's going to be some use of the PSP in games (maybe as a secondary view screen or something) but I think that will work fine with a cable.

The idea is that you can watch your videos or listen to your music in other rooms of your house (since it's wireless) but it's up to you whether you think that would be something you would like to do.

Forget getting one online for a a couple of months at least, then.

Yea you're right, but its alright I can hold out.

You forgot about the chrome.
How this is not sold out yet is just amazing me, it's been longer then an hour and the site isnt even slow.
I'd assume nobody wants the 20GB.

Well, partially it's just because it went live at like 4AM.

If that's the case, then the 60 GB shouldn't have sold out so fast. Unless, they only had like 10 of them or something. It might have mistakenly showed up.

It was live at 1:45 AM at the latest, because that's when it was posted in the PlayStation 3 forum (how I found out about it), and the 60GB was still available at around 2:40 (when I ordered mine).

Central time? But anyway, the point was not the exact time, but rather that it started at a time when most people are asleep.

It is still there as of 4:30 AM Pacific. I guess nobody wants 10 games, 2 Blu-Ray movies from a pathetic selection, and 2 (?) extra controllers. I guess if you could be guaranteed to be able to return them that is one thing. Too much hassle for me for the 20GB model, that's for sure. Plus if I ever buy one at full retail, particularly in a bundle, I'd wait for Costco (warranty).

I just picked up the Circuit City 60GB bundle.
60GB PS3, wireless controller, and memory card adapter.
That is it! I was very lucky. Even free shipping.
Now, I'll believe it when I see it sitting at my front door.

Same here, except I only got the system and controller... and went ahead and cancelled my Wal-Mart order. Anyone know if we'll be able to take the controller back?

circuit city says sold out is there another link???

I assume that's no longer available, but please in the future link to deals like that in this thread when you find them.

For what it's worth this may also be available at B&M stores as well. I walked into Walmart (Fairlawn, OH) at 8:10 AM this morning looking for a Wii. Of course they were all gone by then and the electronics department was deserted. But they had a 20GB PS3 in stock so I bought it.

Frustrating since I want the Wii, not the PS3. My brother in law wants the PS3 so I'm probably going to give it to him. Guess it's more waiting in line for me to play Santa and make my son's christmas.

Yes, it is sometimes available at B&M stores as well, but supplies are so limited and they sell out so quickly that at this point it's very much a question of being in the right place at the right time. I gave up on trying to track one down locally and decided to go for an online bundle, since it was taking way too much of my time trying to figure out where to go and when.

Looks like Sony got a new batch of the 60GB models out. Up until now it's been mostly 20GB models available online.

Holding out for the 60GB. Any word on when the white system will be released?I assume at least a year from now but didn't know if there was a definate date.
