The PSP Import Game Thread

Seeing how I live in Japan, I have easy access to these "imports" you all speak of. ;)

BUT, as I'm just getting into the homebrew scene, I haven't played anything newer than Talkman as I don't want to update my firmware just yet.

Anywho, here's my list:
Guilty Gear XX# Reload - My favorite fighting series, and its pretty decent on PSP, but I can't understand why the graphics took such a hit. Still plays very well.
Brain Trainer - I'm waiting for the US versions of the DS ones so I can't really compare them, but it has some fun math/logic puzzles. Easy menus and such too.
Taiko no Tatsujin - Best PSP game I own. Its just SO much fun and the song list is great (if you like more recent Japanese/video game music). HIGHLY recommended.
Space Invaders Galaxy Beat - $12 off Play Asia, sounded great in descriptions, kinda sucks.
Talkman - I was so excited to get this at first but I played it once and haven't taken it out of the box again since. It just feels like a touristy gimmick more than a true speech translator. For what it does, it does well however (mostly basic phrases and stuff I already knew)

I have Taiko no tatsujin. Just like Gameboy says, it is fun and I'm happy I bought it. I had Intelligent license but I traded it in because the US version came out.

So far the only import I'm willing to get is I.Q. Mania. I might trade this in IF it comes to the US. Then again, I might keep this and leave the US one sealed.

Theres GG:X, Bleach 2 and DJ Max I wouldn't mind getting but I can wait until it goes lower.

You guys are gonna love Tales of Eternia! Best non emulated handheld RPG I've played by far. If you're always complaining that all the PSP gets is ports maybe you'll hate it, but if you want a great port of a decent PS1 RPG give it a look.

Can you elaborate a bit on Taiko no tatsujin? I've seen it at Starland and was sorely tempted to buy it, but I'm just not sure how much fun it would be. I have Taiko Drum Master for PS2, and playing it on a PSP without drums seems about as fun as playing DDR without a dance pad. The song list for the PSP game is terribly tempting, though.

My Dad's in the UK right now and he's picking up Tales of Eternia for me while he's there... I can't fuckin' wait. What I played of the PS1 version was fantastic so having an excellent RPG like this on a portable will be very cool.

The only difference between the two is the use of the analog stick (and drums). They addded a function where there's a "bell". When that shows up, you move the stick around. Also consider that it's for a portable, so for that it's fun for what it can do.

Has Tales of Eternia been confirmed for the U.S.? I take it that the U.K. version is in English?

Is this worth importing?

Edit: I just noticed EU is getting Lemmings. I can't find any info about a release for the U.S. Why is the U.S. being shafted for all the good games. Thank goodness there is no region protection.

The European version is in English. Eternia hasn't been confirmed for the US and I wouldn't expect it to come out here honestly. It was already released on the PS1 and it's a 2D game... Sony hates sprites, so we get shafted a lot of the time. And if the game makes the jump from Japan to the UK and doesn't come out in the US, then something's up... it's just not logical at this point to expect a US release.

Sweet! I'm importing then.

Soon I will have a spankin new copy of Tales for on the go goodness.

Never got to play the Tales games on Playstation. I take it Tales of Destiny II has really nothing to do with the first one then? Since they did not release it previous.

I have a problem with that based on the fact that if Sony really hated sprites why would they only alienate one market? That just doesn't make sense.

I know that Sony wanted only 3D titles for the launch of the PlayStation (3D Mega Man >

I think that the original Tales of Destiny was a direct sequel to Tales of Phantasia on the SNES... though TOD 1 wasn't supposed to be very good. TOD 2 is a seperate storyline altogether.

Any ideas why the EU gets it and we don't though? Don't they follow the same procedures for determining what games to release?

This probably means no Lemmings in the US then for sure. Hardly the most popular game around.

Well I'm sure that SCEA has different criteria based on the fact that American audiences and European audiences want different things. In America, most people want shit games (50 Cent: Bulletproof, 25 to Life, etc.) US gamers generally think that 2d = old and 3D = better. Thats' why we get screwed. In Europe, people want racing games, but they're not so focused on graphics over there which is why 2D games can slip through.

Breath fo fire III is out in EUR. Easily the best in the series. BoF3 and ToE requires 2.0

As for the real Tales of Destiny 2, it is release for PS2 in Japan. The story is actually after the first game.

I just preordered Tales of Eternia EU from NCSX. They said it should ship Monday on the site.

Can't wait!

Tales of Destiny II U.S. is Tales of Eternia in Japan. the TRUE Tales of Destiny II came later in Japan and as far as I know has not been released any place else. That is as much as I could find out. So, the Playstation Tales of Destiny II is not a true sequel to Tales of Destiny on Playstation.
It's kinda wierd. They aren't completely phasing out 2D games, but they are definitely not supporting them too much. I remember hearing that SNK couldn't release their older games on Sony's system which is why they had to do compilations. That's why the US never got Metal Slug 3 on the PS2. I think it's basically the same situation with Eternia... it's a rerelease of an older game (albeit, an improved rerelease) so Sony's not going to bother. BOF III on the PSP probably went through the same thing.
Doubtful... they allowed Legend of Heroes out here, along with Popolocrois... both games are 2D "old school" RPG's, so I see no reason why some of the biggest companies in the market, Namco and Capcom, would have any trouble pushing any of their games out here, 2D or not. Hell, Capcom just had an improved re-release in Street Fighter Alpha 3.

I'm not sure whats going on, but Capcom would have no trouble at all bringing out Breath of Fire III if they wanted to, they have that much of a pull as a company, likewise with Namco.

NCSX wants $49 before shipping... ouch... I think I will hold off a bit longer for a release here, espically on BoF 3.

Link..?

I must be really stupid, because I can't find a preorder link at all.

Not sure, but Gameplay.co.uk might have the game cheaper.

Luckily, I get to skip all the importing shit because my dad's on business in the UK right now and grabbed me a copy.

Maybe I'll spring for Tales of Eternia, if I ever get a job... but I'm confident Capcom will bring Breath of Fire 3 here, probably for $30 since its just a straight port.

They bring everything else over, no reason not to announce this one as well.

Gameplay.co.uk has BoF 3 for $44.59, while Tales of Eternia is $53.

Does NCSX still have that expensive shipping? That's really the main thing that deters me.

Anybody have any experience importing from England? I bought WRC a little over two weeks ago from a guy on Ebay with great feedback. I have yet to get it....is it pretty normal for it to take this long?

Tales of Eternia is great! Lots of voice acting, great fighting engine, you can save all over the place. FMV hot as hell. There are a few bugs though so you may want to wait for the US version. A lot of Eupopean PSP gamers complain that they're the beta testers for the US.
Wasn't as impressed with Breath of Fire 3. The graphics look like they're from the SNES.
Zero Type Plane Battle I didn't really care for (wouldn't a Warhawks port rock?), and Taiko Drum Master is not for people who can't speak Japanese.
Guilty Gear XX Reload is incredible. Fighting games are underrepresented on the PSP.
F1 Grand Prix is fun, reminiscent of Super Monaco GP from Genesis launch, phenomonal frame rate, real drivers; simple but fun.

My Tales of Eternia came today. I'm going to do some homework then try and put in a couple hours on it. I can report back what I think if anyone is interested.

Just beat Tales of Eternia.

I sat through all the credits and pretty short and pointless ending movies. Then it asks me to save, so I saved.

However, when I go to load game, it starts me a new game where my main character starts off at level 8!!! WTF?!?! I'm officially pissed!!!

My saved data even shows my main characters ending stats, my gald, and my 3 main sidekicks levels, HP, and TP.

I feel like I have nearly wasted 40 hours. I wanted to go back and complete some side quests. Now I have to beat it again?

If someone knows some trick I don't know about I would happy to hear about it, but I think I'm screwed.

I feel seriously ill
Good God, $54? Estarland likes to rape you in the ass with their prices.
Got mine at gameplay.co.uk

They sell it for £29.99

Standard Street Price is £34.99

The $1.00 you have from the USA is equal to about £0.575509 (as of the time of this post)

So they sell it for $52.11
Standard Street Price is $60.80

Its not eStarland that likes to rape you, its the value of your dollar (or lack of) in other countries.

BTW: You usually also have to pay a fee to do the currenct exchange with your credit card, that will probably take the game up a couple of dollars more.

Credits cards may charge more to due currency exchanges than money houses, even the exchange houses charge you. I think when I went to Mexico I would loose $5 on every $200 exchanged.

Now breath of Fire III is $52.95 at eStarland, Street is £29.99 ($52.11) gampleplay is £24.99 ($43.42)
They may be a bit high on that one, but still not rape with the exchange fee taken in to consideration.
FYI, if anyone still wants the UK version Wipeout for PSP Liksang just got some in:

http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=218&products_id=7985&likref=alert554

Free shipping and it may be a tad bit cheaper than getting it from Europe directly with the current currency rates.
rad. thanks for the heads up. currency exchange rates have been ass lately, so i was holding off. does your uk version work ok with the omega packs on your us psp? thanks again, man.

Figured this was the best place to ask this... Tales of Eternia keeps freezing on me at the ruins of Volt when I've got to press the white switch. I'm wondering if anyone else had this same problem and how to fix it?

GameFAQs has a whole thread on it but they are idiots over there.

If anyone who has ToE wants to get me past that part if I send them my save file, and then send it back, I would GREATLY appreciate it.
