You guys thinking paying 60 - 100 bucks for something like Suikoden 2 and Rez is bad, I've got that beat. You're probably already thinking "rarest game on NES? pfft, it's dragon warrior 4 possibly". The answer will shock and amaze you.

It's Flintstones: Surprise at Dinosaur Peak by Taito.

Don't believe me?

115 bucks for a cart only copy, and look at the complete version - over 300 dollars!!

Why is this game so rare? Besides being released in very limited quantities at the very tail end of the NES's life span, one of the auctions deems it was only a rental - whether they are lying or not, I'm not sure, as it's hard to find any information on the game.

I played it on an emulator a few years ago... it's a decent platformer, if not a little generic. I share this information with all my CAG friends because many of us hit up flea markets, pawn shops, yard sales, and see lots of old NES games daily, and iwe're 100% guaranteed to pass on a Flintstones game not knowing why it's important.

But it in the title that this is probably the rarest licensed game to hit the NES, so that throws out all the non licensed games.

If anyone wants some other games that are hard to come by (yet don't command nearly the price tag of Flintstones 2), try these on for size -

Contra Force
Mighty Final Fight (though this seems to have dropped price in the last few years)
Fire n Ice
Dragon Warrior 2 - 4
Adventure Island 4 (haven't seen this on ebay for awhile, so i'm not sure)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters

Generally anything made late into the NES's life was made in smaller quantities, thus harder to come by.

I'd love to get my hands on Flintstones 2, just to have it and play it, but I don't think it'll happen in my lifetime... would be nice to go to the flea market and see someone selling it for 3 bucks or so

This is the sequel, correct?

Unless I'm mistaken, I think the game's actual title is "The Flintstones 2: Surprise at Dinosaur Peak."

Yep, it's the sequel.

If you take a look at the auction for the game complete, you can see there is no 2 in the title... sellers just add it in there so people know it's the sequel and not the overly common first game (Rescue of Dino and Hoppy).

And Gamedude: most people know about the World Championship cart... however a large majority of people don't know that Flintstones 2 can fetch this sort of price, espically for a licensed game. I wonder how many CAG's have seen it and just thought "eh, licensed crap" and passed it over :D

I've had 3 copies of the cart, never seen the manual or box in person though. Actually sold one to a fellow collector for $8 since he needed it to finish his collection, I paid $5 so it seemed fair.

There never was an Adventure Island 4 released on the NES. Are you sure you don't mean Adventure Island 3?

What about Cheetahmen 2? That cart beats out Fintstones 2 in terms of rarity easily and I hardly ever hear anyone talk about it.

You are all forgetting about Stadium Events. This game can go for about $400 on ebay. Other rare games are the 3 Panesian games and Caltron 6 in 1.

Adventure Island 4 was released for the NES, but just not in the US.

And I'll throw it in the OP that Flintstones 2 is probably the rarest LICENSED game.

Stadium Events is pretty well known. Are the others licensed?

Yeah, Stadium Evetns and the NCW are RARE and worth money, but most people wouldn't look tiwce at a Flintstones 2 game.

It makes me mad I had Flintstones SADP about 8 months ago and sold it on Ebay for around $85 cart only. The money was nice at the time but I should have held on to it. Hell I use to have over 500 games with a top loader and sold it all on ebay for around $550. That was one of the stupidest things I'd ever done because I had games like Snow Brothers, Duck Tales 2, Dusty Diamond, Dodgeball, etc. Nothing extremely rare but if I would have sold all the stuff seperatly I would have netted around 1,500-2,000 instead of 550 :whistle2:/

I don't know which Flinstone's game I actually played, but it was really fun. Especially 2 player.

There was little mini games where you would play each other. One of the games was basketball, fred v barney.

Anyone know if that is this one or the first Flinstone's game?

I THINK thats the first one but its been a while since I played. It may actually be on both the games because I have played them both and they were similiar.

I actually remember renting and beating Flinstones many times when I was around 5 or 6 years old from this walmart esque store called Pharmore....If only i knew back then.

Ha, another big (but less horrible) mistake on my part...my older bro and I always shared our old video games, and when I was maybe 10 or 11, I sold him my half of everything we had for like $50. Included in the set was a complete copy of Bubble Bobble Part 2, as well as complete copies of all four Dragon Warriors. He probably still has them (lucky bastard).

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8206602160&category=4315&ssPageName=WDVW&rd=1 it's only 440 something...
holy fuck i saw one of these cart only at my EBgames for 5.99 yesterday... that 2.99 after the 50% off discount

holy shit
i pretty much guarantee that all u saw was the original flintstones: rescue of something

It is important to note that this game was only available at Blockbuster for rent (like 1 or 2 copies per store) which is why its so rare. For someone who said they rented it at Pharmor most be thinking of the original Flintstones as Surprise at Peak is the second one. Also, Bubble Bobble 2 was a blockbuster only rental as well. Thus the only place to buy them would be at Blockbuster preowned, making it so hard to find it complete. I imagine if someone ever found a Bubble Bobble 2 or Flintstones 2 new and sealed that the final bids would top $1,000 simply because it would be one of very few, if any, in existence.

Damn, think ahead 20 or 30 years. I wonder if these games will continue to go up in value or be forgotten and become worthless. Hm...

Guess it depends on whether people are still collecting games by then.

well.. all things have value.. my question is.. the things that we think are common now (like SMB/DH) FF7, sports games.. think of their value years and years down the line as most people just throw them or get rid of them.. i see their value rising 20 years down the line

yup

I had that game and traded it. Its crazy how much some people will pay. I traded it for 2 nes's, an n64, genesis games and some other crap

Thanks for the heads-up on that one. I used to be really familiar with the rarity list (in fact, I used to have a copy printed out in the car for garage sale hunting) but I didn't remember this. Not enough time to go out looking for games these days.

If I ever found one it would go right up on ebay, and with the sale money get me a complete copy of Dragon Warrior IV. I miss my box/instructions, dunno where they went as a kid :(
