The Steam discussion topic! Joy and happiness, right here, folks.

Im having a problem with steam. I have a ps3 copy of portal 2 and redeemed the steam key on release day. After going to my steam library to play some portal 2 I found it was missing, the physical files are still where theyre supposed to be but its been erased from my library and my account. There is no longer a listing for it in my licenses record either.

I was curious if anybody else has had a problem like this, specifically if anybody with the ps3 linked version of portal 2 is having this issue.

It also bothers me that games can not only be removed from my library but the records of activating the key or purchasing them can be removed as well.

Odd, I linked mine on release day and it's still showing in my Steam list.
what happens if you play on PS3 and hit SELECT in game, does it show on your overlay?

Yes, it brings up the overlay showing everything as it should. Hopefully I hear from steam support soon. This experience has me bothered, I have a lot of games, if this was something I had not played its possible I dont know its gone and cant prove I ever had it. I think I am going to start keeping a separate log of what I have and when/how I purchased it just in case.

It's in your played list. Try making a shortcut with this as the target:

steam://rungameid/620

I did that yesterday, I can launch the game but I cant actually play it.

And what happens when you go to the P2 store page? Does it say you already own it? There should be an install button there if you own it.

No, its been erased from my account, the license is no longer listed. If I didnt have time played there would be nothing to show that I ever owned it.
^I also linked mine on list day and it's still there. Sounds like a job for Steam support.
I submitted a support ticket a couple days ago. So far their support isn't winning any points.

It's Memorial Day weekend.

Do you work in support for the largest digital pc game service?
Also my displeasure with their support had more to do with their initial canned response than to their lack of timeliness.

I don't think you're get much sympathy from this crowd. STEAM is awesome and not to be questioned or accused. Didn't you know?

Well, my only experience with having to contact them was over the last last holiday sale where I accidentally bought something on someone else's account. I got a response within a day and they refunded my money.

I'm not saying that my one experience is how it will always be, but I guess what I am saying is these are circumstances out of the ordinary, what with it being Memorial Day weekend.

However, this is not, and probably won't be, the last time I hear Steam support is pretty slow and that they give many canned responses.

Really, Bioshock 2? Had to load you three times with various and sundry GFWL installations before I could even start playing.

Which other games on Steam do this bullphooey?

Red Faction Guerrilla has been really bad for this as well. The game itself was great though.

So because they work for Steam they aren't allowed to take a vacation with the rest of the country? I'm not saying their customer support cant be bad at times, but to act like all their employees should be there just because of it being Steam seems dumb. I could see if you sent out an email between Monday and Wednesday, but it was the day before vacation.

That said, unless you provide them with a truly unique question or a bunch of information, they are very likely to give an initial canned response. It can be annoying, but usually after the second message they'll have someone specifically handle you. Slightly slow, but their customer service is actually pretty good with working with their customers when compared to the large number of companies with shitty CS.

You're quoting me and critiquing a position that employees aren't allowed to take vacation, which I did not make.

My comment was that their customer service isn't winning any points with me.

And I didn't?

What is your personal experience with their customer support? Have you provided them with a truly unique question or a bunch of information to support your comment?

It would be nice to hear specifics rather than what seems like a generalized position.

My opinion so far is that their customer support is lazy. They did not read my question, which is supported by an only slightly applicable general response.
And really it is only my opinion, my minimal experience with their support is that it is not a primary concern to their business.

If the end result is they tell me to take a hike it will be a different story, I expect the problem to be corrected but it would have been nice to deal with a cs rep that did more than what I have received so far.

I've had to deal with Steam support numerous times, whether it be password resets, game activation issues, or purchase issues. It just depends on who answers your question. I've gotten immediate response before that wasn't canned, and I have gotten the canned response that you're talking about.

Is Steams CS the greatest of all time? No, but it is far from what you'd call "lazy".

haha, no its exactly what I call lazy. maybe not what you'd cal lazy though. They did not read my problem, if it is a person and not an automated response it is lazy for them to respond the way they did. Its not that big of a deal really. Im not furious or anything, I just expect more, would have liked better service. Im not going to boycott steam , or say they suck or anything of the sort (if they dont take care of the problem I'll feel differently).

From what youre saying its luck of the draw on what type of support you get, like it is with a lot of companies.

Anyway, thats probably enough about their support. Have you or anybody else here had issues with games going missing from yoru account? not the funky stuff that a restart fixes, like actually removed completely from your account? This worries me, Ive had the false sense of security that my steam account is secure. I created a spreadsheet to log all my purchases, keys, and other game info just in case this problem isnt unique.

Just ended up picking up Frozen Synapse after a friend bought it and hocked the spare copy to me. In short, totally get it if you like mind games strategy. I'll give a long form answer if anybody wants, but it's an excellent game for only $10, not too much of a risk.

EDIT: Should mention, some of the network stuff is slooooooooooooow. Game can take ~1 minute to send & load a turn on the server.

it looks like its selling pretty well. I might have to check it out. I am surprised by how many of my friends are buying it.

Yep, and the servers are showing the stress. The developers have seemed very cool so far, so I'm sure they'll beef up their servers to provide. But as it stands, the amount of time it takes to log in, get in a match, commit an action, have the server do all the math, and then load the turn is pretty unacceptable.

If you've got a new Sandy Bridge processor you can activate Steam Guard which makes you have to register any PC that tries to log into your account if you're worried that someone may have gained access without your permission.

I dont have a sandy bridge but my account requires registration of a new pc using my account. I was referring to the contents of my account being secure, not so much by outside intrusion.

Anyone check out Dirt 3 yet? I'm a little bit hesitant on grabbing it as there are apparently some serious crashing issues and the game looks worse than Dirt 2 yet requires more horsepower.

No firsthand experience, but from what I hear, they got away from the dudebrah sweet totally awesome vibe of 2, and brought it more back to just straight up racing. They also got away from some of the more streetish racing, and more back to the rally/dirt racing.

Again, that's all second hand info. The Dirt games have dropped like a rock in the past though, so it couldn't hurt to wait on it.

Has anyone seen a release date for Torchlight 2? Its supposed to come out this month but from what I see there is still no release date or pre order. My gut says this will be pushed back.

I got it ('m also a dolphins fan), and I think it's awesome. I got Dirt 2 free when I preordered 3 on steam, and I'm having more fun with Dirt 3.

I think it looks just as good as 2 (I'm running everything on high in both games at 1920x1080), and I generally like the racing better. Gymkahna (sp?) is a lot of fun too.

I've not had any crashing issues at all on Windows 7 (64 bit).

It already has been delayed. It was originally slated to come out around May-June, but they pushed it back to July due to the development of Torchlight for XBLA.

Also...

"Schaefer added that Torchlight 2 should receive some "optimizations and technical improvements," originally created for the XBLA Torchlight. Notably, the sequel should now benefit from reduced load times and improved animation."

Bah god I am stupid...had the months totally mixed up. Cant believe I did that....funny thing is that I have been excited for June for E3 and July for Torchlight 2....yet for some reason I thought both were this month. Dont know how that brain fart happened!
