HL2 sucked.

HL2 doesn't suck. Play it on something other than a 9600 and it will make a big difference. Ravelholm is one of the best levels in a shooter ever, and the whole return to City 17 section is awesome.

Episode 1 is also really good.
I don't see any Half-Life 2 / BioShock similarities, beyond a few superficialities. (Telekinesis / gravity gun, wielding a wrench as a melee weapon / wielding a crowbar as a melee weapon).
The main character doesn't talk and there are no real cutscenes, the story revolves around an unlucky person thrown into a situation in which all hope appears lost and he is the savior, and the game world is a dystopia with a provincial figure head running things and causing all the chaos.

Other games have used this same formula, and I don't have a problem with it, but this game does have a lot in common with Half Life 2.

When it's simplified, like that, it sounds like a laundry list of other video games.

I know it is simplified, but it is still basically a copy and paste of the half life formula. Like I said, other games have done the same thing (like FEAR), and I don't have a problem with it, but with the way the gameplay is structured along with the setting I could see how comparisons are drawn.

That's my point, though. It's not the "Half-Life 2" formula. It's been done before, as it's a common theme in story telling.

Beyond the story being summed up, in a footnote, they're two entirely different tales.

Ackbar's "It's not that good because Half-Life did it" argument is a forehead slapper.

Well it basically is the half life formula, since that is where it originated.

Edit: I need to stop talking about Bioshock as I really want to play it, and my copy has not gotten here yet.
