• *Amazon email sent out to those who signed up for Wii U pre-order notification:
Dear Amazon.com Customer,

Thank for you signing up to be notified when the Wii U is available.
Unfortunately the Wii U console is not available at Amazon.com at this time but please check back in the future, as availability may change. We do have the latest Wii U games and accessories available now so check them out. Thank you for shopping with Amazon Video Games.
There should be a poll:

Are you pre-ordering the Wii-U?

a) No, I have no interest [insert your most outrageous comment supporting your console of choice]

b) No, I am going to wait for a price drop [and/or better games]

c) Yes, because I genuinely believe that the Wii-U is an awesome piece of hardware [insert your favorite Nintendo fan-boy/girl comment here]

d) Yes, because I am going to SELL IT FOR PROFIT!!! [to suckers when there are none left in stock during the holidays]

And now I am actually kind of curious what the results of this poll would be...
My situation is a combination of "a" and "d." Though I think the lukewarm reception of this console might make it like the PS3 launch which after a week you could find the console everywhere and a lot of resellers ended up returning them.

I' preordered one at best buy for in store pick up, but if there is no money to be made reselling it's going back cause I think this thing is a joke and will be dead in the water next year when the next Xbox and PlayStations hit the market.
Ugh - Is Best Buy taking PreOrders in store? I don't want my card held for the full amount yet as I am planning on buying the new iPhone.
I went to my local BB last night with the SKU number and the guy looked it up in their system. The SKU was acting as if I was buying the console today. They called over the supervisor and I was told that the system update to start taking pre-orders was supposed to start in store today (9/14).

I kind of take these things with a grain of salt but I will stop by today to check again.

I got this, too. I had forgotten there was a time when I was actually considering pre-ordering this.
Given that they no longer sell the Wii, DS/3DS/3DS XL (except through Marketplace sellers) - I wouldn't be so sure.

Order somewhere else and don't count on Amazon this round...
Perhaps this GAF link should be wiki-stickied to the OP? Just cuz it sheds some light on the whole Amazon situation. Or else we might have 100 more pages of curiosity on the subject. And I don't blame anybody - cuz at this point nobody is gonna scroll thru 20+ pages.

That would be great to know. I am planning on going in on Saturday to Pre-Order my phone. Hopefully the order will still be available at the store I am going to.

That's what I was told from the phone girl at my BB. She said that they sent an email out stating that. I'm not going to let go of my two GS orders though. I love BB but I don't trust them with this launch.

My local GameStop is approaching 100 pre-orders (they couldn't fill their Wii preorders day of release), my Best Buy online is not taking any more pre-orders and I just reserved my system at Toys R Us where people started showing up at 3am. They can't all be flippers can they? Should be interesting come November!

Unlike a lot of the Wii downers, the Wii still gets played in my house. Of course not as much as my 360 but the Wii is still good fun.

I can't get over all the people saying $350 is WAAAYYYYY too much. :whee: That's crazy talk, and here's why:

For one: it's a NEW CONSOLE building off the huge success of their last one, of course it's not going to be free. duh. :dunce:

It could be worse, way worse, like by a bunch...

Just as an example, the new iphone??? want more memory,? sure... here's 16gb more... $100 please :wall: How many current gen consoles let you use WHATEVER memory you want... that'd be nobody people. That is a GREAT $$$ saving feature. :applause:

Now, how many current gen consoles ( ima start callin this CGCs ) let you use last gens controllers and peripherals... yep, NONE! Also a great $$$ saving feature. Actually pretty huge if you think about it... To replace the 4 wii + remotes and 2 nunchucks I already have I'd have to shell out $200. If I want a balance board that I already have too it's another $100. I have a wireless sensor bar for another $20. And those silly little things like steering wheels and golf clubs would be about $50... That's $370 saved, thank's Wii U! :applause:

No Gamecube??? WHAT!!! Please, no other CGCs even give you all of last gens games, Wii U does... GREAT feature. :joystick:

One of the coolest features imo, and one I haven't seen anyone talking about, is the fact that the new controller will also be a universal touchpad remote. That, is, COOL! I have a logitech Harmony One which is hands down the best remote ever made in the history of the world, just ask CNET.com. If you don't currently have a kick arse universal remote then you my friend are in for a treat. A remote of this type, that is only a remote, and that's it, is going to run you about $175!!! Super Awesome To The Max feature! :bouncy:

*sidenote - just saw sears is selling the harmony one on sale atm for $120, that's a steal, go buy one!

Back on track...

So, if we go with the "real" consoles approach to this the Wii U would cost me:

$350 to start
$100 for a tad more memory built in cuz you can't add your own
$370 to replace my controllers and extras and such

and I'm looking at a start cost of about $820... with no super awesome universal remote and NO OTHER GAMES!!!

Yes, it could be much, much, worse.

Now, as for what my purchase plan is... If Amazon indeed does not sell these then I will be bringing my talents, and my red card, to Target. That 5% off almost gets rid of the Tax and they'll let me use any coupon I might have too! Thanks for your time. ;)

Went with a Deluxe for store pickup at the closest Best Buy (40 miles one-way). Will cancel if I can get a Newegg (or Amazon) preorder.

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of them were. After the whole Wii thing, I can see tons of people wanting a quick buck.

Hopefully online retailers doesn't shaft people by saying oh we ran out of stock on launch day, you need to wait. My preorder is locked in on Gamestop.com but only an Amazon preorder would give me certainty that I get it as close to launch as possible from an online retailer.

Wow.. awhile back I signed up on Amazon to be notified about WiiU (So I wouldnt miss the rush)
I get an email today.

Lol... Yea, Glad I went to Gamestop yesterday and got it #1 and not waited on Amazon.

That neogaf thread doesn't make any sense, though, does it? Amazon is selling Nintendo consoles in other countries. Nintendo, if they were going to punish Amazon for the Kindle, would not be letting them sell Nintendo consoles anywhere. Plus why would they be punishing them for the Kindle, and not punishing Best Buy and others for selling the Kindle, nook, etc? So that line of thought doesn't make any sense to me. There's got to be some other hissy fit going on between NOA and Amazon.

Eh, despite my misgivings about this console I decided to put in a preorder through Best Buy. I figure it can't hurt if something wows me between now and launch I'll definitely be able to get it. If not, I can always just cancel/return the preorder without losing any money.
I have zero interest in this Wii U. It's a system for suckers at 300 and 350. Buy a real system instead: PS3 or 360.
Already got both now I want this. Calling people names will buy you alot of disrespect.
Is it pretty easy to cancel an online pre-order from Best Buy?
you just have to call them and they cancel it. They normally don't ask questions and just do it.

Damn, I was hoping to be able to just do it online, I hate calling into BB. But oh well, already checked out with a Deluxe pre-order, so too late now.

Thanks.

You should be able to do it online as long as it doesn't get into a shipping soon situation. You just check your order details and right next to your item should be a little box you can check that says cancel item. They didn't used to let you but they have for awhile now.

Just checked the wii U I ordered from them to make sure and the cancel item box is there so you should be good.

For BestBuy.com orders, the option to cancel is there when you check your order status online.

I'm pretty sure you can easily cancel it online. Just sign into your bestbuy.com account, view the order, select the item to cancel and hit "cancel selected item." In my experience it is quick and painless, though I've never canceled such an expensive order.

Yup, the cancel option is there. Thanks guys!

The number of Best Buy stores closest to me that now have the deluxe set listed as "unavailable" has climbed to 7. It was at 3 or 4 about an hour ago.

Ya me too. Only 2 stores left on my list, both about 40 miles away. That's why I just did the shipping option.

the few times I had to cancel the order I did the online and it said unable to cancel please call; so now I just call!

I signed up long ago to receive an e-mail from Best Buy when pre-orders started. I love how I just now got the "Wii U console now available for pre-order" notification e-mail. And 7 out of 10 stores within 90 miles of me are already sold out of the deluxe set. Boy am I glad I was following this thread and obsessively checking bestbuy.com when pre-orders started!
the few times I had to cancel the order I did the online and it said unable to cancel please call; so now I just call!
Ah, I see. My experience is usually just canceling blu-rays I ordered that got the "not found in store" e-mail. I've never gotten that message.

I think so many people are down on the Wii-U including myself because it brings nothing new to the table other than the "gamepad," is equidistant technology to what has been on the market for 7 years, and still excludes features that other consoles offer like achievements/trophies. Battery life in the "gamepad" is horrendous. Adding a second gamepad to the system gimps it to almost unplayable. There are just far to many negatives and only a questionable positive. Couple that with 3rd parties will likely dump the system as soon as the next Xbox and PlayStation hit the market and things aren't looking to bright for the Wii-U.

That said the 3DS seems to have weathered a similar storm where it brought improved graphics and only a questionable new feature (glasses free 3d) to the market, and poor battery life, yet it somehow is selling. So while I can predict doom and gloom, you just never know.

All of the stores in my area have only the 8GB one now. Maybe they did in fact sell out of the 32GB, but I'll be headed in today to double check anyway. I'm glad I got my two backups already planned. I'd still prefer BB over GS though.

The Wii U has an achievement system. They are not requiring games to have achievements, but they have a system level achievements system in place and games can use it if they want. At least that's what Reggie said back at E3 and I don't see any reason to believe they've changed that.

Other controllers can be used without "gimping the system". A second tablet gamepad would lower the frame rate on the tablets themselves (I don't believe it lowers the frame rate on the TV - the issue is just streaming bandwidth and keeping the performance up in that), and certainly you can use 4 pro controllers or remote/nunchuck, plus the gamepad for 5 players, etc. That is not worse than any other console, and indeed you've got more control options than other platforms and 5 player local games.

Cool, I hope games utilize it. I mean I am not an achievement whore, but it's nice to say oh I bet the game, and then have the achievement as proof.

I just preordered in store at Gamestop (32Gig ver). Still not sure about the Wii U, but I don't want any regrets. We'll see. I'm still happy with my PS3 and Xbox though.

Ordered from BB with shipping since the closest store available for pickup is 40 miles away. I don't want it, but my nephew does and he is going to pay for most if not all of it.

Gonna wait for a Metroid title before I plunk down into this thing. My Wii got maybe 40 hours of play total since I had it (and that was the 1st version of the Wii).

Yeah, the rumor is that they're called "Accomplishments". I don't understand why Nintendo wouldn't make it mandatory though. If that hasn't already changed, I think it will soon.

Just got my target pre order in with 5% red card savings. For everyone asking about free game promos etc...its a long shot but with the Wii target had b2g1 for games on launch day. Hopefully it happens again. They also have pre order cards in store for games with $5 GC each.

How true is it that your card is not billed until the system is released? I've heard/seen so many people say that, but I'm scared to go ahead and preorder it and find out I'm billed same day as my financial aid won't be in my account for a few more weeks. :S

Man, there must be a lot of flippers in here judging by the response. Surely you guys aren't being suckered by Nintendo again, right? RIGHT?!
Man, there must be a lot of flippers in here judging by the response.
Well this is CAG...so yes, obviously.

Just got back from best buy and WAS able to pre-order in-store. Both systems show up in their little kiosk now. $5.00 down just like games.

Just preordered one at Gamestop. The manager said they were cutting off preorders in 3 hours or so. Said that the district was over 300 preorders as of yesterday.
