Hey Linkin, how do you propose one should probe the quantum world?
When there's 100% certainty that whatever experiment they come up with can't go wrong and destroy the planet.
When there's 100% certainty that whatever experiment they come up with can't go wrong and destroy the planet.
Pussy.

EDIT: Also, fuck your uncertainty. Uncertainty is the only thing moving science.
When there's 100% certainty that whatever experiment they come up with can't go wrong and destroy the planet.
Hey Linkin, what if I told you that there is a 100% chance that it won't destroy the planet and that the thousands of PhDs and physicists working on the LHC actually, you know, know what they're doing?

Hey Linkin, are you 100% certain your kid won't grow up to be a new Hitler, and exterminate humanity? Better get rid of the fucker, just to be sure.

Get out of sciences way.

I know this is your area of expertise and you know about this project way more than I do. Someone just raised some questions at work regarding the article about the possibility of a black hole sucking the earth, just seems that if there's a possible chance of this happening, its too much of a risk when the outcome is knowledge of how the earth was created.

See this is a great argument. If you are wrong no one will be there to point it out. I'm with Liq 100% on this.
LP, the LHC is not gonna destroy the world. Don't worry about it. I would bet my life on that.
Yeah, I'm done with it...I'm mainly answering Liquid's ?'s.

GOD PARTICLES!

We can learn how to play GOD!

Hey ITDEFX Linkin, what if I told you that cosmic rays more powerful than anything the LHC will produce strike our upper atmosphere everyday, and that black holes on the quantum scale are governed by Hawking Radiation (in theory...maybe the LHC will prove it!) and will "evaporate" almost immediately?
GOD PARTICLES!

We can learn how to play GOD!
The sad thing is, there are people who would make that kind of statement seriously. :whistle2:(
Liqui'd area of expertise? :|
Who?
Wubb, have you thought about my offer?
I don't think we're gonna go for it. But I haven't heard from #83 on it yet.

Um...gesundheit?

ho.ly. crap. so over a year ago i put in a resume with this community group, right? never heard anything back. fast forward to now. i get an email from them saying that they reviewed my resume and that they tried calling me to interview for the position but my phone number was no longer active so they emailed me to see if i was still interested in interviewing for the job. *crosses fingers*
What?

Also, checking this site while sucking your thumb might reassure you: http://hasthelargehadroncolliderdestroyedtheworldyet.com/
I don't know what you just said. There's this thing that people do when they hear something that they don't understand they say "bless you" or "gesundheit" ;)

Dude...I don't care. You are getting too deep on this issue. I had some concerns about the project, I think its stupid...that's it.
sarcasm and condescension is a great way to convince somebody.

(see what I did there)
Heh.

I haven't given you nearly as much shit as I gave ITDEFX. If you want to know more, go here: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4579580&postcount=35 and follow the link in the post.

But if you truly think it's stupid, then you're beyond hope. :whistle2:?

I almost want the LHC to destroy the world. I have many debts I'm not looking forward to paying off and having the Earth sucked into a black hole seems like the best way to avoid paying them.
Wasn't the LHC in an episode of Eureka?

If it wasn't for the Sheriff, the whole world would've been destroyed!
A great show that jumped the shark after its second season. :(

Unless there are some advancements beyond those of knowledge (as in "humans can now fly with no aid!" as opposed to "how does this thing that barely affects us work?"), I really couldn't care less.

If it wasn't for pure science and seemingly "useless" research on the quantum world, there wouldn't be computers/internet/almost every modern convenience you rely on.
