I purchased Wario Ware, Mega Microgame$ for the GBA from Gamestop and I think it might be a bootleg. Don't have much evidence, but although the cartridge looks the same as my other GBA games, and the artwork looks really good, I have to use a bit of force to put it in, and take it out of, the GBA slot on my DS (unlike all my other GBA games which slide in and out easily). Also, when I tilt the game to the side, so I can see the inner cartridge board, I don't see the NINTENDO label, unlike a couple of other GBA games I looked at. Anyone have any ideas?

First of all, what kind of help are you looking for? Are you trying to determine if it's a bootleg or not? Or are you trying to decide what to do if it is a bootleg?

For what it's worth, my legit copy of Wario Ware has that silkscreening on the circuit board. "(c) 2002 Nintendo AGB-E11-01" You can try opening it up and seeing what it looks like inside. If it's got a battery, it's a bootleg.

Thanks for the replies (that link was really interesting). I was trying to figure out whether I had a bootleg -- It turns out I do (other than the circuit board, it's a really good looking bootleg). I guess the low $3.99 I paid wasn't the good I thought it was. Hopefully when I return the game, there will be another copy, so I can switch it for the same price.

I finally found a Ninja Five-O at gamestop, didn't think to check it. Sure enough, got it home, it was a bootleg.

Damn, that's too bad. That game is awesome as hell...

It's harder to, but yes, there are bootleg DS games, and it's a lot more difficult, as you've pretty much only got the label, game stamp, and the code between the contact teeth.

One way to avoid getting a bootleg GBA games is to only buy complete GBA games. Ones with all manual and original box included. I have yet to get a bootleg GBA game.
interesting!
is it possible for people to make bootleg ds games? if yes, are there similar ways to tell it's boot? (just curious)

I'd imagine that bootleg DS games aren't nearly as prevalent... I can't say definitively but I'd guess that the pirates' focus is on the flash cards and not individual games. Who knows?

Nah, a lot of bootleg GBA games definitely come with boxes, though they're really ghetto feeling boxes. I got a bootleg copy of Metal Slug Advance once, and the back of the box read something like "run around shoot things the game is rated T and violence, sex, language information is available at Amazon.com." No joke. It told me to go to Amazon. So yeah...

There are some bootlegs that come with manual and box. Manuals are usually small about 2-3 pages. Boxes might have that lamented gloss feel instead of traditional cardboard. Sealed bootleg games tend to have shoddy shrink wrap.

Most time you can identify bootleg due to their bad quality. Stuff like different art label, errors and misspellings, missing the word "Nintendo" under circuit board, labels are off centered or poor ink quality.

That's great. I've also heard of bootleg booklets being solely a review of the game from a gaming mag.

There's way too many bootleg DS games being brought into eBay now.
20+ copies of Electroplankton or Tetris DS = boot them back to China.

Truth. I really wanted Tetris DS, but I noticed multiple vendors selling 10+ copies (mostly Hong Kong, but a few Canada/US ebayers as well)... that's an immediate red flag.

I carefully picked a vendor that:
1) only had one sealed Tetris DS for sale, with an actual non-stock photo (decent sign, though a clever trickster might do this)
2) didn't have a previous record of selling Tetris DS (not always a good tell, as someone could be funneling from Gamestop)
3) offered the original receipt upon request (! ! !)

So the key is: research your vendor! As for Gamestop-- that's why I don't really deal with their online store.

I carefully inspected it when it came in, and sure enough it was legit (proper wrap/art, all the paperwork, serials). And after cashback, it was only about $10-15 above retail. :bouncy:

Some bootleg GBA game auctions on eBay will say the game is complete with manual and box, but the box is "flattened" for shipping.

Seriously. It's to the point where I won't buy any DS/GBA games off of Ebay because I can pretty much assume it'll be a bootleg.

Thankfully, I have all the DS and GBA games I'm interested in, so that's not too much of a problem.

Who needs eBay when you got CAG ^___^
...cags sell for ebay prices...
Not always, plus the comment pertained more to the trustworthiness of CAG versus the bootleg-a-thon that Ebay has become.
