Thinking bout installing afterburner on GBA

Although it would be easier just to get a gameboy SP, I still like my old school Gameboy Advance. And I would love it if it has a backlight.

I saw on lik-sang that they have the afterburner kit (seems to be just 5 bucks) and it seems really easy to install it. Has anybody have any experience with installing the afterburner kit on the GBA?

Sides, if I mess up installing it, I guess I'll have an excuse to get a SP anyway ...

my friend did it, and the most important thing to do is keep the dust out. So what he did was wear surgical rubber gloves and perform the entire operation inside a giant ziplock bag, so he could see what he was doing, but the opened gba wasnt too exposed to dust and air. Combine that with liberal use of a can of compressed air and you should be okay.

I installed one a long time ago and it was cake. As mentioned above, the real main concern is to keep the dust out of it.

The afterburner case on Lik-Sang is just a replacement cover to allow the afterburner to fit in better and easier. Afterburners are hard to come by and generally go for at least $25-$30.

I did this and let me tell you it is a pain in the ass. It might have been because I had to practice how to solder in the first place. The color looks washed out. I installed a dimmer to adjust the brightness and it still looks washed out.

Also, Lik-Sang does not have an afterburner for $5. Afterburners haven't been made in a long time and go for $60+ on Ebay. In fact I just checked and it is still "Temporarily Out Of Stock".

As a person who has bought a GBA, GBA SP, GBA SP (with the new backlight), and a GB Micro. I can tell you the GBA SP (with the new backlight) has the best screen. It is even better than the NDS. But if you are looking for the wider form factor because of your hands, the NDS is not a bad choice to play GBA games.

I just misread the product description and thought it came together in a bundle. Yeah, it seems the afterburner kit is hard to find.

I'm pretty much better off buying either the SP or the DS in the long run anyway.

Thanks for your responses.

I thought for a while about getting the afterburner too. The reason was I like the disposable battery slot. I worry about years down the road when the rechargeable batteries die on these new gameboys. I would have to buy a replacement battery (until someday when no longer available).
