Lately, i have been flipping games and made some decent credit, i was thinking of getting a game boy micro the money since it's so small and game boy advance had a lot of games. I just haven't played game boy in so long i forgot which games are good. I really only played Pokemon on gba. What are the noeable gba games?

Edit- games similar to Zelda:Four Swords and Advance Wars

I actually have 2 GBA micros and they are great for the commute.

My top 10 MUST PLAY:

1. Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest
2. Advance Wars 2
3. Advance Wars
4. Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2
5. TMNT
6. Pokemon - Leafgreen or Firered
7. Super Mario Bros. 3: Super Mario Advance 4
8. Dr. Mario (Classic NES Series)
9. Donkey Kong Country
10. Golden Sun

Here's my opinion on the Gameboy Micro: If you were to get a Gameboy Micro, you should really consider, if it's worth the price you're going to pay, and if you can find or have games to play on it. If it were me I'd rather get a DS so I can play both Gameboy Advance, and DS Games. If you are going to get a Gameboy Micro to collect then I'd say go for it, but other then that I can't reccomend you to get one.

Side note: How much is a gameboy micro anyway?

You can get them for around $40 on eBay. I got both of mine for $20 a pop at TRU, but that was two years ago.

I also suggest getting a DS if you can afford it, since there are HUNDREDS of great games for the DS as well as the GBA.

The Micro is a great little system, and I would highly recommend it if you have access to GBA games. The GBA format is pretty much dead, so you might have problems finding the games you want. That said, I carry my Micro way more often than my DS, just because the Micro fits so easily in my pocket. It's good for killing a few minutes if you happen to get stuck in line somewhere. Keep in mind that the Micro does not play the original gameboy or gameboy color games.

There were a few Zelda games on GBA. They had ports of the original 2 NES games, and the SNES one. You could look into Minish Cap.

I haven't played them, but the Fire Emblem (I think there were 2) and Final Fantasy Tactics both have GBA releases. I think they're similar to Advance Wars' turn-based-strategy/tactics genre.

Now for a few suggestions I have...
The original Warioware game is excellent. The Bit Generations series is import only, but you don't need any Japanese knowledge to play them. My favorites are Soundvoyager and Digidrive. People also like Dotstream and Orbital.

goozex has all the games nice and cheap, minish cap is 400 points and thats the most expensive game. I was going to buy the micro for 29.99 at gamestop.

I'm also looking into buying a micro at GS. :)

I would recommend:

1. Fire Emblem (both games)
2. FFTactics
3. Tactics Ogre
4. Shining Force
5. Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
6. LotR:Third Age (If you like AW, then you should like this game)
7. LoZ:Minish Cap
8. Metroid (Fusion & Zero Mission)
9. Rebelstar Tactical Command (Jagged Alliance lite)
10. Golden Sun (both games)

My gameboy micro is more often in my pocket than my DS or PSP. The portability of the system simple demands that it goes with me even if I don't expect to have a few minutes to play a game wherever I go. The system has terrible sound so I would suggest getting earbuds to go with it. That or just play without sound. I would also recommend buying an iPod classic/video sleeve or a GBA Micro case to protect the system in your pocket.

Games I would recommend:
Lufia
Shining Soul (1 & 2)
Fire Emblem (1 & 2)
Any SNES port (Mario games, DK Country games, FFs, etc.)
Castlevania (Circle of the Moon, Harmony of Dissonance, Aria of Sorrows)

actually, just saw my local GS in theory has 'em used. would be nice to keep something like that in my bag for days with long doc appts and such. ds is too big, but i could happily work on pokemon collecting...

i was thinking of picking up one too, more so when the B2G1F was going on. I paid $20 for a sealed one I still have, but can't bring myself to open it. I have a DS Lite too, fyi. Do the cartridges stick out of the Micro? Cuz that sucker is real small.

I can't say that the DS doesn't fit in my pocket as it really does, but it depends which DS you're talking about. The PSP is impossible to fit in any pocket, no matter what you say. The PSP is long and basically impossible, however the DS Lite is rectangle and not to big. The original DS I believe is bigger. However the Micro takes the cake.

If you're looking for budget I guess I could suggest the micro, but I really have to insist on getting a DS instead of a Micro.

You can find some used DS' at Gamestop, which I believe are at a pretty good price.

Micro's I believe don't have the game sticking out, but you can watch some youtube videos of it, and find out. The best way to play a micro if you're still below 18, Go to the bathroom, play the Micro there, and get your game time in. xD

However, I never reccomend skipping classes to play the Micro, I did something similar to that, and well almost got busted. *gulp* never doing something like that again.

Aside from Emo-skin pants, there's no plausable reason why you can't smuggle a DS Lite into the pooperoom for some quality crapper time.

Nintendo says Touching Is Good...and even more so on the toilet.

Indeed Kerig, but if you do happen to wear skin tight pants, wear a hooded sweatshirt that day or a coat.

i think somebody from my area saw my post. i went to my local GS and they said they had one until about 20 minutes before i showed up! i'll have to keep an eye out.

Youch! It could just be a coincidence. Did you have them check other stores? You could do it yourself online too:
http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=40979

There look to be plenty, if you're willing to drive a little bit.

maybe they just fed you a line so you wouldn't think they were lame like you would if they had said "no one ever buys stuff from us! we've had the same stuff for two years now!"

maybe. it WAS listed as in stock as of 8 a.m. on their site. there's another i'll check out tomorrow if i'm feeling up for it (had surgery friday, been kind of dragging).

went to a different GS today and they had one. it's a great size to fit into my purse for when i go to doc appts and stuff. this will definitely give me more time to work on pokemon catching/raising.

Glad you like it. The GBMicro was the first portable system I bought (followed by a PSP and then a DS- but recently sold the PSP). I love the size and it's a very high quality designed and built unit. Very sturdy, made of metal (!) and IMO a very smart design with the faceplates. Since the faceplate covers the actual LCD screen and is replaceable, if you scratch up the faceplate then you can just get a replacement and your screen is looking like new again. Since I bought the famicom version I picked up an extra famicom faceplate from the nintendo store just in case. To be honest even though it is pretty small I find it to be more comfortable to hold in some ways than the DS. There are no sharp edges that dig into your hands and despite being the smallest unit I think the GBMicro has the largest D-pad and buttons available on any nintendo portable.

PS I don't think I saw anyone mention Final fantasy Advance. Great remakes of the original games and you can get the whole collection from 1-6 except 3 for the GBA. I played through 1 and 2 on the GBA (both are pretty fast compared to later versions of FF), have 3 lined up to go on the DS, have 4, 5, and 6 for the GBA but might get 4 for the DS too since it's newer in 3D and has voice dialog. I only mention because you said you liked the Zelda games and the FF games are similar in that they are RPGs.

I have decided to get a gameboy micro, now i just dont know where to get one, anyone know any places online that accept paypal, if not ill get the somewhat beat up one at my local gs. the portability really one me over on this one, i already own a psp and ds but theres something about the micro that makes me want it. Ill request minish cap on goozex now so i have something to play.

Picked up a couple of used GB Micros at GS. The first one was in bad shape so I went to another GS and got one there, too. The first one was packaged in a plastic bag that they use for accesories. IMO, not the ideal way to package a system (even if it's small). The screen is scratched up, as is, the back of the micro. WTF is up with that? It seems like if it was stepped on and dragged on the floor.

The second micro was sealed in a hard plastic container and was held in place by small air-filled plastic bags. I couldn't get a good look at the GB micro itself but I felt better by the way it was packaged. When I opened it up, I saw that this one is in really great condition. Only thing is that the faceplate is silver and I would rather have a black one. I thought about switching the faceplates with the other micro (black) but as I mentioned before it is all scratched up.

I will return the first GB Micro I bought and buy myself a brand new black faceplate. I've always wanted one of these. :D

i just traded for a Japanese famicom edition, traded Zelda oracle of seasons/ages and Cod 4. i payed $3.75 for all three games combined so... yeah, now to get some games, i think ill keep it small and simple, maybe just a pokemon and zelda game for starters, whats the best gba pokemon, was thinking fire red because its a remake of the original

I enjoy Pokemon FR a lot. FR/LG were what got me into the series. I now have FR, LG, Emerald, Ruby, Diamond (DS), and Pearl (DS). FR is what's currently in my micro.
and buy myself a brand new black faceplate.
Where can you find new faceplates? My micro was packaged like the 2nd one you bought, with air packets in a big plastic box thing.

They have the silver and black faceplates for $4.99 each. Shipping is $2.00.

I plan on picking up one of these myself. My local Gamestop has one silver one left, but I'm not sure of the condition as it's locked in a glass display case. Think I'll go get it tomorrow.

I got my Famicom edition, its SICK, so sleek and small, the same size as my Verizon chocolate cell phone. Are these sought after/rare. I got it really cheap, 3.75. I found a cheap copy of FF IV Advance, should i get it for 150 goozex points?

Not really. They made a lot of them, and not too many people are overeager to get a Micro. Any collector types would have already gotten one.

I love the GBA (micro is my favorite version of the GBA), it's my second favorite system behind the original Game Boy. However, one thing to take note of is that many of the games consistently listed as must play/own are SNES/NES ports. There are still quite a few exclusives though that make it worth it (Castlevania, a Metroid, a Zelda, ... hm, that's all I got right now).

Is the GBA the first system where there has not been an exclusive Mario platformer? All they released was NES/SNES ports.

I'll refrain from commenting on DKC 2 & 3.

Still think DS is a gimmick. Two screens and touch. No.

This thread made me go home and find my Micro, and resume my Advance Wars 2 game. Man I love this thing!

And yeah, b3bop, I think you're right, the GBA is the 1st Nintendo platform to not have it's own native Mario game. They got so busy with the ports they didn't bother to make one, it seems.

Pretty ironic, considering that Nintendo purposely only had 2 face buttons instead of 4 so as to encourage companies to not just port SNES games and to make original titles, since the hardware was so similar in terms of it's capabilities. Big mistake, IMO, since that happened anyway.

PArtners in time was original

Doesn't count. It's not a Mario game. It's supposedly some Mario RPG knockoff. Not a portable Super Mario Bros. game. Mario RPG was decent, but Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi...

I think we're LONG past the point where anyone can say the DS has turned out to be a gimmick. It has proven itself a very capable little gaming machine, with many, MANY good games out for it.

That said, I still love my Micro. I love the fact that it's just so damn PORTABLE!

If you get a micro see if you can track down the fancy pants famicom red and gold paint job one, looks pretty sweet, I haven't seen them in the US for a while but if you are going to be in Dubai anytime soon you can pick them up new for like 40 bucks at Carrefours.

The Famicom one looks terrible to me. I found one at the local electronic store still sealed in box and passed on it. Why the hell did they even bother selling it here? Even people like me who grew up when "nintendo" was synonymous with "video games" have no memories of the Famicom. I'm surprised it sold at all. If it had been a NES themed one, it probably would have sold out instantly.

My opinion is not based off longevity or sales. I do not dig the two screens and touch thing.

The 4 buttons are a nice upgrade from the GBA. The d-pad is not up to standard, but better than the SP or original GBA.

The games are far too easy to be entertaining. It all started with Paper Mario on the N64. It's been all down hill since than. They practically hold your hand while you play (I'm talking about Nintendo, not 3rd party). Not every game, but the majority.

Nintendo. Game Boy 2. Where is it?

Have you actually played, or looked into the DS at all? Or are you just being a curmudgeon and saying "Bah, me no like 2 screens and touch." In the beginning, I might have agreed with your opinion that these features were gimmicky... Too many games had touch controls shoe-horned in just for the sake of having touch controls. That's not really a problem now, as the dual screens and touch controls are well integrated and compliment the gameplay instead of being an afterthought.

You mentioned in your previous post enjoying the GBA Castlevanias. The DS ones are virtually the same, but benefit from having the map on the 2nd screen. It may seem subtle, but once you get used to it, you can't go back. For games like Ouendan/EBA, the touch screen controls are integral, and make the game.

I own the DS. I own many games for it also.

The Castlevania games are 3rd party. Yes, I like them, but I'm only speaking of Nintendo, 1st party.
