This is why I hate shopping online. What's your reason?

So I bought a 4GB Zune off CircuitCity.com a few days ago with the hook of "Order today, Ships today." As it turns out, that's a crock. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining that I don't have my item yet (it's only been 3 days), I'm complaining that they lure in customers with false promises of fast shipping and don't honor it. I ordered my item on January 31, and UPS still has no possession of the package even though the label was printed the same exact day I placed the order. I always hated shopping online due to the vast amount of time most items take to be processed and shipped, but CC promised same-day shipping and haven't honored it.

Here is a link to my item: http://www.circuitcity.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5059797&CatId=15

What are your reasons for not shopping online, or even in-store?

I thought Circuit City closed?

The whole turnaround and processing thing is a mystery to me, especially on Amazon. I know they have hundreds of trained monkeys running around and picking orders. What does it have to take so long? And many companies overcharge for shipping.

circuit city was bought by tiger direct.... Prior to Newegg I shopped at Tiger a lot and never had a problem.

I can say that Tiger/Compusa is awesome in my experience. I ordered two laptops from compusa last year, and neither of them are what the wife wanted once we got them. We paid no shipping either way, no restock fees, and had our items within a few days..

So your mad that UPS has not updated their site... call customer service at Comp and ask the status..

I fully plan to shop with them on my next purchase of an item they carry.

To get to the heart of your matter, there is a difference between when a company ships something and when it actually ships. Where I work, on our end, something is considered shipped when we pass it through our scales. But that doesn't mean it's actually shipped then or even that day. However, in the company's mind, it shipped at that moment. It won't really ship until the carrier has picked it up for that day. Maybe the carrier got there earlier in the day and missed your order. Or they are behind in processing your confirmation. There are a number of reasonable things to explain your dilemma.

I am expecting a package from UPS that was shipped on January 31 (Monday) and scheduled to arrive on February 1 (Tuesday) but has been delayed because of the weather. It says so on the UPS website. It should be here today. Maybe this isn't Circuit City/TigerDirect's fault?

Well it's been 3 days since they supposedly shipped, and in those 3 business days I'm assuming UPS at least picked up the package, but there's still no record of it at UPS.

When did you place your order Monday? If it was late and missed UPS, it's been less than 2 business days, depending when UPS may have picked it up on Tuesday. Also, sometimes the carriers are slow to update. Either way, that sucks about your issue.

I don't have issues with online shopping. If I am buying something online, I don't really expect it for a couple of days. That's me.

I love shopping online. I mainly stick with Amazon, have an Amazon Prime account and seldom have any problems getting things in a couple of days.

If I need something right away I'll shop locally. But I do little shopping locally other than for groceries and toiletries. And clothing occasionally as I want to try on things first, so I don't buy that online.

Otherwise I get most everything else online. Just much more convenient than making time to go to the store. That's shit that eats up free time that could go into hobbies or social outings.

I love online shopping. More often than not, you get better deals because you have all of the sources right in front of you for instant comparisons. Also, I don't have to get off my lazy ass.

Like I said, it doesn't bother me that I haven't gotten it yet because it's only been a couple days. Also, I put in the order at about 3am. This is just a little bothersome.

EDIT: It's the lack of shipping updated the past 2 days that urks me. Overall, CC was my choice because the price was good on my item, and you really can't beat $1.99 for standard shipping/handling.

My only issues is stores that think it is good idea to send a box set in a padded envelope and think it will not get destroy during shipping. I am looking at you bestbuy.com

So you ordered at 3am and expected the order to be immediately picked, packed and shipped? Not every online site has 24/7 fulfillment warehouses that process orders all day every day.

Plus you have to take into consideration the crap weather the country has been having. Even Amazon has had shipments from their warehouses delayed by UPS and I think the other shippers(FedEx/USPS) due to the relentless barrage of storms that keep rolling across the country.

Shit happens. You just have to learn to be patient and realize that delays are inevitable sometimes.

@ The cheapestgamer - I ordered it at 3am on Jan 31, and it hasn't even been picked up by UPS. I get that the snow has delayed alot of shipments, but the Fed-EX guy drove into my complex earlier, so apparently deliveries are back on schedule.

@ blockhead - I mean squarehard - I didn't generalize. I've had good experiences with ebay, amazon, and various other online stores, and never had a (going on) 4 day delay with package pickup. However, this is the main reason I'd much prefer just getting up and driving to Meijer or Best Buy or Gamestop or whatever because it eliminates the long delays on items.

I ordered my zune because I have alot of travel ahead of me soon, and would have liked to have a decent MP3 player for it. But now it's looking like I'll be stuck listening to the car radio now if my package isn't shipped soon.

 Just because Fed-Ex came into your apartment complex earlier doesn't mean they're not SWAMPED with delayed packages they have to deliver BEFORE yours.

People are so selfish at times.

And what's wrong with terrestrial radio? I won't pay for a music player when I can get music for free over commercial radio. Either bring some CD's with you or learn to be a little more patient as it is likely in transit by now but they're not gonna drop everything just to deliver your package ahead of everyone else's.

Sounds like someone needs to shop online some more. If you haven't experienced delays like this, you don't shop enough.

DumbestGamer, Listen Carefully.... "UPS... Hasn't.... Even.... Gotten.... The.... Package.... From.... Circuit..... City..... Even..... After.... 3 Days..... They..... Supposedly..... Shipped it..... On"

@ Altanis - I only buy stuff online when I can't find it in-stores for whatever price it's listed online - or close enough. Personally, I'd prefer to go to a store anyway. No shipping charges or risk of getting damaged on its way to my house.

Here's the thing OP, just because something "ships" today doesn't necessarily mean anything. Plus, it even says that 95% of orders go out same day if your payment is cleared by 9PM EST.

I could ship something Sunday through USPS by printing my own label but since USPS doesn't pick up any packages Sunday, it'll just sit at the dropbox until Monday.

Chances are, your package was "shipped" Monday night and was to be picked up Tuesday. Tuesday was when the storm started and since you're in Michigan, there's a good chance that UPS was delayed Tuesday and I'm pretty sure they had to shut down nearly all services Wednesday.

You need to relax. Online shopping isn't without it's flaws but if this is the best reason as to why you hate shopping online, then you should continue to shop in stores and enjoy the (generally) higher prices. There's always bound to be some hiccups here and there.

 Again....delays happen ALL THE TIME and sometimes shipping notices don't go out and tracking numbers don't update until something is either halfway to your house and sometimes they don't update at all.

But with the weather recently I'd give them a little slack for not wanting to kill themselves just to get you your all important Zune.

If you're this impatient waiting for an online order, might I suggest going back to buying shit at B&M stores? It'd solve this raaaaaaaaaggggggeee issue pretty quick, but you would be paying for the privilege of getting your shit sooner.

CircuitCity.com ships out of Naperville, IL.

Maybe you missed it, but the weather hasn't exactly been welcoming lately in that area. If you bought January 31, they likely only created the tracking label that day- UPS probably wouldn't have picked up the item until February 1 at least.

As for "UPS hasn't picked up the package yet" whose fault is that exactly? UPS's fault or CircuitCity's fault? Tracking numbers don't update instantly, you know. Most sellers even say "please allow 24-48 hours for tracking information to update."

Note: I hate Systemax and their subsidiaries with a passion. Yet here I am defending them. That says something.

I read a lot of stupid comments from you seeing as how you're all over this site for no reason other than boredom I assume, but this one takes the cake. Maybe people like to choose what type of music they listen to? I don't know about you, but I hate flipping through 6 stations just to find a song I can deal with. Having my iPod in my car is definitely better than radio. And CDs? Really? I would spend more money on CDs just to get all the music that I have on my iPod burned onto CDs and it would be some of the most disorganized shit in the world.

The thing I hate about shopping online is I can get all the way through the checkout process and be charged, and still sometimes get told they don't actually have the product I'm buying. That's never happened to me in a b&m store.

I've had packages ship and be on my doorstep while the tracking page still says "package is not in our posession yet" or something along those lines. I hate it when that happens, but it does happen from time to time.

Usually if I know I'm going on a much longer road trip I'll just bring along my 1-2 mega mix CD's I have that I burned from the CD's I have as they have like 2-3 hours worth of music I like on them.

As for being on here for no other reason than boredom, that's NOT true at all. I'm on here for great game deals and some of the threads do kill the boredom at times.

If ya wanna spend X amount on a music player cuz ya can't sit through standard radio or hit the scan button every so often to look for something good to listen to, then that's your thing and it's fine. It's called an opinion(of which I do have many;)) and you're entitled to it just like I'm entitled to believe that I'm amused enough with free radio and/or my CD's.

i love online shopping. since you're new to online shopping and they happened to delayed it for a good reason, i guess that gave you first impression of it. just give it a few more days.

Well, the package was finally accepted and will be to me on Tue (if UPS is accurate). Too bad my travels are on Sunday and Monday. At least I won't have to deal with this next time I travel.

Well fuck! I decided to buy a case for my soon-to-be-in-my-hands Zune from Amazon at about 10:30 this morning, and by 11:50, they already had a tracking number to me and posted as "Your item has shipped". And it's a fucking Saturday. Amazon rocks! Circuit City doesn't...

since noram is polluting the market with "reconditioned" or "refurbished" games, buying games from 3rd party sellers on ebay and amazon for new games has been rather scary lately. back in december i purchased a few games from a seller on amazon (3rd party) and they all ended up being resealed/refurbished games. theres probably a few places this seller could have gotten them from but noram seems to be the obvious.

in the beginning, it was a blessing to have them other than gamestop as an alternative to trade video games. but now, its beginning to sound more like a curse that wont go away.

But just because they had a tracking number to you before the end of the day yesterday does NOT mean that it actually shipped yesterday. There is a difference.:)

Exactly.

Plus, if you have Prime, your order gets fulfilled pretty quickly. I've ordered crap at like 3am before, and gotten "Your order has been shipped!!!!1!!!one!!1!!" emails at like 5am. Obviously, my order has not actually shipped out, since no carrier is picking up packages from a seller at 4am.

Funny you guys should mention those things. I did get the tracking number and "your order has shipped" email, and even withing 2 hours, USPS had updated the package with it's origin scan. Oh, and I don't have amazon Prime. I don't buy enough to justify that additional expense.

The only thing I don't like about ordering online is the uncertainty. Unless it's brand new electronics/media from a known retailer, it's always a gamble as to the quality. With clothes, you're never sure of the fit because there's no industry standard.

Classic... I ordered the case for my Zune on Saturday morning, and recieved it Monday afternoon. As for my Zune (which was transferred from UPS to USPS for whatever reason), still nothing.

It's called UPS Mail Innovations.

If you've never had anyone ship something to you via UPS MI or FedEx SmartPost, you really gotta order more online.

Reminds me of Ontrac shit.

Ordered some collector's edition games from Amazon and they shipped via onTrac. OnTrac tracking said the shipments hadn't been tendered to them until almost a week later and then delivery followed in another 3-4 days. Total transit time from the day Amazon said they shipped and the shipments at my door is like 10-14 days. I fucking hate OnTrac.

Single, regular games are usually shipped via UPS Innovation/Fedex SmartPost/USPS which is a tag faster. I really missed Amazon Prime.
