went today and picked up a 3ds game that just came out a few weeks back.. Well webpage said LOW STOCK CALL AHEAD... so i placed it for store pick up. i go into the store today and told they could only find the game (no box no manual) but the game is NEW

so i take it hope and pop it into my system and it already had 2 saved files out of 3 on the game cart, so i take it back and they go

All sales r final they dont take returns on open softwere (What the fuck it was opened when i got it)

I love that's a thing now XD, btw go to a manager, if that isn't enough, ask for the number of their DM or look it up.

You're the idiot that bought a cart only game for full, new price. You know that only encourages the behavior. It also means that you kind of had this coming. Also, you were fine with buying a cart only game. I'm assuming the label looked fine. What does it matter if it's been played? When you're buying a cart only game, I can't imagine why that one one detail would be a deal breaker.

(/slidecaged)

I seriously have no idea what you were thinking buying a "new" cartridge only game. It's Gamestop, it's like you were asking to get scammed by them.
Why did you buy a cart only game at a new price in the first place?
I'm thinking the same thing, he should have his CAG card revoked for that move.

The first time they tried that stunt with me (try to sell used game as "new") was the last time I stepped into a Gamestop.
Talk to a manager about it. I would of never allowed them to sell me a "cart only", "new" game though.

If you bitch to a manager enough, I'm sure they'll make a 'one time exception'. It is still your own stupid fault, though, and I still don't see why you even want to return it.

That happend to me when I bought super mario 3d land, but honestly im not that nit picky. Really the only thing that pisses me off when they sell used things as new is either A. Collectors Editions or B. Put stickers on the case that should be new

I would talk to manager. If that doesnt work, get dm phone number.
You should talk to the same person that gave you that game.
Your first clue should have been "new" with no case and manual. Your second was when they asked you to bend over.
True that lmao..

They tried that crap with me on resident evil for the 3ds NEW no box and still was full price really!! I ll never shop there again

cause its a rare title to get in hand

Top Trumps: NBA All Stars for the 3ds.. amazon says they have it but my orders been canceled 4 times ..... went back and they did take 7 bucks off and sold it to me for the used price FINALLY

so got it for 13 instead of 20....

JUST A HEADS UP ..

worker there said THIS IS COMMON if they only get 1 copy of a NEW Game in and its gutted THey are allowed to take it home and play it as long as they wipe the data ... its just the worker whoever took it home forgot to wipe the date off the game.

It seems rare enough that it's barely on ebay. It looks like you can get it from a seller on amazon, though, so they are still an option even if the one sold by amazon isn't working for you. It looks like it's only rare, though, because it seems to be the very definition of awful. lol

its an okay game the only reviewer on amazon has no clue what the game was to be .. they were expecting it to be a NBA LIVE game even though it says its a CARD GAME...

if you google it for the psp the 2 reviews are like 8.5 and 9 out of 10....

I like the game BUT ITS Way to easy to win the games... Just pick a team with very high FT and then pick that cat every time and the higher card wins...

is it worth 13 i say yes
is it worth 20 i still say yes

games last around 5 mins or so and you play an entire nba season so its going to be at least a very long game.... now to see if the game restarts at the end of the season or you can keep your stats.

I remember the first (and last) time I went in to Gamestop buy a "new" game for my brand new Xbox 360. I grabbed the empty case for Oblivion:GOTY for Xbox 360 with a $29.99 New price tag on it and took it to the counter to check out. The clerk scans the case and then turns around to get the game. I expect him to grab a sealed copy from behind the counter, but instead he starts thumbing through a stack of discs in paper sleeves until he finds what he is looking for and pops it into the case. As I'm getting ready to hand over my credit card, I pull it back and say, "I'm sorry, but I wanted to buy a new copy." He replies, "This is a new copy." I explained to him that my definition of "new" means sealed from the factory. He then explained their whole "gutting" policy. I thanked the man for his assistance, and went down the road to Best Buy and got a new/sealed copy for $29.99.

After reading some stories on CAG in the following days about GS employees taking home and playing the "new" discs, I vowed to never buy a game from them expecting it to be new. I still buy used games from when they have sales that are too good to pass up (once a year or so), but as far as I'm concerned, everything they sell in store is used.

I remember a few years ago seeing a PS2 game at Gamestop. It was in a generic case and it said no manual or artwork so they were giving a discount of 10% off. So instead of $29.99 for a sealed copy, you could get it disc only for $26.99. It would have to be 75% off for me to buy a "new" game as disc only or cart only. And to make it worse, a few months after that I tried to trade in a few disc only games and they told me they don't take disc games without the case. So they have no problems selling a new game as disc only but refuse to take them as trade ins. I ended up going upstairs in the mall to the other Gamestop where they did take the games for trade in.
Knowing slidecage he probably spelled the game wrong and couldn't find anything for it and assumed it was rare.
Unless it's a AAA title, we usually get whatever was pre-ordered plus three, four, maybe five copies. One of those has to be put out on the floor, so yeah. As for the taking it home and playing it thing, we are allowed to, but all three stores I work/have worked at, I've yet to see somebody do it. Hell, I haven't even heard anybody bring it up even.

I've been fortunate to never happen to me, but then again id never take a "new" game without a case. I let gutted copies go sometimes depending on how bad I want the game.

but if this ever happened to me in any case, id make a scene to where they would have to call the cops to escort me out or something, cause I wouldnt leave without my money back lol
Didn't you know it wasn't new when they handed you a cart from a box that had been opened? Why would you want to return it if it's a rare title?
I think Amazon had a great TIV value for the game and in that case you need everything. If it was BBY then I have no idea.

Hmmmmm..... VP of GS sentenced for embezzling. Someone winked and whispered that the gutting direction came from this joker.

Something about selling dlc for profit to his "cloud" company and then transferring that $ to his personal account.

I've heard that you can have the employees take off 10-20% off the price of a new game if it's gutted. Anybody successful in that?

GameStop tried to charge me the new price for Call Duty MW3 when it was out the case last year so I grabbed their ad and went to Best Buy and haven't been back since. I asked I co-work that that worked at GameStop and he said they were allowed to open new games and take them home and play them then bring them back and sell as new. If GameStop wanted to they could probably get the manufacturers to give them empty cases of the games like Sam's Club has or buy empty DVD/Blu-ray casesand put covers for the game on it. I work retail and I have noticed most manufactures will work with you for loss prevention issues or put your store coupons inside the product.

If they had trouble selling the gutted copy maybe. They don't have any trouble printing cases for preorder. But many casual gamer and soccer mom simply don't care it is opened.

What he told you is not true. We are not allowed to take home new (gutted) games. That store could actually get into a lot of trouble if they actually are letting employees do that.

This pretty much sums it up, last time I got into an argument at Gamestop it was over P4 Arena. They had around 4 copies and out of all the copies he claimed they were all gutted. When I confronted him about having 4 gutted titles he claimed they put them up on the shelf. I tell him that story is pretty farce since the only thing they more than one copy of is Cal of Duty and wouldn't have such a niche title displayed like that.

Well it turns out the retard was too lazy after I started bitching at the manager and she managed to find a sealed copy right out from the drawer he just picked it from.

Sooo am I the only one who had the opposite happen, my regular GS hookup sold me a NEW game as used.
Was at GS using my buy 3 used get 25% off coupon, had two ps2 games I had transferred arrive, and when I grabbed a CIB PSP game as filler, they couldnt find the disc!!! So I noticed in the drawer he had a LE for Ys oath, I asked about it and he checked if they had converted it to used, alas not the case, but so I could apply my coupon and to make up for not having the other game, he sold it to me as used anyway! A normally $30 LE with everything inside sealed for only $9 :)

Maybe at your store, but my neighbor did it all the time when he worked for GS. They even had a sign-out sheet so that the manager knew who had what games out.

That part isn't true. DS games are absolutly NOT allowed to be checked out when they are new... used ones are fair game. I may or may not work for the company and I know they don't always do what they should... but a job is a job (imo). Not all stores are the same though. The store that I may or may not work at would never pull that garbage...

of all the games I have purchased at Gamestop going back to before the ebGames merger and I have never been sold an open game as "New" the only time that happened to me was back in 2006 at Game Crazy where every gamestop and Best Buy was sold out of 2006 FIFA World Cup for the Xbox 360 and I managed to find a used "new" copy at a Game Crazy since if you recall they had the policy where you could try any game in store before buying it so it had been opened and played at the store. They just put a sticker on the side to seal it and told me as long as I didn't open it I could return it
Another reason you should not shop at GS!!! Not sure why all all like GS...?
they have a purpose I pm them alot & use them as credit mulee.

I delivery to 20+ GS a month & this is true but even crazier the employees who don't qre thought to be ''thieves''. Not sure if this is regional or not.

At this point, I have zero sympathy for anyone who buys opened games being sold as "new" at GameStop. If you spend significant time on this site, you know exactly how they operate. If they try to push that on you, and you don't want it, turn them down.

Gamestop's stupid open new policy drives me crazy. Once I tried to buy a new game so he pulls the game out a cd sleeve and puts in the case. I say I wanted a new game not used and he tells me it is new. I go grab a used box off the shelf and say fine give me a used one. He puts the same disc in the case for like $10 less. Dumb.

I was in GS yesterday hunting cheap copies of America's Test Kitchen and Wii Fit however I noticed A TON of the NEW DS games did not have their cases. They were still charging the full new price for each of these!

This is not selling open box games as new in perfect condition, this is selling games without cover art and manuals as new.

i was in one a few weeks back and saw the same thing.. when i asked they said THEY DO NOT HAVE THE ROOM FOR THE BOXES SO they are selling NEW GAMES CART ONLY and tossing the boxes out ... Told me if i wanted the box go look in the dumpster... i told them to go slidecage themself :)

Sadly this is a much bigger problem then anyone realizes. The biggest retailer of used games is throwing away the cases which makes games on the second hand market that have cases and manuals skyrocket in value. Also makes it impossible to find a used game with a case and manual.

They keep cases for 50 cent copies of Wii Fit but can't keep them for brand new DS games.

That argument also doesn't fly for this GS as they had generic cases out for the new DS games instead of the original cases.

I just bought kh3ddd used at gamestop and sure feels like its a new copy. Manuals were pristine and it even came with unused square enix registration. So im cool. I always ask for sealed copies if im buying new. If they only have gutted copies i just turn around and walk away.

I feel really fortunate to know that my local GS is actually full of people who care. I can walk in say what I need and they can either get me a shiny copy or tell me where I can get it. Also, they give me pre-order swag that people never pick up. ;-)

Maybe you should call corporate and see what they say, gutted games is one thing but to sell something obviously not new in any standard at all is beyond me. I was never a big fan when I knew they started throwing away cases and artwork, I'm just glad I amassed my collection before that. Just sucks that there are a few titles I may miss out on.
