THX 1138 Best Buys Blunder

CAGiversary!
They have the 2 disk version featured in their ad this week. If you attempt to purchase it with another 2 for 20 dvd it'll come up normal price for both dvd's. simply say "hey there 2 for 20 in the ad" they manually overide the price and BAM! you got in a semi sweet deal.
it's in the weekly ads, thx though
Yes, it is in the ad, as the OP mentioned, but it is supposed to be the single disc version in the deal (i.e. they put the wrong picture in the ad. It happens a lot, much to our delight). The 2-disc does not ring up automatically with the deal, so one has to show the cashier the ad with the picture in it. It will not work online (except for the single disc version).
Thanks for the info, I always thought it was a sound dvd to help you setup and maximize your surruound sound.
Yes and no. Lucas came up with the system and named it after his (first?) movie. The system is THX. The movie is THX 1138.
i'd save your money, movie was a snooze fest.
Ha that's funny you say that, I did fall asleep while watching it on HDNet a few months back. I managed to record it to DVD though, I'll probably never watch it.

I don't know, I thought it was pretty good.

I wouldn't listen to them, I'd blind-buy it and see if you like it, cuz you probably sell it back on eBay or half.com for like $14.

Considering the movie came out before Star Wars, it was pretty good.

It was more experimental than blockbuster.

The concept of totalitarian society seeded in capitalism was very interesting.

I managed to catch these guys on their fuckup and snagged the 2-disc for $10 along with Equilibrium. Would have picked up 2001 but they were out :( DAMN.

THX 1138 makes me wish that George Lucas didn't become one of the biggest sellouts in Hollywood. While I do love all the Star Wars movies, I'm still bitter that he added all that digital bullshit to the original films on DVD and won't release the versions he didn't rape with his fist. What an asshole.

Anyways, your trivia for the day, some of you might recognize the sounds from the TV while THX is watching two of those robotic guards beating a man as the intro sounds from Mr. Self Destruct from NIN's Downward Spiral.

You are aware that he altered THX 1138 for the DVD release too, right? In fact here's what IMDB.com has to say...
The 2004 "George Lucas Director's Cut" contains several updated and CGI- expanded sequences:
The mosaic at the beginning of the film has been color treated and looks more like a bank of monitors.
The droid factory at the start of the film has been greatly expanded with CGI and we see much more detail of the creation of droids.
Many shots of the "city" have been greatly expanded with much more detail.
Several corridors in the film have been extended with more people.
The "Mind Lock" sequence has been updated and now has much more shots of the droids being created and new eye effects on Robert Duvall.
There is a never-before-seen shot of the police station.
The train scenes at the end have been expanded with more special effects.
The car chase scene is longer and more intense, with more CGI.
THX is attacked by new CGI shell dwellers at the end on his way out.
*Imagines a future release of Raiders of the Lost Ark where a gun flies out of the sword of the swordsman in the market and fires at Indy, Indy disconnects at the hip to dodge, then pulls his gun and shoots the swordsman down*

*sob*

Nothing will stop this madman.

I hated the CGI additions to the original Star Wars and THX 1138. The guy is a humongous hypocrite. A few years ago he was talking about film preservation and was vehemently opposed to any film alteration, saying it is important for generations to see how the films were back then. But Lucas seems to make his own rules when it comes to his films.

Nearly all of the additions are not even improvements but are either more damaging alterations or pointless additions.
