Tiger Woods 2003 or 2004 for XBOX?

I'm in the market for a golf game for the Xbox, and have been doing some research. I've all but eliminated Links because I've read some things that its gameplay mechanics are too simplistic, and environment graphics are bland. XBL play isn't too important to me either.

So then I'm looking into Tiger Woods 2003 versus 2004, since that series seems to be superior to Links. However, since it isn't XBL-compatable, what are the big differences between the two? And is it worth it to pay the extra $$$ to get 2004 when the improvements are negligible to the previous year's game?

everything is better, more courses, a better create a character, a better career mode (upgradable player, tons of unlockables)

neither have XBL, which is gay, but perhaps next year
 
Yeah, I want 2004, but why won't it drop in price? I've never seen a yearly sports game hold it's value so well this late in it's life cycle. I mean, the next one is 5 months away now. Lose value, you bastard game!
 
if they follow the same formula they did with 2003, the price will only drop on 2004 when 2005 hits stores. And then only to $29.99. Sux.
 
I've only played 2004, but damn is that game addictive. Even my dad (who does not play video games) put in a good 3+ hours with this game over Easter weekend.

If you happen to find a decent deal on this puppy please let us know! Best deal I know of is to AFF25 it on ebgames.com for the used version. (Last I heard AFF25 was still good - they took it down for a part of one day this week.)

It was on sale for $40 at Target a week or two ago.
 
I'm assuming that you do not own a PS2, because you would undoubtedly get that version over the Xbox version because of its online play.
As such, I recommend 2004 for the reasons as stated above, many more courses is the biggest one in my book, the arcade modes are get with a frined and your favorite alcoholic beverage (assuming you are of age). And maybe it might benefit you to wait because the 2005 version may have online, even for xbox. But its easy to say that because I have it and can play it anytime I want. And I can play online too.
 
I'd go with Links, because that has XBL functionality and I think it's cheaper (?) to boot. If you have something against Links, then go with TW 2k4.

Get Links 2004 first. It's great.

Then get TW 2003. It's got a few less courses and no facemaker. It's a bit more 'arcadey' but much more fun. While I was great at TW2003, scoring eagles, and birdies all over, I sucked at 2004. Why, I don't know. The game was frustrating and I ended up selling it.
 
The folks over at Operation Sports seem to like Links way better than TW, maybe I'll have to get Links after all...

Can someone sell me some more on it? How are the graphics and "ambiance"? Does it make you "feel" like you are playing a nice, calming game of golf?

I don't have Links personally, but I was at Compusa recently and some middle-age guy was playing Links. Apparently he wasn't doing so well because he was cursing and shaking his fist with impunity. Nevertheless I backed away very slowly.

Like any golf game, or any game in general, whether its nice and calming depends on how good you're playing. I'm all about XBL now so I'd get it just for that.
 
I'd personally go with Links 2004. TW was a great game but I still found myself coming back to Links in the end. The courses look great on Xbox and the gameplay is silky smooth. Plus, it has custom soundtracks so you can add your own songs that you want to listen to which totally sells the game to me. If nothing else, give them both a rent and see for yourself. If you do get Live, look for Millbuddah and we'll take on a few courses together.
