time to invest in a vita?

momshotdad

CAGiversary!
The sony style store closest to me is going out of business and they have some great deals on a vita. the system itself is 25% off ($225) and all games and accessories are 50% off. i've always been bias toward nintendo for handhelds but the vita does look pretty cool. is it time to invest or should it be something i put on a chirstmas list? are there any great games coming out for it besides resistance? i love my 3ds and dont NEED a vita i suppose, but what do you guys think?

You've got Resistance, Gravity Rush & LBP all coming out within about a month of each other between May 29th & early July. Uncharted, Unit 13, Lumines are some great titles that are already out. However, most people would probably advise you to wait until after E3. I own one, and it's a slick system for sure. If you feel it's a good enough deal(and have the disposable income), go for it.

I think the Vita is great with many fantastic games both out and coming out.

Uncharted
Blazblue
Mortal Kombat
Street Fighter X Tekken
Gravity Daze
Resistance
Littlebigplanet
Sumioni
Dokuro
etc

However, that is not that great of a deal. 225 (Vita) + 10 or more (Memory Card) + 20 (game) = 255 + tax. Alternatively you can buy a Vita for 250 + tax at target and get a 4 gb card + Unit 13 (fun, but not amazing game). I also some some cases there for 5.

if i'm getting a vita, i really want the 3g version. even if i never use it, it would still be nice to have just in case since it's not a contract.

The dual sticks and OLED screen are why I would want a vita.

But...

  • Expensive Proprietary Memory Cards
  • Firmware is not mature enough (No PS One Classics, No Full PSP Backwards Compatibility, Lack of integration/sharing with the PS3's version of PSN.
are keeping me from buying right now and a backlog of games from other systems.

Fair enough those are good reasons but it is a nice system with really nice graphics. I was on the fence at first and bought one but only because I got the Vita 8GB Bundle for $239.99

I love my Vita... but I wouldn't call Blazblue a good game for it, the controls on it just felt wonky and wrong, I loved the console BB too... other than that I've had nothing but good experiences.

I love my Vita, just wish I had more games.

I suck at MLB '12 The Show but it's one of the only game that interests me at the moment. Waiting for LBP and Gravity Daze. Might pick up FIFA Soccer if I can find it cheap (if I have the disposable income).

If you truly want the Vita anytime soon actually 25% off a pretty good deal IMO. Heck the first price drop probably won't put it lower than $200...

Also, If all accessories being 50% off includes Vita memory cards I would snatch up a 32gb one as soon as I saw it even if I didn't own a Vita right now. It will probably be sometime before they hit that low of a price point, if ever. Plus even if you don't get a Vita soon, you could easily trade or sell it for $50 in value probably.

I'm looking at getting a 3G Vita for my brother. His birthday is June 5th so I've got a little time to figure this out.

I don't live near any of the store closings sadly.

Any other deals on the Vita right now? Any deals coming up in early June?

Don't mean to single you out or anything, but you touched on something that's kinda been getting on my nerves a bit lately. Why are so many people whining(again, not really directed at you) about the lack of PSX support on the Vita? Is it really that big of a deal to be able to play a game that's 15 years old on your brand-new shiny Vita? I mean, I know there are loads of great games on the store from the PSOne era, but really? Whenever I boot mine up all I wanna do is play something new... I'm not thinking to myself, "Man, I really wish I could play FFVII right now!!" It always sounds to me like people are just trying to find something to complain about. /rant

LOL you can take mine :)

i really dont play it and personally probally wont be worth it for another 6 months to a year

but if you can get it at 25% off i say buy it cause a 300 buck system wont drop to 200 for at least a year

I feel quite the opposite. I recently bought FFVII and FVIII, and I would love to play them on a Vita. Every time I boot up my PS3, I'm playing a newer game. (Backlog) I also have PS Plus so it would be awesome to play those games on the go. I'm positive they'll add that support down the line. Besides who wouldn't want to play Syphon Filter on a Vita? That game is still awesome to this day. I agree that the properitary memory card thing is crazy, but I feel the Vita needs PSX support.

Backwards compatibility is always a good thing for a new console that just recently launched, it basically gives you a bigger library of games to play with. I do agree with you that it is pointless going forward once the Vita has a good library of games on its own.

People complain for a number of legitimate reasons.

  • It's something the original PSP could always do.
  • The games are good/long, but only cost a small sum.
  • Playstation Plus offers a good number of them.
  • Generally small in size, so even a low memory card can hold a few.
  • It's one of the few reasons you can actually dislike a Vita.

Well, suppose I'm in the minority then. I know I always had FFVII, Spyro 1 & 2 as well as a few other PSOne titles on my PSP... Know how many times I played them? Maybe only a couple of times each. I just don't think it's a legitimate complaint for a brand new device, and don't think it should be a requirement. A nice bonus, for sure, but certainly not needed enough to be missed.

Heh, I was thinking recently that it would be cool if they would add in support for the PS2 downloadable games, but I haven't even thought about trying to play a PSOne game on mine so I didn't even realize it wouldn't do it. :p

I love mine and people don't even mention the two games I've played so far & really enjoyed, Hot Shots Golf & Rayman. Admittedly, if you've played Rayman on a console it's basically the same game, but if not it's gorgeous on the Vita's screen.

I got my Vita a month or so ago from Amazon Warehouse, and I've already played it far more than I have any other handheld. I always tell people that ask me that it just "feels" like a modern device - I love it. :)

Currently playing Uncharted on my Wi-Fi Vita- couldn't be happier. I would advise checking Craigslist as opposed to buying in-store, Amazon Warehouse Deals is another option.

Thought I'd bump this and see if there were any upcoming deals. I'll have the cash banked by the 23rd of May.

Since I'll have some trade fodder, I'm looking to buy from Gamestop or Best Buy - whichever has a trade in promo or Vita deal at the time. Hopefully both!

Also a lot of the games actually look nice on the smaller screen (at least on PSP).
