you can pick up the tivo/dvd player at best buy this week for 199.99 send in the 100 rebate and u get the system for 99.99

bad thing is you need to move to tivo plus for 12.95 per month but once u get your rebate cancell your tivo plus cause the Dvd player has FREE basic tivo service

so 99.99 you can have an 80 hour tivo with LIFETIME free basic tivo servce

went to best buy webpage it says 299.99 on sale for 199.99 then it says 100 buck rebate

i tossed one in my cart to see and it came up 199.99 then u send in the 100 buck rebate so the total is 99.99

im very tempted to buy one again ( i had 3 of them back in may 2004) but didnt care for them and my cable company said they was going to offer a 100 hour in july but never did

just to let everyone know

80 hour TIVO is 23 hours in best mode 36 hours in 2nd best mode 48 hours in 3rd best mode and 78 hours in worst mode

so it might say 80 hours but if you looking at recording in best mode your only getting around 23 hours that is something i didnt care for

its just too bad the rebate wasnt instant would love to pick it up for 100

Ive been wanting to pick up tivo for a while now myself. I know there are several tivo like products out there now. Is tivo the best, or should i just pick up another device? Any imut would help.

Stick with Tivo, unless it comes packaged with your television service (as some digital cables and direct sattelite systems do). It was the first and is the best.

bad thing is Tivo needs a phone line so if u dont got a phone line by your tv expect to be running a cord though your house (another reason i didnt like it)

someone said this dvd/tivo dont need one hooked up all the time though just hook it up and download the new stuff every 3 days dont know if true or not

tivo seems the best since our cable company been saying they will have one since 2003 and still not out , the dish tv one is nice 100 hours with 50 being best taping but you need dish tv for that

stand alone tivo is best

man i want one of these but worry about that rebate lol 99.99 is a great price but it would be close to 300 for me ( i always grab the 4 year warrenty)

I've been a TiVo users for almost three years.

If you get a Series 2 TiVo, which I think the Toshiba DVD player/Tivo unit is, you don't need a phone line for normal use, though you do need one for the initial setup of the unit, and there's no way around it.

Once you get past that, you can either get a USB to Ethernet adapter and wire it into your home LAN, or a USB to Wireless adapter, for the same thing.

That initial setup does need a phone line, so if you have no land line, then you're stuck.

bad thing is you need to move to tivo plus for 12.95 per month but once u get your rebate cancell your tivo plus cause the Dvd player has FREE basic tivo service
...
What exactly is just basic service?

Your cable company will probably offer a DVR soon.

But not every DVD is a TiVo. if you've used a real TiVo, chances are you'll hate their clearly inferior product.

basic what is Free is that you got to put all the recordings in by hand day by day

its very easy to use im very interested its just finding one in stock and hoping that the rebate works

calling tivo now to confim

FYI - Tivos do not record HDTV (unless you spring for the Hughes model for $1000 and also subscribe to DirecTV). Most cable companies are rolling out cable boxes with DVRs built in - the software kind of sucks but it is free (with a $10 monthly service charge).

called them up they said u had to be a + memeber for 3 months what will run around 40 bucks to get the rebate

so after the rebe, u will have a

Tivo with a dvd player with lifetime free basic service for 160

if u can get yourself hooked up for 18 months or 24 months intrest free thats less then 10 a month

thats cheaper then cable boxes
