TIVs for consoles (360) ?

Hello

I currently have an Xbox 360 (Arcade, with a 20GB HDD added to it) and an RROD Xbox360 (Used to be the Pro that had the 20GB HDD in it).

I would probably like to upgrade to Elite because the HDD space feels needed and I like black better.

I was wondering if any shops have trade-in values for consoles (including RROD'd ones, or are they only sellable on eBay?) and if they are reasonable. If you know the approximate values, please let me know.

Obviously, I'm only wondering for Canadian shops, preferably in Quebec.

Thank you

Sorry, I fail to comprehend the purpose of your post.

Was it sarcasm, meaning I posted in the wrong forum?

Or was it just to increase your post count?

Edit: lol, there isn't even a post count here, so it was probably sarcasm.

Trading in a console isn't a wise idea, man. They give you way too little. It's best to sell it on eBay or Kijiji. You're just gonna get fleeced if you trade it to EB. Game Fanatic is trying to help you in his own imitable way.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting EB games to be very generous with their offers, but I didn't want to go through the hassle of checking how much it costs to ship on ebay etc. since the xbox is pretty big for a parcel...

Anyway thx

Yeah it was definitely sarcasm; there's a reason why there's a separate forum for inquiries like this. Heck, there's even a thread in this particular forum titled "Canadian Questions and Answers" that you could've posted your question in. Try using that helpful "Search" function, the community would appreciate it.

Alright, sorry for posting in the wrong forum, I'm not a daily user of this website either.... I'd recommend you try using that helpful "common sense" function in your brain, the website's newcomers would appreciate it.

Well you've been here for four months, so I guess it was too much to assume you had browsed a site a little bit more, my mistake.

You could try selling the RROD'd system on RedFlagDeals or the CAG BST forums, or on Craigslist/kijiji. You could also try calling some console mod shops if there are any in your area, some may offer repair services for reasonable prices. I'd also check to make sure the RROD warranty hasn't expired on the 360, since it was extended to three years, after all. There's also a promotion running at EB right where if you trade in 4 games over $8 in value, they'll give you $100 off the Xbox 360 Forza 3 Super Elite Bundle (phew). If you trade in the 4 games plus your Xbox 360, they'll give you $200 off! I've attached the image so you can check it out, might be worth doing!

I registered a few months ago for some reason and stopped using the forums. Came back a few days ago though.

Thanks for the information. I'll check if I have 4 games they want that I don't mind getting rid of.

Cheers

I believe EB games gives you only $50 TIV for a working Xbox 360. It must include a controller, the power bar/cord and the A/V cable.

The hard drive is considered separate - I don't know how much you'll get for it but it will likely be a really low TIV.

Imitable is a fancy word for "copied". I think a lot of people here would never trade in a console to EB and would tell Tidus to find another way to get it off his hands.

So, let's say I am to try that Forza 3 250GB deal for February... Do I have to trade a working Xbox 360 or can I attempt to give them my RROD'd one? A part of me wants to be like that with GameStop, but at the same time, I don't want their next buyer to purchase that xbox.

Well, if it has to be a working console, I can give them my working Arcade one in exchange and keep my 20GB HDD.

@Tidus755 - They may buy it for like $10 - $20 and refurbish it. They plug the systems in and check them so that people like you don't sell them broken consoles. They're smarter than that.

They will however take your WORKING Xbox360 and give you the extra $100 off. If you want to trade in 4 games also, go to the site and check out what the lowest TIV must be per game. Likely $8 TIV at least.

Okay, I have not done this myself but EB actually tests your Xbox whenever you try to trade it in. Basically they hook it up, turn it on and test for RROD. Then they stick in their own demo disc and test to see if it plays it.

I suggest you do the Forza deal above (or something similar) and keep your HDD, since they'll probably only give you $5-$10 for it. BTW, these trade-in deals with both console and games, the games must have a $8 minimum TIV. Ask your local EB store for details.

Alright guys, thanks. I'll go to the store tomorrow to ask them questions about TIV's.

Now I just have to find out whether I can sell my own Xbox for more than $100 online instead of using their additional bonus.

Tidus755 - Sorry, but about $100 is the most you're gonna get for it, maybe $120 if you include the 20GB HDD. The only problem is that you would have to deal with assholes on Kijiji/Craigslist/eBay. You have to decide whether it is worth it to put up with the shit these people usually cause for an extra $20. Plus, you'd have to make sure you tighten everything up so that they don't return it to you in a week.

IMO, it's just not worth it. I would sell the RRoD online though. I would go through Kijiji or Craigslist. I had one given to me that was already opened, messed up and I could I just not fix it. I sold it for $50 to some guy on kijiji who was bound and determined he could fix it. That was just a white "core" console and the cables. Make sure if you do that, that you ad "Sold AS-IS" on your ad. That way they can't bring it back to you after they mess around with it.

Should also mention in the ad that it's a RRoD unit or else the AS-IS thing can be thrown out if you're selling faulty equipment and not telling people.

for the non rrod one, if u remove yer hdd and trade in 5 games with a tiv of 8 bux or more @ EB. u will get a new arcade. they currently have trade in xbox with 1 8tiv game get $50 extra credit. (u get 50 bux for an arcade). Then trade in 4 8tiv games towards the purchase of a new arcade they get bumped up to $100. cost of a new arcade is 199 so if u do both ull end up with like 208 bux cred to be used towards that. they dont charge tax on cred so ull have 8.01 left over. heres the link.

I DID trade my 360 in EB. I only got $50 for the console and $40 for a 60GB HD, but that was last summer.

Oddly enough, they didn't check my 360 at all. It was working perfectly and it was barely used, but I still find it odd that they just accepted it.

I know when I traded in a 360 (yeah, I'm guilty of stupidity) for a Wii at Microplay, they checked the console in front of my own two eyes. Some places aren't going to accept a trade until they see for sure if the console works. Understandable since the 360 has a history of bricking/RRoD.

@RichrdJ

While I've had no problems with people on Kijiji Ottawa, I can tell from the horrible grammar and spelling that many people selling video games there are under the age of 19. Also, it makes my blood boil when I see people selling banned Xbox 360s in "broad daylight" there. Why would anyone buy a console that a) can't go online and b) has had its warranty voided?

Gotta love how some of them need to type with the CAPS LOCK ON!!!

Don't take it personally Tidus, game_fanatic is a grumpy CAG. He's been saying the same thing to everyone who posts in the wrong forum. Just ignore most if not all of what he says and your experience here will be much more pleasant.

Hmm, a little bitter because I gave you the same advice, champ? Don't worry too much about it, I contribute a lot more to these forums than you do.

Yes, never try to sell something that's broken without making it clear that it is broken. I just thought I didn't have to ad that because it seems like common sense.

The denizens of 1up.com have a problem with people telling them the truth. Then again, why should anyone respect a website that doesn't recognize Mozilla's spell checker or allows people to curse and insult others?

Am I a denizen of 1up.com, or is that other guy? And I use Safari so that spellcheck thing is a moot point for me heh, but to each their own!

We don't really have to continue that conversation about game_fanatic being a little rude at the early posts of the thread. I completely understand that this might be annoying for some people when newbies post in the wrong forums (it must happen more often than I think so). I just didn't really find necessary at first to be rude about it, but then again, some people don't understand unless you start being "clearer" about how you don't like what they're doing.

Anyways, thanks for the input everybody, I'll think about what I'll do later.
