To Buy or Not to Buy?

CAGiversary!
I know there are probably a million threads on this already, but I'm really wondering if I should buy a DS. I've played them before, but no other game than Mario 64DS. So I'm thinking of either buying a larger memory card for my PSP (which I don't really know if I'd use that often for movies and such...) or get a DS w/ Nintendogs for double the price. Any suggestions?

Considering the flood of AMAZING games just pouring out for the DS, I'd say it'd be foolish not to get one eventually. If you've got the cash now, I'd say go for it. Games I can testify as to being amazing are:

Phoenix Wright (finishing it up as we speak)
Metroid Prime Pinball
Meteos
Kirby
Castlevania
Nintendogs (fun non-game)
Electroplankton (not out here yet, but it's coming next year... great little toy)

And then, of course, Mario Kart is coming out this week, which the reviews are saying is the best game of the series and on the system. Sonic Rush is getting high priase too as possibly the best Sonic game, ever.

I'd say get it. You won't be disappointed.

Get DS bundle w/ Nintendogs Best friend for $150 or even cheaper if you can find deal on local store. Option #2 get DS Mario Kart bundle for the same price ;)

I agree. I can vouch for Trauma Center being amazing as well. There was no point in owning the DS at launch, but if you don't have one by now, you need to get it. Phoenix Wright is my new favorite game, actually. But yeah, all those great games, Mario Kart next week, Viewtiful Joe next week, Animal Crossing next month, Burnout later this month, a new Mario and Luigi RPGish game, the new Mario sidescroller, Princess Peach, Metroid Prime Hunters, AND online support.. you cannot go wrong.

Bah, I forgot Trauma Center. Yeah, that game rocks too.

The "bang for your buck" ration on the DS is simply amazing.

that's really what I'm going for, value. I love how the games are 30 bucks....I always go to the store and think "hmm..I could get one PSP game, or about two DS games" =P. thanks for the advice, I think I'll pick one up today :D

If you like games get a DS. If you perfer multimedia stuff (non games) get something for your PSP.

no but I'm planning on grabbin one next week. it would be nice too cuz as much fun as nintendogs is. I can't really play it for more than a few minutes at a time =P what game would you suggest I get?

I'm sure Mario Kart is going to be great, other games I'd recommend are Meteos, Trauma Center, Phoenix Wright and Castlevania.

How does DS stand up as a console, not a portable? I'm broke as hell right now, having just replaced a busted PS2, and blowing another hundo on the DDD 20% off sale, so I'm ambivelant about buying another system. But as you've all said, it seems very very solid, so, do you think it's worth it?

grab feel the magic for $10 at TRU...dumb game but every time i play it it makes me laugh...

definately get

Phoenix wright
Trauma center
Kirby canvas curse
tons of games are coming out by the end of this year...simply amazing on the lineup they currently have and will have

How much do they sell it for? I might check it out if it's cheap.

Unless you can come to the decision to buy a DS yourself, I would say buy a DS, but wait however long for the new redesign....and buy the DS then. You've waited this long, so you might as well wait a bit longer for the new DS. Whenever that may come.

Considering there's been no announcment about it, I'd say we're looking at post-Revolution launch for a redesigned DS. If you figure that'll launch around Summer 06, then you're depriving yourself of so many good games for so long that seems like it's a crime. Besides, think of the backlog of games if you wait till July to get one. ;)

A DS is a good purchase, but will you have time for all the portable games between the PSP and the DS?

I didn't know the PSP had any games? Oh wait, yeah there are two or three I think.

yeah, I have a few PSP games that I play regularly. GTA: LCS, Lumines, Burnout Legends. basically it's PSP at school, DS everywhere else =P

Oh boy, I think you guys have convinced me to pick up a nintendo DS! I think I'll get the Mario Kart bundle that comes out this week(is that right?)

I'm also very interested in
Trauma Center
Ace Attorney

This is probably a dumb question but you can play GBA games on the DS correct?

Also how exactly does the online gaming work? How do I connect?

Yes, the DS could play GBA games, but it can't play game boy or game boy color games. Why? I don't know.

Thanks for the info, and it looks like even though Mario Kart comes out on Tuesday I have to wait til the 28th of Nov. to get the bundle! That sucks!

It cant play the older Gameboy color/gameboy games because the slot on the bottom only fits the GBA cartridges.

Also, just to alert you, the DS has no socket for the Gameboy advance link cables

So keep that i mind if you stil plan on playing two player GBA.
