Tomb Raider Legend - Gen. Discussion - TR: Anniversary Game Now Available via DLC

Rented this today - about an hour and half in - and I really like the acrobatic "Prince of Persia"-esque gameplay. The Gunplay is improved over previous versions - but right when I was just hitting my stride enjoying it - big old motorcycle segment. What's up with that?

The ONLY thing that sucks really, really bad is that you have to beat certain missions to unlock doors in Lara's mansion.
What?

If it's like the PC version, you just have to finish the first stage and the whole mansion is available.

It is just the first mission.

Yep, just the first mission. Then there's a ton of stuff in the mansion to unlock.

This game is badass and a half.

Man...what a glitchy game! When walking white/black lines randomly cut across the screen like little seizures. Happens during the videos as well.

Anyone feel Lara's movements, are, well, laggy?

That sounds like your 360, dude. I have nothing of the sort on my copy.

//edit: Actually, it was happening with one other guy here too:

Doesn't happen at all on my copy though
Correction: The earlier pic looked like a crackwhore... all the other images look a lot better then that one. Good change of pic =)
I never saw the first pic but I do know she still looks like a crackwhore.

I caved and picked this up over the weekend. My justification was that I hadn't spent money on beer in a while so $60 is nothing compared to the $100 I can easily drop at a bar on a Saturday night and then of course about 2 hours later I found myself at the liquor store buying a case of Sam Adams but whatever. I finished the first level and I'm in the middle of some flashback scene or something.

I like it so far but does anyone else think the game is WAY too dark? It's not my TV settings because everything else looks great. I'm also not sure if I am going to go back and do the time trials for achievement points but I might is if they aren't too hard - I do like the levels. I haven't been in the mansion yet but I will definitely be exploring it tonight if I get home from work at a reasonable time. Too bad there's no multiplayer over Live but I can't imagine what they would have you do... - maybe race through a level or something?

Well, that was certainly a short, yet enjoyable game. I was really surprised by just how quickly I went through this game on hard mode.

I guess I'll work on the time trials now and see if I can't find all the hidden icons that I missed the first time through.

In the demo I found it, a tad bit dark also for my LCD TV.... you can also adjust the brightness w/ the in game menu... well atleast on the demo, I could... wish more game would support this, so I wouldn't mess w/ my TV setting fo much...

waiting for my game to arrive.. just a few more days... :D

Please tell me you realize she has a flashlight.. please tell me you realize she has a flashlight..

I'm on the next to the last level. I've thoroughly enjoyed this game so far. I'm not too fond of caves, so the indoor levels were a huge plus for me. I like this one a lot better than any of the other TR's because it's easier to see where to go.. with the PSOne versions of I and II, it was sometimes hard to see where to go and what ledges to grab and whatnot because of the muddy graphics.. this is what TR should've been from the getgo.. love this game.

The bosses are really insanely easy, though.

Haha yeah, I use the flashlight all the time. The part I'm having trouble seeing is during a flashback in an underground ruin where the flashlight is unavailable.

I do really like this game so far though...

You can just go into the Options Menu in the game and adjust the brightness there. The default is set extremely low.

I'm going to try that tonight - I was hanging out with my daughter all weekend so I couldn't really make much progress in the game or sit around and play with the settings.

Beat it. AMAZING GAME. Spoilers.

EXCALIBUR SWORD OWNS. Bottom line.

There's a cheat to play with the sword throughout the entire game. Amazing. Will be replaying with this on.

And you know what? CLIFFHANGER ENDINGS SUCK. But I can't WAIT until the next installment. I absolutely loved the part where she put the gun to chick's head, then started firing off shots left and right.. "WHERE.. *bang* IS... *bang* MY.. *bang* MOTHER! *bang".. dunno if those were the exact words, but the anger was awesome. I was so upset to have it end there though. I will buy the next game without hesitation.

I love this game.. I hate having to return it tomorrow. If any of you guys want to get rid of this game, PM me, I might trade my Far Cry Instincts Predator (which IMO is a great trade, considering Far Cry can be played over Live - I just can't play it on my system, my system is defective or something) or something else for it.
so is this game worth the $59.99 price tag? I am thinking about making it my next 360 game purchase.
It's pretty short (about 8 hours), but it's good and can offer some replay value if you want to do the time trials and find all of the treasures. It's still tough for me to say many games are actually worth $60 though unless they are top tier material. This isn't quite there.

I don't think it's worth 60 bucks, but it takes a HELL of a lot for me to think a game is worth 60 bucks.

Is it worth the 40 from play-asia though? I'd say yes.

Just beat the King Arthur level last night, I think im close to being done soon. Great game, but just too goddamn dark. Even with the light, I had to pump the bright ness almost all the way up.

I always hated the sword combat from PoP, so I think the jumping/puzzles while still being able to shoot jungle cats is a big plus for me.

I beat the game last night and loved it. It was short and sweet. Only took about 7 hours on medium. I really have no desire to back and do the time trails or even beat it on hard. I have to many games to play. But I can offcially say Tomb Raider is back now. Hopefully the next game is a little longer and they give it the full next gen treatment.

i like it. pretty good graphics for a port with some bells and whistles here and there. maybe next version would be taking advantage of everything. story pace was good for me. i wouldn't want it longer but maybe some people equate long stories with price. kinda like more pages of a book=more expensive?

kudos to the team for the achivement awards. i felt it very balanced and attainable, rewarding enough for those who loved the game to give it another go or more.

I am enjoying this game a lot, is it just me but I have goten stuck a few times in this game. I like the puzzels more then just pushing blocks around but it does have plenty of block pushing.

The game to me felt like a combination of Prince of Persia and Dead to Rights. The puzzles were pretty laid out and defenitly the best part of the game. The action parts were blah.

Just beat the game. Took about 8 hours on easy (I left my360 alot while playing...Some Im sure it was only 5 1/2 hours). Pretty damn good game. I would be a definate buy if there were more levels.

just finished the "Adventure" on hard and it really wasn't. But I like it a lot. I don't really feel like playing through it again though. So it will be just a rental for me it seems.

Just picked up this game today and, even though I'm not even through the first level yet, I have to say its looking pretty good. The graphics are really nice, the control is tight, and the gameplay is fun.

I can see myself going through the time trials and trying to unlock all the achievements.

I just played the demo and really enjoyed it.....I may rent it eventually...no hurry yet. I just finished Kameo, so I'm still going through many games.

Finished it on Saturday. 88% in just over 6 hours on the savegame time. Had a lot of fun, and I think its a really good starting point for a new series.

OK, I just tried the time trial for the first level and I wasn't even close - I did it in 20 minutes and I think it has to be done in 12. I don't see myself shaving off 8 minutes to what I thought was a pretty good run through (although far from perfect).

Can you die or does that count against your time? I died crossing the bridge at the end...

There's about a 0% chance of me going through the time trials for the achievements...

I didn't even start the Time Trials. I doubt I'm even going to do them. I just really don't feel the need to go through the game again as fast as I can. I'll just end up missing some achivments. Oh well.

I had a question:

I believe I started the game on hard mode, but after I beat the first level I'm pretty sure (not 100%) that under the difficulty option that lets you change the difficulty, it was on normal. I changed it for the next level , so my question is, does anyone know if there was still any way to see if the first level was beaten on hard. Thanks.

Got the game recently, and it is really sweet. I havn't played a tomb raider game since TR2 on the PS1. I have a question though about the rewards achievements. Are there more rewards in the game then what you have to collect for the achievements? What I'm trying to say is do I have to basically collect every reward in the game, or just enough to meet the achievements needs.

Also, after I beat the game, if I missed some rewards, can I go back and collect them?

I beat the game and it only came up that I beat the adventure, but not the hard adventure. If the first level is the only level I didn't beat on hard, can I just replay that one and still get the achievement for beating the hard adventure?

Back from the dead.

I just picked this game up the other day and so far I like it a whole lot. I haven't enjoyed a Tomb Raider game this much since the first 2 for PS1.

I also really like how the achievements are setup. Simply because it gives me more oppurtunities to explore, rather than just rush through the entire level/game.

Picked this game up yesterday on impulse -- $30 was a nice price point given the fact that I enjoyed the demo and most of Crystal Dynamics stuff anyway -- and have been totally addicted to it.

I also picked up Condemned and COD2 yesterday, but they sit by idly -- barely touched, really -- while I play through Tomb Raider.

Unless this game falls completely on its face in the last two levels (which the trend does not seem to be pointing towards) this will easiliy be one of my favorite games this year.

I agree completely. In a game that lives or dies by creative level design it's nice to have some sort of reward for playing around and trying to get to the far corners of each area. This game has the sort of "wow" factor -- where I stop to just look around -- that made games like the first Prince of Persia and the Metroid Prime games shine.

I totally agree and the last two posts could have been written by me since I got it for 30 the other day not expecting much. I was totally blown away by just how fun this game is. Its hands down one of the best action games I have played on the system. I like how they mix it up with the driving parts and such. My only big complaint would be the large amount of clipping and that type of stuff that is in the game. I loved when she set down in that yellow Jeep and her gun just kind of melted into the seat. lol

Hope you people who got it for $30 saved your receipts... next week the game is $24.99 at Best Buy on sale, $19.99 after GGC.

I know I'll be getting a copy fo sho. Loved the game on the PC, been dying to try it again.

Definetly. A $20 360 game that doesn't suck is a no brainer.

Beat the last levels time trial first. That unlocks the one hit kill cheat. Using that cheat makes the game much easier and faster to beat.

Just finished the last level -- what an all-around pleasant game this was. In a lot of ways it was as fun as Sands of Time but with a more entertaining combat system and an extra layer of clever writing.

I especially liked listening to the recordings in the England level and the banter back and forth about the legend between the characters. I knew I wasn't getting any information that was critical to my exploration of the level but sat there listening to it all nonetheless. It was one of those little touches that separates a great game from just a good one.

This was well worth the $30 I paid for it... worth about three times as much as whatever the going rate is now for stinkers like Perfect Dark Zero, if not monetarily then in terms of sheer enjoyment.

The DLC version of Tomb Raider Anniversary is up on the marketplace. Its broken down into two parts.
