Too many reviews bashing wii music because it's not as competitive as Guitar Hero

CAGiversary!
I've seen too many reviews bashing Wii Music, because it isn't as competitive as some other music based video games as Guitar Hero or Rock Band.

RarityGuide.com has published a review treating Wii Music as what it truly is. There is no "Better player" in this game. There is no "Right way" to play a song. and you won't find YouTube videos of players beating records, playing the hardest songs on expert. This game is just about music, creativity and fun. And once we are able to comprehend that and rise above the competitiveness of so many modern games, we can finally appreciate Wii Music for what it is.

Here is an excerpt from the review:

In an era of competitive music games, there’s one game that dares to focus on the music element itself. Nintendo breaks from the trend of Guitar Hero and Rock Band and launches off exploring the vast areas of music itself. With the option of using the Wii Balance Board to aid in playing the drums and the Remote and Nunchuck being used for the rest of the numerous instruments, this game offers something that no other music game can: Creativity. It’s very important to understand I am not looking at this game in comparison to Guitar Hero and Rock Band. I would also reiterate that the game itself is fundamentally different from both of those series. When I got this game, I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. I knew that it was more focused on creativity, but it took playing it to really understand just how much is in the player’s hands in terms of just what you can create. It really is a great game for people learning about music or for people who want to understand more about the fundamentals of music. You play as your Mii throughout, so you get to see yourself (sometimes in multiples) playing through the song...

You can read the full review here:
One and two and three go! Wii Music FTW!

If I want something creative, I'll get the DS-10 Synthesizer or something. Because that actually has a use.

And seriously... Wii Music has Twinkle Twinkle Little Star or some shit as one of the song choices. Pathetic.

Non-competitive, sure, and of course it's not meant to compete with GH/RB. but the fact is that you still don't really do anything in Wii Music.

The fact that the MIDI sounds utterly balls doesn't help much either.

MIDI can sound worse? Wow. That's a bit of a new low.

That was exactly my point; You really don't have to do anything in that game. There are no real goals or scoring; you just play to have some fun and pass the time with some friends; The fact that you don't have to achieve anything in that game is what makes it so special.

Who knew being special could be so boring! With no goals to achieve and the software being too weak to seriously make music with it, its good for a distraction at someone else's house. Not for you to own.

It's made for toddlers and young children.
For me, this game is pointless since you don't do anything.

"It really is a great game for people learning about music or for people who want to understand more about the fundamentals of music."

That's hyperbole---unless you refocus your statement towards children. If you say this in regards to terminology, then a Google or Wikipedia search would be just as sufficient. Playing with pots, pans, and wooden spoons would teach a child more about rhythm and tempo than Wii Music.

so im simple terms chase your saying wii music sucks the big one ^_^

Wow, if this qualifies as a review, allow me to write a comparable one:

"If you love reading, then you will love *Insert Game Here*, because its instruction booklet is an epic read."

From what I understand, it seems that many reviewers were looking for a reason to purchase Wii Music over Rock Band or Guitar Hero, and when no such reason came, a bad review was written. Saying that their reviews are somehow incorrect because they cannot "finally appreciate Wii Music for what it is", is nothing more than the cry of a starving artist.

"Oh, you clearly don't understand my work because you don't like it, I have no interest in what you have to say."

Please. If I want to relax and enjoy a musical game, I can play GH/RB on the easiest setting and sit down on the couch playing the guitar. Just because a game has fewer options under the guise of "non-competitive" does not mean it gets a pass from judgement when it comes to which musical game I should be spending my hard-earned money on.

I will not buy a half-assed musical game for "music, creativity and fun" when my other options provide the same in a better package for the price they're asking.

I know several adults who play it.

Still, game is fun for those who like a game where you don't have to do anything. Probably not for the Hard Core gamers (I think the population of CAG falls mostly under the category?)

Anyway its a review and the reviewer sees this as a good game (and me too) and obivously not everybody is going to like it and I respect the opinions, buy my point was that you have to see it for what it really is before judging it.

(ok so is there ANY person on CAG who likes this game other than me? :) )

I actually like games with little to no objective. I like every type of game, every genre, every graphics style...

Wii Music is simply awful. The worst game ever published by Nintendo. No effort, no ambition, just a total waste of a DVD.

Nintendo had a much better idea with Electroplankton, which is far superior in every aspect. A WiiWare version of it that is given free to everyone with Wii Music registered would be a nice "we're sorry" from Nintendo.

I agree completely but will take it a step farther. Nintendo was preying on parents and non-gamers by releasing this "game". They know that non-gamers and parents will buy whatever has Nintendo branded on it and has a bit of hype.

I have a buddy that only owns a Wii and bought it for him and his wife to play Wii bowling (serious). Once he started playing Wii Music he was like "WTF...this isn't even fun" and thus its sat on his shelf since (as he does not know the glories of goozex/ebay/cag and buys his games at Best Buy). His wife, who loves quirky quick games, said the same thing.

This "game" is an abomination and deserves every 4/10 it gets. The generous 4 points are given becuase of the name Nintendo on the package.

My three year old daughter has this toy saxophone that plays kid's songs. Each button press plays the notes, sequentially, of a recognizable tune ( like Twinkle twinkle) so there's no control over the tune, just the timing of the notes being played. It also morphs into a trumpet and a clarinet by twisting the mouthpiece forwards or backwards and the sound changes according to it's shape. I think it was 14.99 at Target and it sounds a lot like what Wii Music is.

The only redeeming aspect of Wii Music seems to be the virtual drum kit. I might buy this game just to play real air drums.

But what is wii music?

Seems to me Wii music is listening to out of copyright songs while waving the wii mote around. Not only does it sound terrible, but it is not fun.

On the other hand, a game like electroplankton did what i believe Wii Music is trying to do, which is make a simple interface that lets you create interesting sounding music that is fun to play and fun to listen to.

Games don't have to be competitive to be fun, they have to be fun to be fun.

Give me electroplankton for wii instead

I was watching Jon on "Jon and Kate Plus 8" play Wii Music with his kids, and it looked like they were having fun. If my daughter was a little older I'd probably get it to play with her. That said, I'll stick to Guitar Hero, SingStar, and Rock Band for my own musical gaming.

Well personally I think Wii music is a joke. Do you do nothing yes, and that could be a good thing sometimes. What pisses me off is that you do nothing and it means nothing, it's like ok I remixed this song, great. Does it matter, no because one you just waggled something. Is it fun, for 5 seconds maybe.

If you really want to make music they are music making programs for the PC and quite frankly they are not that hard to use, and all you need is a mouse.
