and so far I have no clue what the problem is. I got a Vista Ultimate version in today to finally upgrade my second hard drive. I installed the 64 bit version without a hitch. I installed all the updates, got my video drivers, sounds, etc etc, and used it for the day.

Never did I see a slow down and it's amazingly fast. Everything opens and runs pretty much instantly. This is without changing any settings and such as well. So what should I expect later down the road?

My computer rates a 5.2, due to my processor since it's at the stock speeds of 2.33.

Initially there usually is no problem with Vista, but as you install more applications and games you may run into some hiccups and annoyance. For me, Kane & Lynch Dead Men crashes all the time, so I can't play that game. HL2.exe crashes when I exit any HL2 game. And my frame rate in games are significantly slower than my previous XP installation on the same PC. Nothing that render Vista an utter POS, but there still are lots of kinks that need to be iron out.

There's some incompatibility with old school programs, which has been my main issue.

Most of the problems, from what I hear, aren't on the user end. They're more on the networking side of things. Networking on Vista is a giant pain in the ass.

Looks like you figured it out. Most of the negative stuff about Vista is pure crap from people that never used it or have no clue what they are doing.

Vista can be fine-tuned to avoid all of the big problems, but there are still some incompatibilities and the 64bit version tends to have more than the 32. Still, best of luck to you, fellow vista-er.

I have been using Vista Ultimate almost from the day it came out. I haven't had any horrible problems before, here are some of the worst ones:

iTunes gives me a shitload of problems
Some programs still don't have Vista compatibilty
If you have any old hardware, they often won't work in vista
Some older games don't work right

That is pretty much all the issues I have had that were a real problem.

I tried home premium on a laptop and costco and I love it. It had 2 GB of ram, so I think you just need extra ram then recccomended.

I haven't had any incompatibility issues software wise and since this is a laptop (preloaded with 32bit Vista Ultimate), hardware isn't much of an issue.

My biggest problems are those prompts and SearchFilterHost.exe.

SearchFilterHost (any where from 1-5 iterations) randomly comes up every now and then and each one uses up to 40% of my processing power. My computer is running fine... and then all of a sudden, it slows down to almost a halt and my processor temp jumps from 50C to 60C and guess what, SearchFilterHost is at it.

The prompts are just stupid (and again, seemingly random). I try to delete a file, the confirmation box pops up, I click yes, and then the prompt comes up and asks me again? That's just retarded.

And it takes FOREVER to copy things to external decides (external HD, flash memory cards, or a thumb drive)... I just don't understand that. My transfer rates are like under 1mb whenever I copy files to an external device. But when I copy things from an external device to the laptop's HD, it's pretty fast.

Vista is definitely nowhere near as bad as the internet might lead you believe but I see zero benefits of Vista over XP other than the slick look.

I find it easier to network with Vista then XP. The only problem I really saw is every so often some program wont be compatible. Very rarely though for me, and in each case it wasnt anything I needed anyways.

I dont play PC games so really cant comment on that. I guess there are problems there.

I had the Vista Beta way back when and I will admit I hated it. Nothing worked and it was more of a hassle then anything. Since it was released though there have been no problems on my end. Most of the people who are bashing it are people who dont use it. They hear everyone else say it is bad, or maybe they just dont want to upgrade their 5 year old computer so Vista will run on it and so they jump on the bandwagon.

I have a 2+ year old Dell and Ultimate works perfectly on it. I even have the Aero theme on and its not slow, I dont have any problems at all.

Hmmm most .. if not all of these problems will not effect me then. Mainly did the upgrade for DX10 and put a use to the RAM XP couldn't see (32 bit XP). Maybe the games will give me problems but we'll see I guess.

Going to use it now :D Wish my virus protection would get here faster :D
