Tournament preperation

Hi guys,
I'm new CAGster.
My first post will be about "Tournaments." I have a tournament coming up here in Hawaii. The games are obvious Halo 3, COD4, and Smash Brothers (Gamecube Ver.) I'm sure some of you or maybe even majority of you guys have entered in some video game tournament. My question is "what do you guys do to prepare for a tournament?"
The games that I will be playing in the tournament is Halo 3 and COD4. Here are the rules:

Halo 3 preparation for me is maybe put in couple hours a day team hardcore and just be clear when describing enemy locations, who is grabbing what weapon, and what to do if "scenarios"

3days before the tourney I would call my team memebers and prcatice on split screen or 4 tvs side by side, for 4-8 hours

Since this my first COD4 tournament, I think running around and just playing how I play in xbox live is good enough:)

So, I would like to hear thoughts, tips, what to do what not to do, and just feedback. I have 1 week to prepare:)

NOTE: I know the tourney rules suck!!!

Don't sleep the night before and do a bunch of blow right before you play. It works. Believe me...

OP, feel free to send me a FR and some game invites, I'd like to take you on a few matches, I'm entering another local COD4 tournament myself in a month and I'd like to challenge someone who is entering a tourney himself.

The first Halo 3 tourney that I had, I went to the club the night before and got hammered. I did surprisingly good, but I still did good...

If you have the option, I would play as much you can both online and offline with the same maps/rules with your team and some friends if it's possible. I would definately play offline only if possible the night before, because you don't want to have online timing down and not be used to playing on a LAN before the tourney.

Get at least 5-6 hours sleep before and make sure you have snacks for between rounds.

[Says a former Kentucky Blockbuster SNES Champion in 1994 and 3-time participant of the VS. System Pro Circuit where day 1 is 10 30-minute rounds with no breaks.]

Good tip! But yes, play a LOT of the game, familiarizing yourself with the maps 110%, I'd say, would be the highest priority.

And personally,...I prefer not to have too many people there supporting me. Because for some reason everytime someone's like "YEAH SIMON, YOU'RE KICKING THEIR ASS!" ...they jinx the shit out of my mojo, and I become exponentially worse at the game.

Either that, or I can't stand the pressure of losing in front of my friends/family!:hot:

Just take it easy, observe the other players, don't think about the $1,000, and....GOOD LUCK!

I know back when I was in the first to play Call of Duty 3 Call of Duty 2 tournament, I just played online free for all relentlessly for 3-4 hours every day until my match. The first and second place person out of 4 went on to the next round, so I just made friends with the guy I won the first round with and we played a whole bunch.

I actually forgot about my second round and got the invite while I was playing Crackdown, so since I hadn't even been thinking about it I was totally relaxed and actually destroyed everyone else playing.

I ended up winning the finals and got a free trip to LA to play Call of Duty 3 before everyone else did. Of course, the game turned out to be kinda crappy, but it was fun nonetheless.

So in summary, just practice with your team in the game situation as much as possible, and relax.

Bog? That sucks dude. fuck Bog.

But yeah, practice practice practice.

For Halo 3 familiarize yourself with the melee system and always be one step ahead especially on Narrows.

As for Call of Duty 4, know every nook and cranny of the map. Play a good amount online so you can see people's favorite hiding spots.

Good luck OP.

Thanks you guys,
I practiced on live yesterday on both Cod4 and Halo 3. We won majority of our matches. Luckily for me, I can observe our teams weakness in Halo 3 thanks to save films. As far as Cod4 goes, I think we just have to come up with nicknames for each for different parts of the map.

I'll take pictures and hopefully video and I'll post it up via Youtube:) If you guys want to play just send me a friend request. Might have a hard time setting up a custom match though since I'm in Hawaii time.

Good luck OP. I've never been in a tournament, but I would assume that it would be tough to take a bathroom break, so maybe devise some sort of urine plan.

That's the first thing I would think of if I had to play a game for hours on end without breaking.

EDIT: Just sent you a friend request. We're on a lot, so it might be fun to play with us. I'm curious to see how I stack up against a tournament player.

Ok. Once I get home I'll accept that request. As far as you stacking up against a tournament player, don't expect much. My team and I FEEL that we are the best in Hawaii, but being the best in the world, I don't know. I'm pretty sure we could keep up though with those MLG guys.

But yah, I'll accept your friend request and hopefully we can set up a friendly match.

The tournament is tomorrow guys, thanks for all the tips. I feel really confident. I'll take pictures and maybe some video to show you guys how it went.

Here's the list of teams that will be in the tournament. My Halo 3 team is Kalihi FC and my COD4 team is BOOOYAAAKAAASHAAA
