I went to the local Tower and got a $300 X-Box 360 Premium! Of course since they are no exchanges/returns the controller didn't work. Just my luck. I picked up a $30 wired controller later, so I guess I still came out ahead.
What? I can't belive that there are some still floating around. Meh, I'd check other places around me other than Buena park, but this damn cold doesn't really allow me to go out.

And yeah, call MS about the controller.

Went to the Tower in Laguna Hills.

Crappy games except for Mario Party, which is 25% off 49.99. Pass.

CDs and DVDs were only 15% off. What a waste of time.

Tower Sunset (CA) is pretty picked over for gaming stuff. Lots of CDs and the like, but their very small game collection is all still marked MSRP and nothing too rare is around. It looked like they probably had PSPs in stock (they have a bunch of tags to take to the cashier by the MP3 players and they still had PSP tags), not sure about 360s. I found a few import singles but nothing too exciting yet. Staff seemed incredibly depressed. (understandable but they've been the most depressed staff I've found so far)

i think in the next few days im going to try out thet tower records in i think the city is montebello or east la its off atlantic blvd, and the one thats off south street by the 605 so i dont know the city either cerritos or lakewood? but yah from the looks of it im not going out of my way so when im in the area ill sneak a peak. dont wanna waste gas for a possible let down trip. mainly interested in seeing what xbox, xbox360, or cube games are left. but also diein to complete my simspons collection need season 4 and 5 and im up to date. so hopefully i can get a semi deal on that. *crosses fingers*

i wonder how much they are going to sell there floor displays for? like the tv's speakers, lights and cd racks and so on and even the movie poster frames :p

A local TR near me has some good stuff left over.. a couple copies of Suikoden V, Tales of Legendia, and Shadow Hearts FTNW.. some other stuff I was looking for like Darkwatch, and a few other games that slip my mind. Unfortunately, the 25% doesn't quite put them in my "must-get" range, so I'll wait and see if they're still there when discounts drop further.

Same with the Star Wars: Clone Wars Vol. 1 DVD I saw. Not quite enough of a deal for me to grab it just yet.. though I did hide that one.

My Tower in Richmond, Va had some 360 cores for 224, I did the math on getting the system and a used hard driver and component cables from GS and I was still way ahead. Didn't really care about the Live stuff in the premium since I was going to buy a 12 month live kit.

I did make the mistake of buying Chromehounds, because I'm not going to be able to get on Live for while. You can see my issue at the trade forum here:

Man that no exchange thing is a bummer.

it had been stated in this thread, but it's crazy how many people were at my local Tower records for 15% off CDs. people just had arm fulls of stuff.

I am probably going to wait a little longer for a higher percentage, then pick up a couple CDs.

No kidding. There was a woman in front of me at Sunset today, who bought about $300 worth of CDs. No box sets, nothing unusual. I couldn't believe it, as there is NO WAY she couldn't have found the same CDs for about half price at Best Buy.

That said, selection is still pretty good at the 3 stores I've been to. I wonder how long corporate will keep it at 15%.

Very strange, since I could of sworn I have been hearing about how everything is at least 30% off at Tower Records around here......maybe I was just hearing things and that it was really 25%.

The ads on the radio are tricky-- they say stuff like "everything, in every department, is up to 30% off!!!"

I've struck out looking for 360 accessories to go with my Core (I really need a cheap HD!). I wonder if Tower's selection was always thin, or if someone pretty much cleared out the stores near me the second they figured out the discounts...

No 360s there then, or did you not check?

Any guesses as to when the next drop might be, and how low they'll go?

Lots of stuff I'm interested in, but the prices would need to drop at LEAST another 20% for it to be worthwhile. Especially on CDs and DVDs.

I am hoping to check a Tower out today that I was at last week to see if there's been another drop. I kinda doubt they'll do weekly drops yet. It'll probably be 10% additional every 2-3 weeks, then around Thanksgiving (for the stores that remain) they WILL drop 10% a week til the store's wiped out.

I did overhear an employee say there were going to be like 'depot stores' that would stay open til the very end, while other stores would close up early and ship their remaining stock to the depots... so keep an eye out at your local stores to see what's going on; you may get there someday and the store's already gone.

I don't know if this has been said already, but i think it's just one big mega sale haha...

they are still making crazy profit from 15% off cds, and they're selling alot!

Genius marketing or they are truly going out of business, you decide!

they are going out of business, all their items are being liquidated. i have a friend that works there, he "hooked up" himself with a free core 360 and 6 games, lucky bastard lol.

MAN THAT SUCKS LOL...

what a lucky chump...maybe that's why they're going out of business though...I had a friend who worked at tower too and he'd always hook me up with cds like a week before release lol

yeah i was told to give him a list of games/dvds i want, but it never happened lol

i guess all they newer stuff is gone or hard to find. this was at a bay area Tower store.

maybe former A's manager Macha can get a job there now lol

Yeah, that's basically called stealing and can be done by an employee regardless of whether the compnay is going out of business or not.

No kidding, the liquidation company that bought Tower is making a FORTUNE this week. People are frantically buying stuff for $5 over Best Buy's price. ;) They've gotta try to make their money back (being as the whole reason they bought is they thought they could make a profit selling everything!) so it'll stay 15% until people stop buying.

There was a great story I read yesterday, FYE was trying to buy Tower (and was going to keep some stores open) and was outbid by the liquidators by $500,000. Their lawyer argued that putting people out of jobs, etc, wasn't worth the little extra money but the judge sold to the liquidators.

The only CDs I've picked up have been imports, which aren't too bad a deal at 15% off, since it's hard to find import CDs online once they've been out a while. I am hoping to find a few more 360 accessories tonight but based on my weekend scouring I think I am lucky to have even gotten a 360, even if it is a core unit!

Hahahahhhahahahahahahahahahhaha

HAHAHAHAHIJGTIJSOIPEJHSHJPSJ

...Yeah poor ken Macha lmao....He can't even manage a tower now....perhaps he should try taco bell...

just hit up my local tower. they had a couple of 360 cores for $225. unfortuneatly for me i can't game until around black friday (i college auditions that week and i'm too old not to get in)

it was so tempting.

they did have 20% off of jazz, 25% off of games, 30% off of horror dvds, 15% off of pop/rock and regular dvds and box sets.

i got a jazz cd (al di meola) that was already low at $10 before discount but that was it for that day. I'm dissapointed and will probably risk it in a couple weeks to get some of the stuff i really want.

I've only lucked out with comedy CDs and a mispriced VP: Lenneth ($7.50 after discount.

One thing I noticed that how many pop culture consuming shut-ins and homebodies have come out for this sale. It reminds me about Seinfeld's comment about the undateable people at the DMV.

Stopped by Buena Park TR, nothing good, everything still %25 off for video games. They got 20% off of graphic novels too, but thats still too much.

Ill have too goo up to the burlington,ma store for a quick check around maybe around the begin/middle of Nov. This sucks that Towers going out of business. I did buy a Van Damme movie from them once, but that was online. I did enjoy visiting their store on the corner of Mass ave and newbury st in boston, But then They disappeared and Virgin Megastore took over. Now Virgins going bust and their outa here soon as well Damn.....Although that Newbury comics around the corner is still there I think. Goota goo see what I can grab up for Cheap!!

Wow, Tower in Sherman Oaks, CA is REALLY picked over for videogame stuff. They'll probably sell their entire stock by the end of the week, given how much stuff disappeared since last Thursday when I got my 360.

I'm bummed; I had hoped to at least get the 360 component cables and maybe an extra controller or something. Figured those would be around a while. Guess not..! (I did get a Media Remote for the 360 for $22, they had 1-2 left). Wish I would've known how much I'd want those when I got my core last week and quite a bit of stuff was left!

ok...seems I was right about an update today.

-seems all CD's are now 20% off instead of just rap and soundtracks
-magazines are now 40%
-Books and Graphic Novels are still 20% off
-DVD's are now 20% off (up 5% from last week...big whoop)
-Games are still 25% off (meh)
-Fairfax, VA sold its last 360 Premiums and PSPs the other day... seems people think 100 dollars off a premium or 62.5 dollars off a PSP is a good deal :| fuck maybe I should have gotten a PSP.
-They still have 3 360 Cores left for 25% off 300 bucks...meh

Any new price updates? There are some toys that look appealing (KOS-MOS, Slash, Advent Childret Shin Bahamut, Ryu) and 3 Digital Devil Saga 2's that I'm waiting for to drop....

As of my last check yesterday (Thursday, 10/19) ALL CDs, DVDs, books, toys, posters and accessories are 20% off. Magazines are now 40% off (outdated magazines are 50% off). I was told that another drop may come by the end of the weekend.

I'm only repeating what an employee told me, simple as that. And from my experience in checking four Tower stores, they've had different discounts even on the same day. They all line up within the week though.

am I the only one on Cag going to Tower records on Wed/Thurs?

Anyways todays update....

cds are marked 25-30% now

magazines are still 40%

dvds are now 25%

video games are still 25% off :whistle2:( no change..might be a while before that changes.

the last 3 360 cores from the fairfax store are GONE. so it might be the same at everywhere else.

toys are still 20% off

book are now 25% off

I overheard a timetable of 7 weeks til they shut down completely.
You're not the only one. I've been stopping by my three closest ones every Wednesday.
and so why aren't you helping to report your location finds? I don't get out of work til 3pm, so I can be at mine by 3:15-3:30.
am I the only one on Cag going to Tower records on Wed/Thurs?

I've been stopping by the one in Foggy Bottom, DC. I'll stop by between classes every once in a while, but law school keeps me too busy to really check out any other stores. Do any of the VA stores you've been checking have PSPs? It's the only current/next-gen system I don't own or have a pre-order on, so I'd be willing to pick one up for the right price.

the fairfax store is sold out of PSP, 360 (premium and core), with most of all there system accessories gone as well... I guess 10%-25% off accessories is a good deal for people. There are Psp accessories left but they are mostly crap.
