Ok,

I am somewhat new to the router connections. I know mine is up and working and I have a very uniqu setup and use a USB wireless router for my PS3 off my laptop (lets leave that to another discussion).

My bro just got his PS3 and bought this router:

It will arrive in just a few days.

I found this link for him to get him started:

http://boardsus.playstation.com/t5/...Vegas/Router-set-up-for-dummies/td-p/29962473

My question is at the end of that link they mention Port forwarding etc. Is that fairly standard or maybe unique to their setup? Mine I did not have to do that. I can use voice etc all fine. I rarely if ever get dropped.

Any insight on that, and if its a similar process for a TP Link?

Thanks to everyone/anyone in advance that responds.

Most modern routers have a dmz setup and if it does then you can just follow the instructions til you get to the port forwarding part and stop. Putting your PS3s ip address in the dmz should do the trick.

It should work as long as you enable uPnP on both the router and the PS3. I have not manually entered any specific forwarded ports for the PS3 nor have I placed it in the DMZ and it works.
