Trading a DS for a DS Lite ???

My son has informed me that the L button on his DS no longer works & that the hindge on 1 side is broken & he wants to trade it in for a DS Lite. Here are my questions:

1. Should we wait until after Christmas, will there be better deals for trading in?

2. Will they penalize him because of the crack & the L button not working?

3. Which store is the best to trade it in at?

Thanks for your help.

Since it is slightly damaged if say your best bet would be to sell it on ebay and list as being for parts/easy repair. I know the stores around here test the system before accepting tradeins, not sure about around your area.

Some people still would buy it for a fair amount of money for a possible replacement screen.

If I were you I would try to trade it into Gamestop/EB. 95% of the time all they'll do is see if the DS will turn on. At least, that's what they did when I traded in my GBA SP

First of all, scamming a store like that is shitty.

Secondly, they take down your information. If the product fails you have to be liable for it up to a certain point I'm sure. No?

They finger print and take your driver's license ID down for any system trade-in. I would not advice trading broken stuff in even if they dont test it right away.

You're likely to get just as much on ebay as you would trading it in anyways. The last time I was in Gamestop the guy told me I'd only get 30 bucks for it.

I wouldn't know if they follow up on it, my GBA worked fine, only reason I traded it was to get credit towards a game I wanted.

I don't think they would do anything about it though if someone returns it and says it doesn't work.

And acting like a saint on a message board means nothing, somehow I doubt you're the saint you are trying to appear to be in real life.

When I traded in my DS, they never even turned it on, let alone check all the buttons of the touch screen. My L button wasn't broken, but it wasn't particularly responsive, so if they ever do call me I'm going to call BS on them.
