Transfer Data from Xbox to Xbox

micmonmel

CAGiversary!
Hey, guys-- I am hopeful that you can help me with something... My 11 yo received a Xbox360 arcade last year for Christmas (from his older brother, a used machine). This year, I am getting him a new 4gb Xbox 360.

The older one has memory cards. what is the best/easiest/least expensive (as in no cost) way to get his games and profiles from the old one to the new one?

I've done some research on it-- but to be honest it's a little confusing to me. (I am not a gamer by any means, but I am relatively computer savy.)

Thought this would be a great place to ask for some advice...

Thanks in advance!!!

getting a transfer cable from your local store, it's about $19.99. This is the best and easiest way to transfer all data from one HDD to another. You could also use a USB stick after it's xbox ready and transfer content that way, however some data will not transfer. which iirc are things pre-bundled w/your HDD as well as guest gamer profile save progress.

- My bad, i forget that the slim's 4GB memory is not actually a HDD. Glad your lidless eye keeps watch like I'm a ring bearer. :)

He'd have to use a USB flash drive and transfer all the content from the memory cards, internal flash memory or both to the USB flash drive. Then he'd pull the content from the USB flash drive to the Slim.

You can recover his gamertag on the new xbox very easily.

You probably want to then do a license transfer.

Then you can just redownload all his DLC and games.

For saved games.... The new 360s don't have a memory card slot, hmmm... if you have the newest dash you should be able to transfer from memory card to USB stick. Otherwise you have to use internal memory or a friends 360 hardrive as an intermediate.
