I am wondering how to trasnfer to DLC/PSN games to a new PS3? Do I use the backup utility function? Do I de-activate my PSN account in my old PS3 and type in my PSN account s/n on the new PS3? Do I have to call Sony for them to allow me to re-download all the DLC/PSN games?

Searched through the net and couldn't find any concrete answer to this. Help is much appreaciated. Thanks.

you cant but you go into the psn store and go into view downloads ( its in the uper right hand corner of the screen next to the shopping cart) and you can redownload everything there for free. i just had to do that myself its going to take you a while and then after that you get to dl the updates for all your games that need them yay!!!!

Create a new user on the new PS3. Go to "Sign up for the Playstation Network" on the XMB. Select "Existing User". Enter in your old PSN email and password. Go to Playsation Store. Go to "View Downloads". Re-download your stuff. Voila :D

If your old PS3 works, I'd also recommend deactivating the PSN account on the old one (not just deleting the user -- they're different things). Go to "Account Management" in the XMB, and "Deactivate PSN Account" (going off the top of my head here, might not be called exactly that). Well, assuming you don't want to still be able to play/purchase stuff with your original PS3.

Sony allows you to activate your PSN account on up to 5 Playstations, so transitions from one PS3 are simple (deactivating the account on the old PS3 means that it won't take up one of the 5 slots).

If the old PS3 is working, the latest firmware update includes an utility to transfer everything from one console to the other, you jsut need to network them. This is by far the easiest, safest and quickest way to do it. I think it even deactivates your account on the old machine (not 100% sure about this). This will also transfer your saves, settings, videos and other content

The other option is to simply re-download everything, but obviously that takes a lot of time.

I did what erequena said. I connected my old and new PS3s to each other with a ethernet cable and did a data transfer between them. You have to be able to see what each PS3 screen says, so you need to have both connected to the tv as well so you can go through the menus and tell which one is the transfer origin and which one is receiving the data. Also you should deactivate the old PS3. It took mine over an hour to finish my 60gb transfer to my new 500gb slim system.

Thanks for all the replies, unfortunately I won't have my old PS3 (trading it in) so I backup everything on an external harddrive already and I think I will deactivate the PSN account in my old PS3. The only bad thing is that I will lose my copy protected game save: Kill Zone 2, Saboteur, and R6V2 :bomb:.

If you backup you won't be able to transfer anything to the new PS3 (game related at least, with the exception of most saves), you'll actually need to re-download everything, so don't even waste your time doing the backup. but DO make sure you deactivate any accounts (main and game sharing) on the old PS3 so that you can activate them on the new one

I think at one time Sony gave away "FLOW" but it won't appear in one's download list. They explicitly said if you delete it from the PS3 then you have to purchase it in order to re-download it.

So if you buy a new PS3, you won't be able to move this game over to the new machine? I don't think the backup method would work. Will the new 'transfer utility' do the trick?

Another question I have is that I already backup my ps3, when I get my new ps3 can I just press the transfer application on the backup utility and my game saves will transfer (excluding the copy protected game saves)?

I did the data transfer from my old 60gb to my new slim and flow is on my new system under where it has the game disc name you have in the system on the menu. Its under "unknown titles".

I also noticed that before I decided to just do the data transfer, I tried to save all my game saves on a USB flash drive and some games were copyrighted and would not save. I then did the data transfer and everything went over to my new system. It seems this is the way to get everything over easily. This is, of course, if you still have your old system and it works. (You didnt trade it in to get the new one yet)
