I'm hoping its just Alien mode as stated and hopefully he'll change once he "scans" earth for a cover vehicle.
Those are cool but I dont like how "busy" they are compared to the original Transformers.
I actually like that they look more complicated than Gen. 1 If these aren't dumbed down, they will definately not be for the little ones. :D

I'm torn. The new stuff is interesting, though it just looks like the new styles of japanese mechs.

Let's wait and see how they transform.

WTF!!?!?!?!?!?

I remembered on Sunday when I was at my brother's house, his son had a "Starscream" from one of the current tv series that was a very complicated JET to transform. The concepts are going to require a degree in engineering if they don't make it easier for everyone. Prime needs a body paint fix QUICK and go to his original colors.

These new character models/toy concepts are FrIgGiN' aWeSoMe!!! Can you imagine how rad it would be to cosplay as optimus prime now???

I think Optimus should have stayed closer to the 'classic' look but other than that the transformers look awesome. Incinerator is the best of the bunch.

Incinerator is now Blackout in the movie. Also, the Hasbro COO or somebody like that just updated and said the toy pics that have leaked aren't the final ones. Which hopefully means Starscream will look like Starscream. :)

I wonder if, since Dane Cook is in the movie, they'll make a Transformer for him. Idiot comic suddenly morphs into popular idiot comic, and back again in 2-3 years... like seriously why is he going to be in it? What is he going to contribute? Go Optimus Prime, go! You rock, Optimus Prime! Can I get a hell yeah?!

Crazy...

Wow, what did Dane Cook do to you? I would rather Dane Cook be in the Movie then say Linsday Lohan or Jessica Alba.

The toys look kinda Todd Mcfarlaneish.

I thought they look like McFarlane toys too. They remind me of the Techno/Manga Spawn toys I own. Still they look pretty cool. I'm glad they look so realistic in vechicle mode. I was tired of the Alienators being the only real looking transformers.

What is this, a presidential election? :D There are enough actors in the world where we don't really need to settle for a lesser of two evils. But oh well.

It's not that he did anything to me, I'm just ridiculously curious as to what this guy is doing in a movie like this, and at the same time fearful that he may single-handedly destroy it just by his participation in it.

I guess I can agree with that. Well Before I got to sleep I will pray for you that they change the script so that Dane enters a Decepticon vehicle and then transforms, killing Danes character. ALA Clerks animated series. I still think the guys is funny.

Does anyone know where to see the Megatron pic that was pulled off AICN today? Damn, I always miss out on the new shit....

Hey everyone! Welcome to Transformers 101, the class where we can hopefully educate Michael Bay and Hasbro's COO Brian Goldner about the Transformers. First, let's start with today's lesson which focuses on an ad campaign that is very similar to a popular ad campaign during the 1980s in America. Okay, is everyone paying attention? Let's begin today's lesson ... make sure you scroll all the way down to complete today's lesson...

Wtf is standard and battle mode? It's fucking megatron, does he need a mode for sitting around and shooting the shit with the other decepticons? He should always be in battle mode motherfuckers.

I just don't get it, why are they trying to "Reinvent" this show? I guess Bay has been watching too much of the current crap they are showing on cartoon network :( Perhaps someone should donate to him the G1 DVD's for awhile. ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Personal message from Don Murphy:

Hey there Stooges---

There’s a lot of good stuff to tell you about showing SHOOT-EM-UP to the studio and them loving it… about another project that looks like it will happen… about something I so desperately wanted to do in 2002 but got wronged by a friend, and now the karma turns. Like I say there is a lot of good stuff to tell you.

But let’s talk Transformers shall we? There has been a lot of leaks of photos, scripts, tidbits both true and false. Roberto and Alex spoke on a webcast this week. Lots of things coming out which are costing people their jobs. Good stuff, bad stuff.

But you know what? You haven’t actually SEEN a damn thing yet.

Now the negative ninnies out there, the people like Bowspearer who just live in a cesspool of hatred, will say “We’ve seen enough. This isn’t my Transformers.” To those people who are so old school and stuck in their ways I say the following- Go away. Seriously. We don’t need you here. You hate and you haven’t SEEN a damn thing yet.

Oh sure, Prime doesn’t look EXACTLY like he did in the cartoon. The Autobots are only five. The Decepticons don’t have Soundwave. There are complaints out the wazoo. Well you know what?

I have complaints too. There are things I wanted in this film which are not going to be in there. But I know what some of you know- filmmaking is not a democracy. Hell, Adam Goodman is in charge of production at Dreamworks. He’s the guy who BOUGHT this film. He is working day and night to get this ready for July 07. There are things I know he wishes were in the film. But they aren’t. You’ve talked online here to Brian Goldner. He owns the property but everything is not EXACTLY as he wishes. Tom Desanto is the most devoted producer out there- I know there are things he wishes were in there. You saw that Alex and Bob didn’t get everything they wanted. And Michael Bay, who spends 16 hour days shooting this mega-film? Michael Bay who sets up every shot himself and oversees to the point of operating the camera at times? He’s made a zillion compromises to get a great film he can be happy with.

No, filmmaking is a series of happy accidents. When Tom and I shopped this project around every studio passed, including Dreamworks and Paramount. When those two studios and others came around, we ended up with Dreamworks because Steven Spielberg and Adam Goodman (and creative VPS John Fox and Marc Haimes) knew that this was a BIG cool idea for a franchise. Hell, those guys wanted it in cinemas THIS summer. It’s now 07 because everyone wants to get it right. No one is trying to make anything but a great film here.

When I say you haven’t SEEN anything, think about it. You’ve seen a toy mold. A truck still. A Bumblebee model with a guy underneath it.

You haven’t SEEN Bumblebee transform. You haven’t SEEN Optimus walk or Megatron awaken. You’ve seen sketches, designs and stills. Most of you get it when Brian Goldner says “We are doing something here that has never been done.” He’s right. The technology is there to make a LIVE ACTION Transformers film. To make several of them. But this is not a cartoon. There are cartoons already. Hasbro is making more. This is something new and different. LIVE ACTION robots.

So you negative ninnies- I’d like you to give us a break. And if you don’t, I’d like you to go away for a while. Seriously. Come back in six months. Wait until you SEE something that Michael and ILM and all of us have done. Not some leaked bullshit from some coward. Wait till you SEE the magic that I believe will be Transformers the Live Action Movie. Then if you don’t like what you see, hate away. Till then, I challenge you to be a grown up and reserve judgment. Even the majority who seem to like what you see have a right to hate later on.

We’re trying to do this right- to appeal to the fans and the rest of the world. Cullen is hired. Welker is going through the process. Other things are being reviewed and considered.

There will always be someone who wants to hate. That’s so easy.

But I challenge the haters to wait until they SEE a Transformer in Live Action.

And the rest of you, most of you, thanks for the many suggestions and kind words. It continues to be a surprising and fun ride.

Hang Tight Stooges, Hang Tight.

Thanks for that post E-Z-B, it does make me feel better. I do have an open mind about the whole thing and have so far been happy about everything I've heard/seen. Megatron though...ugh...I'm just hoping that was some sketch that won't make it into the film or atlease let that be his pre-earth form.

That's an odd sell from Murphy. Honestly, if you're making what you believe to be good film, why give a shit what anybody thinks? I'm not defending the haters, because most of them will end up seeing the film anyway, so why bother getting defensive? The guy needs to lighten up and concentrate on doing his thing instead of trying to appeal/repeal the criticism (especially crap about a movie that hasn't even been released), no matter how unfounded it is.
Don Murphy actually made some sense. You guys are all pathetic.
I'm prone to disagree. If they wanted to reinvent everything, why not just make a movie under another guise or license? It's not as if form-changing robots from outer space is the intellectual domain of the Transformers alone. I'm sure that many of you could list 1-2 dozen other similarly themes shows/toy lines from the past two decades alone (let alone the Anime prior to that).

They're offering to serve up nostalgia; if they weren't, then they lose the purpose for buying the license to begin with. So, yes, I didn't expect perfection, but I also didn't expect them to be completely reinvented. I can't say I look forward to seeing this movie, and while what Michael Bay & co. are doing hasn't ruined my life or brought me outrage, I will make this one, concise, opinionated remark:

This movie, based upon what I've seen thus far, looks like shit, doesn't look like "The Transformers," and will not be something I pay $9 at the theater for, nor any money on secondary properties (figures, games, t-shirts, flamethrowers, etc.).

EDIT: gunm, my guess is that he saw the cultural capital the internet has on *making* a movie a big hit (SOAP), and fears that they may have just as much capital in ruining a movie prior to release as well. Consequently, he's gonna be defensive about it.

If you've ever watched Beast Wars from the first episode to the last, you'd realize that show was much, much better than G1 ever was. And the movie is going to look more like Beast Wars than G1 which I don't mind at all for the above reason.

Like Don Murphy said, if I wanted to watch a replica of the 80s cartoons, I simply pop in a dvd from Season 1, Volume 1. If it weren't for Don and Bay, Transformers would fall further into obscurity - I'm happy that a flick on the bigscreen is coming our way no matter how different it is from G1.

I totally agree with you. As much as I love G1, Beast Wars by far is Superior.

From Michael Bay's website:

I just barely caught Michael in between takes. Among the things he mentioned:

1- They will be releasing more teaser posters in the coming months.

2- Paramount made studies and concluded that the TF "ANNOUNCEMENT" was the 2nd highest rated "teaser" this summer.

3.- They just finished shooting a lot of Pentagon interiors on a soundstage in scenes that involved many Chiefs of staff in their huge war room.

4.- Shia just was recently suspended over the edge of a 20 story building in a very dynamic and intense scene.

5.- The average transformation time from normal mode to alt mode and vice versa is about 3 to 4 seconds.

6.- The leaked pictures are legit (although a somewhat early rendering).

7.- Filming of massive chase scenes will begin in the following weeks.

8.- The CGI transformations by ILM are looking wicked and nastier every single day.

9.- Part 1 will be about why the transformers came to earth.

10.- This movie will be a new start for the live action franchise that will not be based on any particular TF TV series and/or comic book.

BEAST WARS was ok.

Megatron was more cunning and the show employed a strong sense of humor throughout Beast Wars. If you just watched a show here and there, you need to go back and watch the entirety. Deepdiscountdvd still has all three seasons - I highly recommend picking them up before they fall into G1's fate:

Makes sense to me. I'd have to say I agree with your disagreement as well: the Transformers should be more about staying true to what the fans expect than any one person's "creative license". I can only assume that it's just more Hollywood bullshit where the suits that control the purse-strings want the movie to appeal to a broader audience than it would otherwise realistically attract.

EEEK season 1 is still 50 bucks :(

Beast Wars is awesome and as a whole is better than the original Transformers cartoon, but you can't sit there and tell me that the original Transformers didn't look way more bad ass.

These "Movie" robot's look like shit. It's like the "Xtreme" Transformers. I was hoping they would stay truer to the original.

I'm sure I'll see the movie and enjoy, but I know for a fact I would have loved to see the movie envisioned with the robots I grew up watching.
