I'll update as more info becomes available.

Hmmm.....interesting.... Maybe they'll show deleted scenes, like what really happened to Sparkplug.

I realy hope those deleated scenes aren't just pointless stuff... hopefully, it's some good bits and pieces in there.

Ah... who am I kidding, I'll probably buy this no matter what.:p

This movies is so bad, I kinda like it... even the cursing... could do without all the deaths though a total contrast from the series

A shame to see how the great Orson Welles was reduced to this for his final role... from Citizen Kane... to Transformers

Hey, it could be worse, A few hours of voice work in exhange for a paycheck >> acting in live action Street Fighter Movie.

Prediction is that one of these "Deleted scenes" will be a trailer for the live action Michael Bay Remake

YOU GOT THE TOUCH!

YOU GOT THE POWERRR!

I was really hoping for another edition of this movie to come out, thank god I held off until now. Can't wait til November.

I guess you like the newer Transformers: Poke'gon Squad series types?

This movie kicks ass. Maybe because I grew up with it and saw it in the theater. Don't know, it's cheesy, but still better than 99% of the crap out now.

Time to sell my OOP DVD now on Ebay before the price crashes.

Thanks OP! I'll definitely get this as soon as it comes out :D

I wish I had. This will be the fourth time I've bought it.

1) VHS
2) Laserdisk
3) First DVD release
4) Double-dip

But damn, that movie brings back memories.

)-(

hard to beleive it's been 20 years! but this movie still kicks a ton of ass.

I doubt there'll be a trailer for the live action movie though seeing as they've hardly started fliming but I wouldn't be suprised if they showed a teaser that hinted at the look of the new CG bodies.

I also grew up with the older series (have ENTIRE run on dvd too) but the tone of the movie is different, it is a guilty plasure for me noetheless... I never once stated I hated the movie

The merits (or lack thereof) of this movie don't have anything to do with current Transformers or shows, except from the nostalgia viewpoint. I don't understand why liking (or disliking) one has to be dependent on the other.

The movie, warts and all, represented a very special moment. The TV show and the first generation toy were at their peak. The movie had production values the show could only dream of, and contained genuinely shocking moments (killing, cursing, the death of Optimus Prime, etc.) And it marked you as a true fan/geek (take your pick).

The movie is both exhilarating and stupid. It will never be a good movie, but it introduced ideas that are now -- 20 years later -- still essential parts of the Transformers mythos. I know I'm not the only one with a giant plastic Unicron in the closet. How many movies can claim something like that?

I don't have a copy now, and I won't be buying it. I'll always remember sitting alone in the theatre, glad I went to see it. I don't need the DVD to remember that.

I think I read on IGN FIlmforce or some other TF site that there ought to be a teaser already this July 4th.
Wow, has it really been 20 years?? G1 is the only transformers show I watched, and collected.
It's a shame - you missed out on Beast Wars, a far superior show that occurs centuries after G1 (including some tie-ins). YOu can get seasons 1-3 now on DDD's sale if you're interested.

I can't wait for this DVD, since I've never seen the movie.
I hope that the G1 series is rereleased on DVD because of the movie, since I only have season 2.2

I was just about to post this... Sony has to have plans on the works for the series.

G1 was released on dvd like 2 years ago, ridiculously hard to find now. It'd be nice to see them alteast make a reprint for those of us who missed it or bits of it but I'm not holding my breath since it was so recent.

The Movie is going to have elements related to G1 but it's going to be very different from the actual materials I've been privlaged to see as part of my job. Some people are going to be pissed and some will be excited. I'm hoping they're smart about how they reveal the new designs because it could mean the differenace between being universally hated by G1 purists and and being moderatly tolerated enough to atleast go see the movie.

The Japanese Transformer shows are a lot less serious than the G1 movie or Beast Wars. The japanese have never been as protective of their continuity as we have, each series coming and going with little regard for the privious story elements and often delving into goofy humor with fruity sidekicks, kids, minor potty humor and a lot of the things that G1 might have touched the edge of in terms of corniness but that they went into full steam. All of that translates into the translated new shows we've been getting since the end of Beast wars. Beast Machines was okay but nothing beats Beast Wars for it's connection to the original series and the movie's tone.

Can't wait for this one to be out. Even though I didn't really like all those deaths in it. But it was a decent movie for its time.

They will release the box sets... Sony likes money, fans are still wanting these, and this time the fans that missed out on some sets (like me and many others) will snatch these up ASAP so this dosen't ever happen again (i.e Sony loses the rights, the sets go OOP, I can't finish my G1 collection).

I know I'm hoping for a reprint of the original series... I only picked up season 1 the first time around and just couldn't afford the rest. But if they re-release them then I'm game.

about the movie
At least someone else feels the way I did about this movie... what is funny about the movie dvd is chapter 11 (where the infamous curse word takes place) is titled "curse word"

"...oh shit, what are we gonna do now?"

Luckily I got all the dvd sets from DDD ... most likely during oine of the 20% off sales like is going on now

im sure glad that I picked up all seasons of the transformers G1 series before they went poof...unfortuntily i never completed my gi joe series past season 1 volume 1 :(

same to be said about beast wars, only picked up season 3 and beast machines.

Such a great movie, I have watched it quite a few times and every time I enjoy it. Yet still I never bought the DVD, I may just get this one, thanks op.

Weird Al had a song on the soundtrack, a DEVO style parody called "Dare to be Stupid." Great song. I'll buy this, never having seen it. Just to hear the song I've heard a hundred times.
"Nobody calls Soundwave uncharismatic"
wrong....Its "Nobody calls Soundwave unchrasimatic" and thats why it is funny.

As a matter of fact, while browsing DDD.com today I searched for Transformers The Movie and it came up for pre-order only, listed with a release date of November 2006. At the time I was like "WTF!", but now it makes sense.

wow! I loved this movie and g1 growing up and own this on VHS and season 1 on DVD. This brings back so many good memories of autobot vs. decepticon wars w/ the figures :) . I will def be picking this up :D

Once again, I'm going to promote Beast Wars:

Get the Beast Wars DVD sets, seasons 1-3. It's quality story writing, and has many links to the G1 series that the "purists" will love. This is my favorite TF series.

The earlier trailer with the footage of Ultra Magnus in his diaclone colors and Autobot City transforming is about all the deleted footage the movie has. Though recently the movie was released in the UK with some extra footage around the edges. I guess the movie was never made in true widescreen, but the aspect ration was slightly different than 4:3. I wonder if this version will incorporate that.

I agree with the you the first season of Beast Wars was great. It was really the first return of the Transformers after a long break. I snatched up all the first gen Beast Wars toys and still have them. They aren't worth much, but they were quality toys.

Yes, that's why I'm trying to encourage G1 fans to purchase the Beast Wars sets on the DDD 20% off sale while they can. Get them, dammit! :)

I got the entire set for $45 shipped. It's the Chinese collector edition, but rocks! Authentic release with both English and Chinese tracks, on/off Chinese subs and not to mention cool post cards! The only thing sucks is the packaging, taking out the discs is a pain. The tin box is cool though. Anyway, it's not a bad buy for those of you missed out the Rhino's relase (OOP now). P.S. I found out the rough meaning of Optimus Prime and Megatron's name in Chinese, heehee, it's quite funny and fun in a different way.

Updated with specs:

Didn't read the entire thread but will this version have the word "shit" that was previously only available in the Canadian version?

Huh? My version has that word in it, and I bought it in PA at suncoast.

I posted this in another topic , but it should belong in this thread.

I've never been much of a fan of the G1 TV Show, but I found the movie to be exceptionally good. It's nice to see it get a very good DVD release.
